My staff and I stayed at this lovely property during an event in the Summer. Its great for large groups. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms (which were a necessity). There is a washer/dryer, but it requires quarters. Be prepared to bring a few rolls.
My siblings and our kids rented the manor for a quick summer trip. There was plenty of space, the location was great and the house was really unique. We would book again.
The house was very clean and the bedrooms were spacious with plenty of bathrooms for a large family. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking meals in. The only thing that would have been helpful would have been providing bath towels or making it more clear in the listing that you needed to bring your own bath towels.
Large home just as described.
Nicely renovated. A few little oddities but made the home unique. Close to dunes and town. Nice hot tub and fire pit. Lots of spices in kitchen.
House worked out great for group of 18 people. We had two people unable to do the stairs and it worked out fine. Within an hour of all we wanted to do. Restaurant/Bar right behind the house with good food. Special care needed to be taken in house due to hardwood floors and some nice tables/antiques but everyone was happy to comply.
Historic House with lots of space near fantastic Silver Lake
Large house with plenty of gathering space and bedrooms for an entire family. Service and attentiveness of property managers quick and thorough. As a historic home, this property has its share of quirks that are important to know about to make sure it will work for your group.
With the flavor of an 1800s camp lodge, but all the amenities you could ask for, the Manor was a great choice for our trip to Michigan. We had several friends with us and used all eight of the bedrooms! Even then, the house was spacious enough that everyone was comfortable, and the kitchen was fully outfitted, as well! Definitely a return stay for our next trip!
This, being the second year that we held our family reunion at the manor, it was more like coming home again. I can't imagine a more relaxing property in which to enjoy family. Mary greeted me at checkin with the house keys and wished us a good week. Brian fixed a little problem with hot water to the upstairs bathrooms and made sure that we had outside water access for our big seafood boil late in the week. Other than that, they gave us our privacy. Just like last year, we had world cup soccer on the tv, card games and jigsaw puzzles in the front sun room, dirty ace games in the dining room when we weren't eating, beanbag toss and frizbee in the side yard. Air conditioning and wireless internet worked great. We enjoyed the nice new refrigerator in the kitchen and the second fridge on the lower level. We had no problems with the manor during the week and would consider yet another return trip in the future. Thanks Mary and Brian!
The trip was great. The house is perfect for a group, big or small. the house is set up for groups and well stocked. I love the house and grounds. I will make this a yearly trip. The weather could not have been better. We all had a great time, and cant wait till next year.
What a wonderful location for a family reunion! We enjoyed the Manor and found it perfect for our needs. The kitchen was stocked with all the dishes and utensils needed, the dining room was great for meals and large card games and the TV room had world cup soccer on constantly. The sun room was the prime meeting place for chats, reading, jigsaw puzzles and smaller card games. We found the bedrooms comfortable with each having its own character. We really appreciated the air conditioning as the temperature reached well into the 90's during the week, but the manor remained cool for sleeping. There was plenty of parking both in front of the manor and across Wilson Road in the mowed field. The manor sits on a lovely wooded area, perfect for kickball, whiffleball and soccer. It also served us well for our big seafood boil. The internet access was adequate and stable with the DSL modem needing to be rebooted 2 times during the week.
I do need to mention a very few things that might need improvement. The stairs to the laundry room and second refrigerator are treacherous and do not have a handrail. I think that a handrail would help tremendously. Secondly, there is no outside access to water. We found this inconvenient when trying to fill our seafood pots for the boil and for cleaning afterward. We were able to work around these very small issues however.
I took a survey late in the week, asking everyone if they would like to come back to the manor sometime in the future. Everyone agreed that this was a great place for quality family time and would be happy to return.
Brian and Mary were available to answer questions but never intrusive. They seemed pleased that we were having such a good time and asked us to visit them again in the future. We just might do that!
This was our fifth trip to The Manor and we love it more every time!
We have stayed at The Manor for several dune trips with large groups of people. There is more than enough room for our trucks, trailers and toys. As always, Brian and Mary are so nice and easy to work with. We will be back again :-).
Would definitely recommend for an extended family getaway. 8 bedrooms 4 full bathrooms and plenty of space. Extra fridge in back patio was great to hold drinks. Gas grill in the backyard is big enough to cook for the entire house at one time. The hot tub was a perfect way to end the night when we didn't start the campfire. With infared water heaters hot showers weren't a problem no matter how many were taken. Location was perfect Hop, skip, and a jump to Silver Lake. Can't wait to go back!!
This was our second, but not last, stay at the Manor. Brian & Mary are great owners and have taken care of us well. Our group is typically large and they have been so accommodating. We will be back for years to come.
Our memorial weekend group always seems to grow each year. We now have kids and we all have trucks and trailers so finding a place big enough to stay that can sleep all of us and have enough parking is becoming nearly impossible. The Manor was very nice and accommodating! We will be going back!
Earlier in the year we decided to have our wedding at the adjacent bar & grill, Val Du Lakes. So this was the perfect place to have as home base for our wedding party. Friends from across the country came to this beautiful small town in Michigan to meet up, play and enjoy some R & R the week of our wedding. The house was big enough for all our friends and all their luggage. We joked that it was our little sorority house for the week. We grilled on the cute deck, enjoyed local activities like the sand dunes and bike trails and explored nearby towns in the evenings for nice meals and during the days for spa treatments. We got ready together on wedding day and walked right across the street to the venue for the main event.
A week with best friends out in the country was such a special time. They've already asked when we can come back for a reunion.
I would absolutely recommend the Val Du Manor for family reunions, vacations with friends or just a getaway. We had about 12 pp staying there and that seemed to be just the right amount.
Brian and Mary could not have more accommodating. This is a wonderful hidden gem in a beautiful area of western Michigan.
We have been renting different locations for about 5 years and this one was the first that doesn't give accurate information in the rental site.
- Bar next door is very noisy on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nghts
- No air conditioning upstairs which is not suitable for sleeping when the temperature outside is 90 plus. We had to go purchase fans to make it somewhat better for sleeping.
- Does not mention you have to clean before leaving or you have to pay $75.00- Overall wasn't bad just need to be more aware of everything.
We had a party of 15 people, and it comfortably accommodated all of us.. with room to spare! The descriptions of the house perfectly matched the layout. The entire home was very nicely furnished, and the front yard allowed plenty of space for outdoor sports and lounging. Mary and Brian (owners) were kind and friendly! The bar next door was also great, with a live band and a fun atmosphere. Our entire vacation was amazing because all the attractions were only a couple miles away. The location was very ideal, and even though the bar was only 10 feet away.. there was still a lot of privacy. We would recommend this property to anyone, and we hope to rent again next summer =)

We enjoy meeting new people every summer from all over out beautiful country.
We purchased this property because it was adjacent to existing property that we already owned. The house was in disrepair and needed much love and attention. It was built in 1888 and was brought up to date in 1920 when they added on and installed indoor plumbing! It was then used as a boarding house. Eventually turned into a residence and the history was lost until 2009 when we purchased it and renovated her.
The original White pine hard wood floors that were installed in 1888. The amount of people that we can sleep and the number of vehicles that can be parked.
