This property worked well for us on our recent visit to Lopez Island. The beds were comfortable, the view was lovely and the setting was peaceful. The appliances were all in good working order and there was plenty of kitchen items, plus a full washer and dryer. The WiFi was stable.
It was not fancy but it was quite homey. We had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend this property to others.
The large sunny yard and beach access were amazing. House is a bit outdated with older mattresses. Extremely small TV. No BBQ grill or fire pit. These small things wonât keep us from coming back. Had a great time and would recommend. Just remember it is a beach cabin.
This home is very private with a glorious view of the bay. The title Mud Bay seemed kind of a put off, but we didn't experience any mud. It was hard not to spend a lot of time just watching the birds and the changing light on the bay. There are so many fascinating pictures and objects to admire. Our grandson loved looking at the music selections. All the appliances worked well and it was great to have a washer and drier. We'd like to come back some time in the future.
We loved our stay. The area is beautiful and quiet. Bald eagles, a buck, birds, herons, and more in the backyard. A seal once, an otter once too! I would stay again. A very nice casual place. We packed in more than we needed. It had a drip coffee, but we brought K-cups because we weren't sure.
Overall the house was clean and space was comfortable and relaxing. We would love to see 2 new queen beds a kettle (could not locate) and an iron
Would return!
This is a very comfortable two-bedroom home/cabin with an extremely-well-equipped kitchen. Very quiet and private feel to the property, as there's no neighbor on one side (faces a marshy bayland) and plenty of greenery separating this property from the neighboring house on the other side. Beautiful view of Mud Bay (which is well-named - the shoreline is too muddy and soft for wading or swimming), and plenty of birds in the bay and on the lawn. You'll never want to leave the deck!
My family and I stayed at 57 Mud Bay for four nights over the 4th of July this summer and really enjoyed our experience! My extended family has been coming up to Lopez since the 70s and have a cabin on the peninsula, so we know the island quite well. I can say without reservation that 57 Mud Bay is an authentic Lopez experience, with the stunning view, surrounding flora and fauna, and general vibe you'd expect from the San Juan's crown jewel. The house itself is very comfortable, with ample space for a family of four, a spacious deck, and an absolute plethora of reading material. I was even able to scrounge up some children's books for my 4yo to read before bedtime after we forgot hers at home.
Overall we loved it and would definitely stay again!
We loved the view and the location. Had a fun sibling gathering, with lots of hiking on Lopez. The house was not clean and expensive but we still enjoyed the island.
It was relaxing for the grown-ups and fun for the kids. The kids played on the 'beach' (muddy, clay-like) and loved it.
The property is right next to a wetland. We saw some wild life and tons of mosquitoes this year. I've got so many mosquitoe bites! We'll be more prepared for that next time.
Great property all around. Our family had a wonderful time.
Peaceful, private and quiet location on south end of Lopez, with lovely view of Mud Bay and marsh. Short, easy walk to water to launch our paddle boards. Kitchen well equipped for making our own meals, which was handy, given limited eating options on island . Beds were a bit small for two (small sized) people and not very comfortable. Older house in need of updating, but you are paying for the view, not luxury accommodations .
Just a marvelous house with a perfect view and easy walk down to the water! Such a wonderful way to enjoy the relaxation of Lopez Island. Especially loved cycling and seeing seals and even an orca at Shark Reef!
The house and deck have a beautiful view of the tranquil bay. The lawn extends to the beach so it was easy for us to launch our kayaks right there, and paddling northward gave us lots of seals and gorgeous scenery. When we arrived the house had not been cleaned yet; they thought we were coming the next day. When they arrived, they cleaned the house very quickly. The kitchen is very well-stocked but messy and disorganized. The whole house is very cluttered and packed with too much stuff, so it was hard to find space for our own things.
Positives : Great view. Quiet and peaceful.
Negatives: House is dated and very cluttered. Many dishes in cupboard weren't clean. Steps into house aren't the same height and can surprise the unaware person with the height of the last step. Fireplace is in the middle of the room and easy to trip over the base. The only TV in the house is about 19in.
The location is divine. As other folks have stated, the kitchen has all the utensils, implements you'll need. There is a charcoal barbecue on the deck and charcoal was available, which I did not see stated in the description. The house is simple and ideal for the summer when you can be outside, or perhaps good for a couple in the winter.
The place was filthy. We have photos to prove it
Management does not return calls.
The internet code they give in the printed brochure is useless.
No Cell phone reception.
Come prepared to clean and disinfect it yourself.
We booked this as our vacation getaway during Covid. Since Covid was still in affect most activities were not open.
The house had some issues that did affect our stay.
1. The internet was not working. We were told to just reset the device but it never worked. With no cell service we felt pretty isolated as we couldn't research where to go or what to do.
2. There were nats all over the kitchen and into the bathroom. As we stayed Nats appeared a over the sink and kitchen. We kept getting them in our drinks making the place feel dirty.
3. Bees! There were 3 hornet's nest just over the back sliding glass door. And bees covered the grass area! For someone like me who runs from the buzz sound I was tense outside.
4. The beds are super uncomfortable. Very squeaky and hard. One of the rooms even have pictures of people so you felt watched at night.
5. The washer and dryer were a nice touch but the washer had mold in it.
6. There are pictures of a beach on the property but there is no real beach to walk around when the tied comes in. Not like the pictures make it look.
7. Some of the cooking utensils were great but most were not clean and we needed to rewash before use. Really concerning during covid.
The view and the yard though are amazing! And even the main living are was nice. The trip wasn't a total loss cause just not what we were overall excepting.
We didn't end up staying the full time and opted to leave after two nights of our eight night stay.
My friends and I loved this cottage. Great views, great location, and very clean. Everything you could need in a kitchen and being right on the water was amazing!
