Dear Andy, Thank you for your feedback. Our remodel was recently completed, and the odor you experienced may be related to the fresh paint and renovation work. Although we have aired out the property, some residual smell may remain for a few more days. Regarding the contract, we use the standard rental agreement provided through Airbnb and VRBO. Unfortunately, both platforms require us to have guests sign it. I will reach out to them to better understand why the agreement is so extensive. Regarding your concern about financial threats, our intention was never to make guests feel uncomfortable or pressured. Hawaii has strict environmental regulations regarding garbage disposal and illegal dumping, and we simply ask our guests to comply with those rules. The language in our agreement is intended to acknowledge that if fines or fees are imposed on us as a result of a guest’s actions, those costs may need to be passed on to the responsible guest. That said, we will review the wording to ensure it is clear and cannot be misinterpreted. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
