I had such a wonderful time I am thinking of doing again next year.It was peaceful and very relaxing.I had my puppy with me and she was very happy.I would recommend this rental to anyone. Thanks Traci and Janet also Patti
We were delighted to share the Quartermaster Cottage with two grandchildren while visiting the island for another granddaughterâs wedding. The historic house is spacious and well maintained. Though we scarcely had occasion to use it, the kitchen seemed to have anything one would need to prepare meals. The large front porch with plentiful seating and wonderful view was our favorite part of the house!
This was our 3rd stay at the house, and it never disappoints. The location is perfect for us visiting nearby family. We've stayed in summer and enjoyed the views from the large deck, and enjoyed this cozy winter stay utilizing the gas fireplace. The kitchen is well-equipped, beds are comfy, and lots of linens, towels and blankets are provided. Always easy and prompt communication with the host. Would stay again.
We werenât at the house too much as we were celebrating our daughterâs wedding. It was a nice place to come home to and get up in the morning and have coffee on the deck.
decided this year to get a place slightly bigger than where I live, on the island, for strawberry festival. Couldâve not chosen anything better! I love the Burton area. Just far enough away from the madness yet close enough to join the festival within 15 minutes. Everything about our stay was perfect! thank you!!
We really enjoyed the house and especially the outdoor space. Ver spacious with private space for all.
Our propery manager, Troy, was so helpful! Unfortunately we had record hot temps and no AC! Made sleeping difficult. Also, there was no coffee (fortunately I brought my own) and no body wash , shampoo/conditioner as is customary in these rentals. Would be a much better Fall/Spring/Winter stay.
Quartermaster Cottage on Vashon Island is a charming retreat with breathtaking views and cozy ambiance, making it perfect for our visit during my niece's wedding.
Positives:
The cottage exudes charm with its stunning views and relaxed atmosphere. The expansive deck provides a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the sun reflecting off the water. Comfortable amenities include comfy beds and a well-equipped kitchen. Convenient features like a full-size washer and dryer enhance longer stays. Troy, the host, is friendly and quick to respond to any communication.
Considerations:
Parking on the inclined driveway requires caution with rolling luggage.
As an older home, there are some minor inconveniences:
- Limited closet space for wedding attire
- The stand-up shower stall is compact
- Narrow and steep stairs lead to the second bedroom
- Upstairs rooms are warm, mitigated by a provided stand-up AC unit and fans
- Lack of smoke or carbon monoxide detectors in the home
Nearby Amenities:
The cottage is conveniently located just outside downtown Vashon, with a coffee stand and corner store within walking distance. Positive dining experiences at The Hardware Store and Casa Bonita restaurants. For shopping, The Pharmacy is a recommended souvenir shop, and Thriftway is convenient for groceries.
Overall Impression:
Quartermaster Cottage offers a lovely, cozy retreat with quaint charm despite typical older home challenges. It's a delightful getaway on scenic Vashon Island.
It was a beautiful older home with beautiful views and garden. Nice restaurants just a short drive away. Only one thing, they need to put more sheets for their Yahtzee game, lol. My family had a great time enjoying the views while bbqing and playing yartzee!
The house is very cute and comfortable, love that it combines the original vintage charm with modern amenities. Location is perfect. View is amazing. No complaints at all. Bed situation was better than in description- 2 queens, sofas, and twin with trundle-no bunkbeds. Will be coming back here in the future for sure!
We had a great time. Check-in was easy, and the location is amazing. The hosts were easy to communicate with and very accommodating. The cottage is cute, and clean with an amazing view.
The location is brilliant and island feel is everywhere. The house was very welcoming and cozy. Perfect for a winter time setting. We'll be back....
Thank you
11 days In beautiful home and loved every minute. Location and views spectacular. We really enjoyed friendly local people and restaurants. Our dog Cooper also gives it a PAWS UP.
It was a lovely home, large backyard right on the marina. Walking distance from an incredible coffee stand with morning pastries and a grocery store. The outside area has tons of seating options and a propane heater for the cold nights. Tons of parking! Master bedroom sleeps a bit warm even with a portable AC unit in the hall nearby & light switches were a hunt, but its an older styled house and had so much character. We enjoyed our stay!
The house suited our needs for location on the island. The large deck overlooking the harbor is great for relaxing, enjoying morning coffee, meals or evening cocktails. Easy check-in and communication with host.
Great views of the harbor from deck and home. Clean, comfortable, cozy home. Large deck with multiple sitting areas; enjoyed deck sitting area next to kitchen window, which was a little off of the road and very private.
Enjoyed taking walks in the neighborhoods and park: Governers Lane, Burton Acres Park, and Lavender Hill Farm neighborhood. Close to KVI Beach, Jensen Point, Point Robinson and other attractions.
Loved the large comfortable deck and fantastic views of water and marina! Perfect spot any time of day or night! The island has much to offer for all who love the water.
This is a beautiful old house with a huge deck for entertaining and looking out at Quartermaster harbor. Half the deck is covered, so even in the rain it's nice to hang out on. Plenty of chairs and even a propane heater! The house has only 2 bedrooms, but there are plenty of other places for people to sleep. Pull out couch, window seat big enough for a bed, and even a trundle bed under that. There was even a fold up bed in the closet we could have pulled out. The only inconveniences were that there was no bathroom upstairs, and that if it's a hot day, the upstairs bedroom is pretty hot. They provide a fan and there's a portable air-conditioner at the landing at the top of the stairs too. The house was equipped with everything you would need. Check in was easy. We just texted the owners when we got on the ferry and he arrived just a couple minutes after we arrived. We had a great stay!
When not on Vashon, we live in Houston, TX. Tracy works in the oil industry and I am retired from a career in high school counseling. We have two grown children, a son who lives in Scottsdale, AZ and a daughter that lives in Golden, CO. We lived in the Seattle area during my husband's career and fell in love with the Northwest. We vowed to come back and live there someday. During the search, we discovered Vashon Island and have never looked back. Vashon is an extra special place to live and visit!
The previous owner approached us one day and said, "I am selling my house would you want to buy it?" We jumped at the chance to be able to become the caretakers of this "Pink House" icon of Burton. You never get tired of the view from the huge deck and are so close to beaches for walking and trails for hiking. The house was built in the late 1890's. We have maintained the charm while providing all the comforts of home.
Vashon is only a 20 minute ferry ride from West Seattle and 15 minutes from Tacoma. Yet when you come to the island you feel hundreds of miles from a metropolitan area. Relax and read a book, walk the beaches, hike the many trails on the island to unwind from the busy city. The art, theatre and music scene is robust to say the least. You can enjoy a live musical performance, art show and even an opera all year round.
