I had the best time reconnecting with nature and my friends during our stay. Although it's the farthest location from the ferry, it is a beautiful home to watch the bay, fish, kayak, dip in the water, chat, unplug, and be one with the people you came with. No wifi or amenities outside of the views and rustic furniture. First time to the San Juan Islands but definitely hope to make this a bi-annual event!
Although far from the ferry and from town (15 minute drive or 40 minute bike ride), it was the most spectacular view and a great "off-the-grid" vacation spot for a group of friends. Bring everything you'd need as there are little accoutrements but at least there's a grill!
This house was perfect for what we needed. Not having wifi and being secluded for a few days isn't too hard with the view from the house. Some things are a bit outdated but all in all it was great.
The house is in a great location. The house is a little dated- appliances and decor. The house is listed at a premium rate due to the location but lacks other amenities such as updated appliances, bedding and WiFi. Watching the wildlife was the large living rooms windows was a great way to start and end the day. The largest bedroom that states it sleeps 5 has no heating source available and is very cold at night.
Beach access, otters, eagles and friendly people all around. House is older but fit us well. Plenty of space to fit 6-8 people comfortably. Nice selection of towels and plenty of pillows and blankets.
Bring garage bags, foil or parchment paper if you are planning on being at the house and cooking.
The house is great--very clean, nicely furnished. The view is absolutely stunning. We are long-time visitors to Lopez Island so we know our way around. If you don't, this location may feel a bit isolated.
We came for a relaxing weekend to celebrate my husbands birthday. Loved the view from the house, the quiet neighborhood and beach. My only cons would be that the jacuzzi jets didnât work, the oven was very hard to get the heat right, and I spent 30 minutes trying to figure out the coffee maker. Overall we liked it and plan to come back with the family.
Location right on the bay was its redeeming quality. The views from the house were magnificent!
That being said, the house is not maintained. Although the kitchen and bathrooms were clean, some of the dishes and pots were not that clean. The slider was hard to move. The deck needed power washed. The dining table was sticky from the finish wearing down.
In spite of this, we had a great time. The beds were comfy. Enjoyed the view. Put a puzzle together. Had fun kayaking right off the beach.
My parter tripped and fell due to poor lighting out front and around the house, there were stains on bed sheets and dirty towels, thereâs stains on carpet and floors. Cabinets had dirt and dust and dishes smell bad carpets and comforters had tears and holes. It was freezing cold when we arrived and it took a while to warm up the place.
If you are comfortable with a low-cost home in exchange for cleaning the property yourself, then this is probably a good stay for you. During our stay, we awoke to a bat dive bombing us in our room on the 2nd morning of our stay. When requesting assistance, VACASA stated they needed photo evidence in order to consider reimbursement or providing assistance on the issue. Of course, we did not return to the property to provide photo evidence for their own property, as we were not willing to risk our safety for their unkept home. Currently disputing the charges for the property, as VACASA has been less than helpful in resolving the issue.
It's accurate to say that the whole purpose of staying in this home was the view. It was heavenly. It was so quiet there. The house was built in 1970 and has never been touched since. It had no garbage bag. The dishes weren't very well either. We'd stay there again, even if it was so dilapidated
We had a great short getaway and enjoyed sitting in the living room and outside watching otters, seals and boats pass by. This property is somewhat cheaper than some other comparable properties on Lopez and there is a reason, as indicated by many other reviewers. The home has generally not been updated much at all since it was built, so everything creaks and groans. For some strange reason, we found that most of the crockery had not been cleaned properly, so we had to clean it all off as we used it. The property management company were highly apologetic for this and offered to send somebody over to resolve it.
The view is amazing. BUT the whole house needs a thorough deep cleaning. How hard would it be to go to target and get a good full set of kitchenware (cookware, plates, silverware, knives). Every thing feels super outdated (rugs need to be replaced). Maybe if there was actually Windex available we would have cleaned the windows ourselves. With that said we had a fantastic time.
All about the view of Hunters Bay, with Orcas rising in the distance, and easy access to the water from the dock. We enjoyed kayaking around the bay and taking in the view from the deck (in camping chairs that we brought). The house itself is rustic and bare bones. A good structure, but with dated finishes and furniture, worn out and stained couches and chairs, a rusted and warped indoor card table used outdoors, etc. They need to replace ripped window and door screens throughout the house. Coffee pot had old coffee grounds in it when we arrived. No internet/wifi and spotty cell reception, so you will truly be unplugging! We enjoyed the stay and the house is basically as advertised, but has not been updated in the last couple decades.
Gorgeous view, but the house wasn't worth the price we paid. Kitchen cabinets were falling apart, goodwill chairs on the deck and no table!! The grill was rusted out. The flat screen had only a dvd player, and two of the few movies were scratched and un watchable. No internet by the way. Apparently the view and little beached is supposed to be enough for the inflated price. A lovely neighbor lent us a card table. Seriously so many lovely places on Lopez with views that also cost a pretty penny, why would you choose this place?
We were out by 9:30am, did not notice digital checkout until 1:45pm. Not cleaned: stove top, pull out cutting board, whole deck and rail. Bath heater lights not working. Lots of switches - could be labeled. Upper left bedroom very hot - could not find control, we turned off at breaker. Deck top rail rotting. Skylights and gutters filled with debris, could cause roof damage. Electrical outlet no cover plate exposes wires. All this said, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. These safety suggestions will prolong the viability of this unique place so we can come back in the future!
We loved the location. House lighting, was a bit of a mystery. Very Dim in Kitchen. After buying local Coffee, we were unable to find Coffee maker, found the Carafe though. The Khureg system does not work well with Fresh ground Coffee. Not clear why we would pay a cleaning fee and it still be recommended that Laundry be done should we have time. Home has Maintenance issues ? Some things were kinda unsettling, plug ins and lighting for sure...Great location but for about $1200 for 3 days, not sure is was the best bang for our buck. I received a TEX aprox "1 hour"after we arrived asking about our stay, etc. - "very odd..."
