We loved the cabin and the great location. Great hiking within walking distance. Perfect for a getaway. We had no complaints at all. We would love to return in the future.
Our yearly family camping trip was a little different this year⊠my brother in law had a stroke last year and could not camp. We rented this cabin so that they were in short distance of campground and could join the family !!! They loved being able to hear the stream right off the back porch and gave them the comforts they needed!!!
Beautiful cabin on a stream. The cabin was very clean. All of the appliances worked well. The Wi-Fi was awesome. This was a perfect getaway for a family weekend.
We enjoyed our stay here. It was a bit remote, but clean and quite. It took us 30mins to reach the main road, but a peaceful time away from our hectic Long Island lives. Thank you!
Our whole family camps at Black Mountain Campgroud every year. My husband and I die to surgeries no longer camp so we book this cabin as often as we can every year this time. It is PERFECT for us and we feel like home when we are here!!!
We always appreciate finding rented properties to be as or better as advertised, and this property checked all of the right boxes for us. If like us you enjoy the sound of a mountain stream to add to the experience, you will appreciate the sound and sights of a beautiful stream right at your doorstep. Access to the property was good and we were driving a 22 ft camper van. Property is located within a short drive to a couple of really beautiful waterfalls too. Nearby Burnsville is about a 20 minute drive from the cabin.....be sure to check out the great BBQ restaurant there..Pig and Grits....very good!
We love staying on South Toe River to be able to hike Mt Mitchell and it's surrounding trails. The cabin was easy to get into, it was great to put our feet in the creek after hours of hiking. The house was stocked with everything we needed and very comfortable for a great night of sleep. My only complaint (and it didn't stop us from having a great time) was the cleanliness. The floors looked as if they hadn't been swept in quite a bit and the bathroom counter needed to be wiped down before we unpacked. But since we were coming to hike and be outdoors... it wasn't much of an issue.
Greatly enjoyed our time there. There are only 2 suggestions I would make. First, there are 3 TV remotes and no instructions or channel guide so you have to guess what service is available. Second, the welcome letter seems to be focused on all the obligations of the renter. (Trash disposal, cleaning the cabin, etc.). Perhaps more helpful information about the area than the hand drawn maps would benefit renters not from the area. Overall a very nice place.
The property was in a beautiful area. Nice cabin but it could have been much cleaner. There were spider webs and dead bugs in window sills. There was a musky smell in the cabin. Like I said very nice place, just needed more cleaning!
We loved the location for fishing! The cabin is comfortable and it is easy to walk to hiking trails and fishing access points. It would have been five stars if it had been cleaner. Given the current COVID-19 conditions, I pay more attention to cleanliness, and we arrived to a table covered in crumbs and chip bits in the carpet. Not a huge deal under normal circumstances, but today, you want to know everything has been thoroughly sanitized between guests. Despite that, we probably would stay there again because the location was excellent.
Our cabin stay was Plan B for a guyâs winter camping trip. We switched to Plan B when we realized we would be camping in solid rain for most of our weekend.
The cabin was a perfect fit. The dads took the bedrooms. The sons âcampedâ in the living room. And sports streamed from the TV (football and soccer).
The cabin had everything we needed and more. The wrap around porch and the stream just off the porch were fan favorites.
Thank you for making a potential waterlogged trip into a memorable father/son weekend!
This is a nice cabin to have a get away and a peaceful stream by the back porch. The cabin was clean. The downside is the water only stays hot for max 5 minutes so it is a very limited hot water tank. You might end up taking a cold shower like me. You have to haul away your own trash despite paying a cleaning fee. There was no lighter.
The only negative thing I would report is that it was difficult opening the lock box to get the key. It was dark when we arrived, and we had trouble seeing the numbers on the combination. A light on the porch would have really helped! Otherwise, we found the cabin to be beautiful and clean, and it had everything we needed to make our stay very enjoyable and comfortable. We especially loved the fireplace, though the only firewood was outside and wet. We bought some at the local Walmart the next day, and we were good to go. Sitting on the porch, listening to the creek rushing over the rocks, was truly inspirational.
Arrived after dark, no porch light was left on. House had old musty smell. And after reading the house rules we learnt we had to take off the trash or pay extra for someone else to take it off. We where expected to wash the towels ,strip the beds and wipe down the cabinet top in the kitchen and bathroom. This was unexpected after having paid for cleaning services.
Good:
Great area, quiet/shady, stream just outside. Lots of hiking nearby.
Bad:
1) Dead mouse in a trap in the kitchen on arrival. Live mouse found in different trap next morning.
2) Non-working air conditioning. Fortunately, the highest the temperature in the cabin was about 76 because of the shade.
Disappointing
1) Mattress choices were very firm or worn out
2) Unmentioned in the listing was that trash was the renter's responsibility and the nearby dump dropoff was closed on Sunday. ($30 charge to leave the trash there)
3) Water heater small capacity (10 minute shower limit) but quick reheat.
4) Called owner on Friday morning, left message about A/C and mice. Got email after 5 hours that " it seems the exterminator forgot to pick up his traps on Wednesday" and "I will call for an A/C service for that cabin ASAP.". Did not hear anything else before we checked out on Sunday.
The cabin is okay. Itâs clean enough. Some outlets work. Some lights work. Some burners on the stove work. Itâs nice to have a washer and dryer. It is nice to have a nice working grill. Itâs great to be so close to fabulous hiking trails. And the cabin is right on a creek, which is beautiful.
Not much to say, really. The place was nice, comfortable and clean. I do have 2 small gripes, however: 1) the glass table in the living room is a shin killer. The table is too big, too low, and the glass sticks out too much. We had to move it into a corner so as to avoid it. 2) Wish the way to the river was cleared of brush and fixed up. You could easily make a stone walkway or wooden steps to the river, so kids could play on the rocks.
We have rented your cabin 5 times so you can tell is work for us. Location is great close to our family. We know what to bring and just move in. Our usual stay is about 10 days and prefer cabin over motels for longer stay. We will be Back
