Sunset House was perfect for our summer vacation with friends. The hosts are awesome and very welcoming. Location is perfect, short walk to the ferry and across from the Inn. Beautiful view of sunsets over the channel. Chebeague is a special place and we hope to return.
This is our second year in a row staying in this house and it is a great spot. The location couldnât be better and it is a comfortable layout with the five bedrooms and bathrooms. Everyone has their space
We had a great stay at the Sunset House during our daughterâs wedding weekend. The location was unbeatable, right across from the Inn, and the water views were stunning.
The Sunset House was a great place to stay for our big family. It also lives up
To its name with great sunset viewing from the front porch. Jami is a great, understanding and communicative host and we recommend The Sunset House for a true Chebeague Island experience.
Our family was there for a wedding at the Inn and this was a perfect location. Everything was wonderful we were all able to have our own rooms and bath. Perfect!
Jami was very helpful and quick to respond to questions! There was plenty of room for us all to have space and the island is so quaint it felt like really stepping back in time to how summers should be!
Sunset house was spectacular. Plenty of space for a large group and ideal location across the street from the Inn, golf course and a short walk to the ferry and beach! Highly recommend for anyone looking to come to Chebeague!
We loved the location of the house for our sonâs wedding at the Chebeague Inn. Highly recommend it if youâre just looking for some space for family near the venue. Itâs convenient.
From booking to check-out, we could not have asked for a better experience. The host was friendly and responsive from the start, offering information we didnât even know we needed. Warm, welcoming, accommodating, and the property was perfect. Highly recommend!
My daughter got married at the Chebeague island inn last week and we stayed at the sunset house for a week. It was wonderful!! Fantastic location and plenty of space for a large group. We had a lot of out of town family there for the wedding. Loved all the bathrooms off of almost every bedroom. Location can to be beat and the water views are amazing!! Sunsets great too!!
The Sunset House was perfect for our family vacation. Plenty of space, great deck to watch the sunset. Convenient location. Owners were very responsive.
The minor criticisms were that the refrigerator still had a lot of food in it, the countertops were very cluttered with stuff, the gas grill barely worked and was very dirty inside and we never found the advertised hot tub.
Great access to golf course and hotel area.
Jamie was able to rent us a golf cart to get around which I would highly suggest.
All in all would definitely recommend.
The location was absolutely perfect , the wedding was at the Inn. The house was as expected. It was comfortable and suited out group perfectly. My only real complaint is there was shade missing from bedroom and the cleaning fee was very high.
We stayed with a group of friends for a wedding at the Inn, which is right across the street. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable. We really wanted to use the large fire pit, but didn't have the opportunity due to weather. There were a couple small issues that probably only happened because we were the first guests of the season (no hot water upstairs when we arrived) but the host was very responsive and took care of everything promptly. Would definitely stay again!
We found the Sunset house very dusty and the bathrooms were not clean. The refrigerator was not wiped out and there was mold on the door seal. There was no space for renters to put their own food and minimal space in the freezer to use. We contacted the owner who wrote back that she would refund our cleaning fee but after reaching out twice in almost four weeks she has not responded or refunded the fee.
The location was fantastic! Views were amazing. It was wonderful to have so many bathrooms to accommodate our crew. Although the bedrooms were all clean and made up nicely, the kitchen was not clean at all. The trash was full, there was coffee in the coffee maker, and the fridge was full of food and smelled funny. We would stay again though.
Location was perfect for our wedding at the Chebeague Island Inn - couldnât have been better! Every bedroom has an appointed bathroom, making it easy for a group of friends to stay. Highly recommend!
The sunset house is a perfect island cottage. The hosts are incredibly helpful. The cottage is perfectly located with an incredible porch to view sunsets. We strongly recommend the sunset house.
The island is a peaceful retreat for those who enjoy quiet reflections or curling up with a good book in the hammock.
Facing west, the house embraces a panorama of coastal waters and the rolling fairways of the island's golf course. At the end of the day, relax on the deck and you'll appreciate why it's named Sunset House.
Sunset House is a family run business. Inside you will find unique mementos of retired Merchant Marine, Captain James KomLosy and our family's travels from around the world.
According to one source, the name Chebeague is Native American for "Cold Spring Water", while another says it means "Island of many Springs".
The island is one of the so-called 'Calendar Islands' of Casco Bay. Originally it was thought that there were 365 islands in the bay, but it is now discovered that there are 222. Click here to visit the Chebeague Historical Society.
In the 1920s the Sunset House was an annex of the Hillcrest Hotel, now the Chebeague Island Inn. The brass room numbers you will find on each guest room attest to the former days when nearly fifteen boarding houses, and three hotels entertained island guests!
By the late 1800s people began to visit Maine in a phenomenon sometimes known as the "rusticators" movement. Cottages, Rooming houses, and Inns were scattered around Casco Bay and serviced by steamboats from Portland where crowds of tourists from the industrial cities of New England could get back to nature for a few days or weeks.
Chebeague Island enjoys a long tradition of providing Island Hospitality. In the late 1800s, stone sloop captains (famous for supplying granite up and down the East Coast), began opening their homes to mainland visitors. The Sunset House honors the tradition with a model sloop in their sign (above).
