This was our second stay, we love the location an privacy. The overlook is a fun spot for enjoy coffee and kids love the little âadventureâ walking up to it.
Nice cabin with all the necessities. Good private location nestled in the woods. It is also right next to Roaring Fork Falls. Local towns are a short driving distance away.
The rental smelled very musty. We could not get rid of the smell by opening windows. The unit should have a dehumidifier. We also found mouse droppings and brown stains in between sofa bedding in the closet, pictures attached. The rental needed a deep clean. There was a coat of dust on ceiling fan, picture attached. Grill was out of propane, had to use broiler to cook our hot dogs. We left the next day.
Sweet Spot was a perfect fall getaway for my husband and me. It is so close to so many hiking trails and the BRP. It's comfortable and our pooch enjoyed it too.
The property was perfect for our Dadâs birthday getaway. There are so many great hikes nearby, you really donât need to go far to enjoy the mountains.
This house was wonderful. Being right next to the South Toe River was relaxing and the house itself was very comfy. Kitchen was nicely stocked and it was a great place to be.
Location is two miles away (a short drive) from the Mt Mitchell trailhead. We were able to do the big hike to the summit as well as several smaller hikes to waterfalls and a swim in the river, all within easy driving distance. Little Switzerland was about 30 minutes away, and a nice afternoon diversion.
Our stay was great. The kitchen has all of the essentials and pretty nice cookware. The beds were comfy and we had WFI that worked perfectly. The driveway was super steep, lol! The dishwasher didnât work and there was a blow dryer that didnât work either. It was fine, however, we had the dishwasher fully loaded.
It was a great stay! I canât wait to come back!
Comfortable, no-frills but adequate. Nice to be able to hear the river. FYI, the entrance is challenging - steep driveway and steep steps to the door. This could be a problem for anyone with any mobility issues. We had an overhead light go out and the host/manager promptly sent someone to take care of it.
We enjoyed spending Thanksgiving at this mountain retreat. We loved being able to hear the river from inside the house and the gorgeous views from the windows. Even though it was cold, we made good use of the deck seating area and the upper deck. I recommend the easy hike to the gorgeous waterfall nearby. The very steep driveway could be tricky if you have multiple cars to park and more information on the fireplace/heating system would have been nice. The master suite and bedding was nice, but the mattresses and sheets in the other room could use an upgrade. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at âThe Sweet Spotâ and felt that it is a great place for the value.
We really liked the cottage and found the location and area great.
We really thought it would be a place we would like to return to! The cottage is perfect for us.
The two criticisms, it needs new bed in master desperately. Terrible mattress, old and stiff and creaky and the grill which looks like a full size in photos is so small it is not really usable.
The kitchen was well stocked as were towels.
Didn't supply but two rolls of TP.
Place was clean, airy, nice windows and outside
elevated patio was a treat! Replace the bed and grill and it is just perfect.
This house is in a good location for reaching amazing scenic views and access to fishing, golf, and a variety of waterfall hikes. The city of Marion is about 30 minutes down the mountain with good selection of grocery stores and restaurants.
The driveway is a very steep walk up to the house and so are the stairs to enter, so loading and unloading can be a challenge. The house has good space and a well-stocked kitchen. We did have to do some cleaning when we arrived, including changing the bed sheets. The owner did respond to this issue in a very positive manner.
The layout was nice, the area was nice, the water pressure was amazing, the beds were comfortable (especially the new one in master bedroom), check-in was easy, but the house gets very moist because of the altitude. Having the heat on helps to dry it out but there was visible mildew all along one of the baseboards in the smaller bedroom, that I had to clean. Mold and mildew grows very quickly in that environment. I think the owner does all that he can to make the house nice, but people with allergies and respiratory issues should keep that in mind when renting in the mountains. Also, not good for handicapped. Too steep and a set of stairs. Otherwise we really liked the house! I also think the owner is very reasonable and keeps the price very affordable, with all things in mind.
Great location, nice place, but a few minor issues
It's a great location, and everything is as advertised. The kitchen was very nicely equipped, down to coffee filters and trash bags (i.e., stuff I always forget to bring to a cabin). There were only two issues with the stay. First, the dishes and other things in the cabinet were often dirty. I'm guessing that this is because the property manager is counting on the residents to do the dishes without checking that they've been done properly. The second issue was an inability to reach the property manager. We had a power outage after a storm (it happens), and wanted to check with the manager to report the outage to the power company. We tried the number listed, but only got a "this voicemail inbox has not been set up" response. We never got a call back. It wasn't a huge issue since the power came back on three hours later, but it could have been an issue for a more pressing matter. Overall, great location, nice place, and a decent value, but a few details could be addressed to make it a great place to stay.
Bring nose plugs and don't expect much communication from the property manager.
The listing makes it appear this property is on the creek. It is actually across the road. Not a bad view but like thinking you're getting oceanfront and then you find that you are across the street.
The place smelled awful of mildew. My wife slept the first night with a corona mask to stop the stench. I discovered that one strong source of the smell was the nightstands. So I pulled out the drawers and put them in the laundry room which helped. We also burned candles and turned the fans up and opened the windows, which helpd but didn't solve the problem. And, who wants to have to do that on vacation.
There was a full load on sheets and towel left in the dryer. My wife had to fold and put it all away. She was not pleased.
The master bedroom door takes your full body weight to shove open and closed.
With all of these negatives, if the property manager, Gary, would have been more responsive and sympathetic, we probably wouldn't be as disgruntled. We're actually very easy going. We typically stay at La Quinta's, not the Ritz. We are not high-demand, but this fell short and Gary really dropped the ball on communication.
The house has a ton of potential. Just need to do a little updating, fix that door, address the smell and it really would be "Sweet Spot."
Sweet Spot was minutes from numerous hikes including the Mt Mitchell trail. The internet was among the best weâve had which enabled us to work while away. Weâd happily stay again.
This is the second time we stayed at this house. It is in a great location and I especially loved mornings on the deck, listening the river. We did some hiking and fishing, and of course went into Barnsville for the bbq at Pig & Grits, and shopping at Something Special and Monkey Business. We'll be back!
This place was almost ideal for our family of 6. I gave everything a 5, but I gave it a 4 overall, because:
1) Bathroom doors get stuck. A little bit of shaving the wood on the door frames should fix that.
2) Main door inside handle needs to be fixed. When we got there, it was taped on, but the tape came off. It needs to be fixed or replaced for good.
3) Driveway is slippery when wet. Car slipped when going down it in reverse. Also, shoes without good rubber soles will also slip. We had to take our shoes off and go up barefoot. Wooden steps up to the house also slippery. Solution: put a rubberized mat on one side of the driveway leading up to the house, and on the stairs.
Other than that, the house is nice and had everything we needed.
