La casa di Marcello - panoramic house in the heart of Florence countryside

It is a simple and typical country house built at the top of a hill facing the village of Vinci: on the ground floor the big kitchen with the fire-place, the room to keep wheat and “salami”, the dining-room for very special occasions; on the first floor all the bed-rooms (for grand-parents, parents and four children). There was also the cellar with the big barrels of wine and the olive-oil.

The name of the property is the original name from the area surrounding that was called “Marcello”, the land around the house was and still is all cultivated with olive trees as well as a vineyard on the east side at the bottom of the hill; in front of the house there’s a “barn” to keep working tools, it housed the rabbits, the pigs and on the west side there was the hen-run.

The house has remained as it was except for the 2 bathrooms on first floor, also the heating of the house is as it used to be: the fire-place in the kitchen and a big wood stove upstairs to heat the bed-rooms

Can't wait to return!!

Beautiful house with the best views! Vinci & Vitolini look like a postcard. Laura is fantastic! Gave us good information about the house and area. Plenty of room for 8 people. Would definitely go back.

Beautiful views and great space

The views are amazing! The rooms are all spacious. While having a classic villa feel, the right modern updates have been made to make your stay more comfortable. The kitchen is well supplied. Make sure to get there while there is still plenty of light as finding the place is a little tricky the first time. Thanks to Laura for her hospitality and great dinner and wine tour recommendations, we really enjoyed them. Wonderful experience!

Amazing proprty, very friendly host

We had a wonderful stay. First the location: simply amazing, at the end of th world, a view that you only read about in books, and in the middle of an olive garden. Wow, this is what everyone needs for a vacation. When we arrived (early) Laura welcomed us. Communication was excellent and very clear. Super hostess! We had a wonderful stay, it is close to any ancient italien treasure like pisa, luca and florence, and of course o the Vinci village. Trains from empoli bring you everwhere you want. In short, THE PLACE TO BE. We really enjoyed it.

La casa di Marcello ist a nice place to stay. You drive up the hill, which olive trees are planted . The house is on the top of the hill, you can see the city of Vinci and landscape all around. The house has 4 bedrooms and 2 Bathrooms. A living room and a Kitchen. It is really good for family. We love to spend time in the Kitchen. It is huge and has lovely view of the Garden. As it was cold because of rain, a Fireplace in the Kitchen was really nice for being together during dinner. W

Fantastisch groot huis met prachtig uitzicht

Wij hebben heerlijke dagen gehad in dit enorm grote klassiek ingerichte Italiaanse huis met een prachtig grote tuin en olijfgaard. We waren onder de indruk van de grote slaapkamers met elk een waanzinnig mooi uitzicht over de heuvels en de olijfgaarden. Omdat het weer wat onbestendig was op sommige dagen, hebben we ook vaak gebruik gemaakt van de gezellige keuken met open haard. Laura is een fijne gastvrouw die ons veel tips heeft gegeven voor restaurants en plekken in de omgeving. We kunnen het huis van harte aanbevelen!

Hervorragende Lage für Ausflüge zu den Toskana- Highlights. Schöner Ausblick, gut ausgestattete Küche. Kleiner Wermutstropfen: keinerlei Mückenschutz an Fenstern und Türen. Für 5-6 Erwachsene perfekt!

les alentours sont merveilleux la propriétaire est sympa compréhensive et souriante les gens des environs sont très serviables même si la maison est un peu ancienne, son équipement dans l'ensemble est largement suffisant et le cadre fait tour pardonner seuls voisins indésirables : les moustiques ... très bel endroit qui nous a énormément plu. à retenir

Hermosas vistas y tranquilidad entre olivos

Hemos pasado 14 días fantásticos en la Casa de Marcelo. Una casa toscana muy amplia para los amigos y la familia. La ubicación cerca de Vinci y de Empoli, con todos los servicios necesarios. El acceso ha sido fácil para conectar con autopistas y carreteras para recorrer los pueblos de la región. Laura ha sido muy amable al recibirnos y al responder a nuestras preguntas. Magnificas puestas de sol en el olivar con magnificos vinos de Chianti.

Country House Elegant

So much to love about Laura's wonderful home. Beautiful rural location. The views were breathtaking, changing from the morning to evening sunset and beyond (distant lights and stars at night). Spacious kitchen; bedrooms large and comfortable, tasteful appointments. So much space allover! The outdoor patio space was great and the comfortable big living room area (with music by CD player) were all enjoyed throughout our stay. We were on the go each day and this location worked very well to explore Tuscany by train and by auto. Communication was always friendly and prompt. We have special memories of our time at La Casa di Marcello!

Great place for rest and lovely views

We stayed at the place for a week. The house is really old and secluded (great if you want to rest). It's at the end of the road surrounded by olive groves. You have total privacy there. The views are amazing. No wifi (which might be a plus for some). At the end of your stay you need to take the segregated rubish to a special recycle rubbish site near Empoli (a few kilometers away). We couldn't find it but with help of the owner, we finally did. The owner, Laura, was very nice and helpful. I recommend this place for those who want to rest on a hill surrounded by nature. This is exactly what we expected!

La dolce vita

Accueil très chaleureux de Laura qui a pris de nos nouvelles lors de notre séjour et nous avons correspondu lors de notre départ . Tout était parfait. Il ne manquait rien autant dans la cuisine, salle de bain, literie parfaite, chambres spacieuses. Une adresse à garder si nous devions revenir, ce que nous espérons. Merci Laura.

great stay

We had a wonderful holiday in the Casa di Marcello. The house is magnificently situated and has a very authentic feel about it. The rooms are very spacious, and it is well kept. The house is on the edge of a hill (far from neighbours and the street), so the children could play freely. The views from the house on Vinci and surroundings are stunning!! We made wonderful walks starting from the house. It is also in the centre of the important Tuscan cities, and close to Empoli, where we took the train to Firenze. We will definitely be back! A special thanks to Laura, our host. She is absolutely kind, warm and welcoming. She was always prepared to help or give advice in flawless English!

Under the Tuscan Moon

I really don't know where to begin. We stayed at La Casa Di Marcello from 10/4-10/11. First of all, Laura was the perfect host/owner. She met us in Vinci upon our arrival - we were a little late but she didn't mind. The property is located on a "bluff" that overlooks Vinci and Empoli and MUCH MORE of the Tuscan countryside. The property has endless views of rolling hills with grape vineyards and olive trees - picture perfect. You wake up every morning to the sound of church bells off in the distance - not loud but very comforting. From Laura's place we were able to take easy day trips to Empoli/Vinci, Siena, San Miniato, Cinque Terra and Florence. We didn't make it to San Gimignano but based on a lot of positive feedback I highly recommend making a trip there. Now for what's inside the house. There were 8 of us on vacation and La Casa Di Marcello had more than enough room to accommodate - 4 Bdrms/2 Baths upstairs and Full Kitchen, front room and "greeting" room/hallway downstairs. All the bedrooms were very spacious. Also, each bedroom had a wonderful view of either Vinci, Empoli and/or the Tuscan countryside. And lastly about Laura the owner - she is GREAT! Upon arrival and getting us settled into the house, Laura took the time to tell us about the house, her family and the surrounding area. She is genuine and wants your vacation to be something special. I actually called her 2x during our week there (not related to the house but asking about directions and how to handle an accident - a tourist actually hit my car while in San Miniato). Anyway, she answered the phone both times and graciously helped me out. Our group also did the Italian cooking lesson on our last night - I HIGHLY recommend it. Laura, Maria Grazia and Mikala guided us through a late afternoon/evening cooking lesson and the best Italian food we had during our stay. It was fun, everybody participated and there was great conversation during the whole time we were together. The best testimonial for La Casa Di Marcello is that everyone in our group said "we will be back". This place is truly special and would recommend it to anyone that wants to experience a vacation Under the Tuscan Sun.

The house exceeded my expectations

I booked this house as the pictures which Laura had put up for us to see really sold it to me. It was comfortable and spacious for the 10 of us, with plenty of cooking equipment and room at the table to sit and eat and play games late into the night. The setting was amazing with views across the countryside and over to the hills, with a lovely patio to sit out on as well as a hidden pergola type area on the edge of the olive grove.The rooms were light and airy and the beds comfortable.It was a great place to visit many historic sites and having a railway station a few kilometeres away made visiting Florence a dream.I am hoping that I can get another family get together organised so we can stay in Laura's lovely house again before too long. This was one of the most memorable holidays I have experienced for years. I keep looking at the photos on my mobile and they give me a wonderful warm feeling.

Charming villa with an amazing view

We had a wonderful stay at the Casa di Marcello. The view from the house is absolutely magnificent and the surroundings were beyond expectation. The house is located privately on a mountain top and all around the house are olive trees as far as the eye can see. It is so beautiful, very recreational, and at night the stars stand out clearly. The nearby village - Vinci - is very nice and (as all Italians) the people there are very friendly and welcoming. You can find good places to buy Italian specialities and good places to dine. The house is very cosy, well-equipped and all rooms have amazing views over the mountains. The house has comfortable beds and is well furnished which made our stay very pleasant. In short: We had everything we needed during our stay. The host Laura is a very sympathetic and trustworthy person who made sure we had the best vacation possible. We would love to come back to Casa di Marcello on another occasion.

Spacious house with wonderful views.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this comfortable and spacious house which is peacefully situated amid olive trees at the end of a private drive. It enjoys spectacular views in all directions. We found the accomodation well-equipped and ideal for our needs with a well-equipped kitchen and two bathrooms. It is a very easy drive from Pisa airport and well situated for easy access to the key sites in Tuscany such as Florence, Lucca, Siena, San Gimagnano etc. The owner was very welcoming on our arrival and we would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a holiday in this area.

Best place

Hi there, We just came back from 7 nights at Casa di Marcello. We are 10 people family, and the house was comfortable with a lot of space. The kitchen has large table that we all could sit around, there is a dish washer, washing machine, gas- everything that makes life easier. The bedrooms are very big! There is wide surface outside where you can eat or just drink your coffee and enjoy the beautiful view of the surrounds area. The house situated in a very quiet area, and defiantly gives you the feeling of a farm owner in Toscana. The house is close to Florence, Pisa, Lucca, and there is Vinci that is very close. It is a good base to tours in Toscana. If you want to enjoy in Toscana- go there, it's a good base! Enjoy there, its much recommended place! Oz

A lovely traditional house in a fantastic location

The house was well equipped, and we had everything we needed to sleep and feed seven of us in comfort. Laura met us in Vinci (once we'd found it!) and showed us the way to the house, which is a genuinely traditional farmhouse set among olive groves, with fantastic views in all directions. She was also an excellent guide to the local area. I'm not keen on driving abroad and you do need a car to enjoy the visit, though we took the train to Florence (best idea!) and the station (Empoli) was only a short drive away. We also visited Sam Gimignano, Certaldo, and the Chianti region. The house is a good base if you're flying to/from Pisa, which is only about an hour away by car. We booked a cookery lesson and all learned how to make pasta - it's not cheap, but the meal was delicious. Walking, which we enjoy, is a little limited from there, but we walked up the road (very quiet) to the next village (Vitolini) one morning to buy fresh home-made bread, which Laura had told us about, and we found a couple of woodland walks not far from the house. Vinci is a charming little place, and worth exploring, but don't expect to be able to shop there late in the evening, or find everything you need. Fortunately, there's a huge supermarket not far away in Empoli. The Leonardo museum is ok, but a bit heavy on his engineering achievements. We had a wonderful week, and this house is highly recommended.
