Lovely historic home in southern Litchfield County, CT, 1.5 hours from Manhattan and 2 hours from Brooklyn. Surrounded by woods and privately situated on dead end road. Many lakes nearby for summer swimming and Mohawk Ski Mountain 35 minutes away for winter skiing. Countless gorgeous hikes, top rated restaurants and markets, apple and berry picking, great bookstores, and charming towns all within minutes. Home lovingly decorated and lived in by family with child and dog.
This home is a fascinating blend of historic (built in 1796) and modern amenities with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, Wi-Fi also much appreciated. Spacious rooms all around, handy laundry on 1st floor. Surrounded by bright yellow spring blooms, peaceful & quiet at night. The porch was a pleasant spot to enjoy the many birds and other sounds of the neighborhood. The parking is at the end of the lot, so we found using the barely travelled road to be the safest way to get from the cars to the house. The 2-3 stone steps up and then down to cross the lawn were a little too risky for the older members of the family. Accessibility otherwise is fine and actually better than what one might expect in a two story home of this age. Note that if you require a mattress on the firmer side, negotiations may be needed among occupants. :-)Communications with the owner were great, we got super detailed instructions which were very helpful, and text messaging worked out great.Overall, this property fit our needs for space and flexibility to enjoy an extended Easter weekend with family.
This cottage was just what we needed while getting together to celebrate my grandmother's life. We loved spending time in the living room around the wood-burning stove - it was the perfect spot to chat and be together as a family. We all slept really well in the comfortable beds, and the whole cottage had a relaxed, cozy atmosphere & had everything we needed. If you need a comfortable, welcoming place for your family, I'd definitely recommend staying here.
