This is the perfect spot to get away. Rustic with some mid-century touches, this cottage is perched on a hillside overlooking Lake Michigan. Thereâs a pathway through the forest down to the water. Although I wouldnât venture too far off the path, there can be a decent amount of ticks in those types of areas.
The house itself has a nice layout that feels spacious, even when it has eight people! The kitchen, living room, dining room, and porch give you plenty of indoor area to move around through. And the yard is large and open, sporting a nice fire pit and charcoal grill. There is one decently-sized restroom with a shower located outside (itâs still completely enclosed, just only accessible from outside).
Overall this is a great spot for a family vacation! It easily fit eight people and provides some incredible views. Itâs definitely a little more rustic than some luxury lake houses, but entirely worth the trip and the price!
Wonderful old cabin! This beautiful cabin is like stepping back in time to a slower, quieter time.We loved it.Cabin is stocked with everything we needed. The beach is small due to some downed treeâs but useable.
We thoroughly enjoyed the peace and seclusion that this place. We enjoyed the sunset every evening, The cabin is cozy and provides a plenty of room and a useful kitchen. We loved screened-in back porch facing Lake Michigan. The owner was really easy to work with. We also loved and respected the history of this family's land and cabin.
We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly even though there was not much beach this year. Could still swim and play in the sand.
The cabin was very clean and had what we needed.
Would not be good for handicapped or older folks who want
to enjoy the beach as it is a pretty steep climb.
Perfect cabin for our kids and grandkids. Literally seemed like owner lived there and left everything for us. Authentic right down to kitchen door jamb markings of sons' childhood growth. Not sure why all VRBO rentals don't encourage starter amounts of tp, firewood, beer, etc. This place is exactly like the summer cottages back in the day, no cell reception, no TV, no wifi!!! ...loved it
This place had a beautiful view, nice amenities, and was a very clean cottage that accommodated our family perfectly! The kids had good outside space to play, we had campfires at night, and just enjoyed the space inside and out. We really appreciated the "little things" such as beach toys and chairs so we didn't have to pack them & cold beverages left in the fridge from previous renters per the owner's request. We've rented a lot of places in the area and I have to say this one was one of the most clean and well maintained places we've rented. We had a wonderful time on the lake and will definitely return again. Thanks so much!
My family and I stayed here just a few weeks ago and had an amazing time! Although some might call the cottage "rustic", it is, after all a cottage, and its owners have pretty much thought of everything in terms of outfitting and stocking it up. Clearly they've been doing this for awhile! Everything was very comfortable and we wanted for nothing. We spent our days on the beach and in the water, and our nights on the wonderful screened in porch. And it was so nice to have a fire pit behind the house rather than having to lug everything down to the beach! We had some fun poking around in town and visiting the local attractions, and we saw lots of wildlife. We highly recommend this listing and would be more than happy to book again!
We had a wonderful time at the cabin. It was exactly as described. there was plenty of room, plenty of parking. the screened in porch overlooking the lake was FANTASTIC.
The beach front is a little bit of a hike, (not horrible) but absolutely worth the walk. we spent a lot of time on the beach and loved the privacy.
The kitchen was wonderful with the TWO refrigerators and we were able to make and cook our breakfast and lunch with no problems. We also used the fire pit quite often.
we also had no problems with the bathroom/shower. everyone was able to get a shower when they needed with water conservation showers.
our only criticism would be the lack of cell service/internet (definitely not the cabins fault). in this day and age of being connected (and we own our own business) we found that a little (very little) frustrating. but you can get it in town and on the dunes so really we just accepted it as a vacation bonus!
its a wonderful cabin, the neighbors were very nice and we just loved our stay. We would stay again.
Cozy Home with plenty of privacy directly on Lake Michigan
My family of 6 enjoyed our week's vacation immensely at this 100 year old cottage which has been carefully adorned with shabby chic rustic antiquey appeal. Waking up to a flock of wild turkey passing on the acres of forest, preparing for a campfire while watching a herd of deer grazing on the neighbor's property, gazing up at the nightly sky where the city lights have been snuffed to reveal sparkly treasures beyond words and dozing off in bedroom 1 or the sun porch to the continuous sound of lapping waves - THIS, was my idea of a vacation!! We only experienced a small hiccup which was quickly and efficiently addressed by our dear host. We thank you, Kurt, for the wonderful experience and for sharing your home away from home with us. We wished we could have stayed longer.
My family of 6 spent 7 wonderful days in this quaint and charming cabin. We were slightly reluctant about not having cable or wifi, but ended up enjoying everything even more because we weren't buried in our phones or laptops. The cabin has such rich history every where you turn. The walls, the windows, the family height measurements on the wooden panes. I could just feel the family memories that this cabin created for the owners and the renters.
The cabin was well equipped with all kitchen needs. We cooked on the charcoal grill most every night and had bonfires after the sun went down. Speaking of the sunset...this property captured the most beautiful sunsets we have ever seen! We had amazing weather and spent several hours in the water and on the beach daily. We'd walk, wave jump and even used the knee boards that were provided by the owners along with tons of sand toys.
There was so much to do from puzzles, games, VHS movies, yes i said VHS. My young kids got a kick out of rewinding them. My favorite moments were sipping on my coffee early in the morning in the sunroom while listening to the waves on the Lake Michigan.
We truly had an amazing time at this property. We will most likely come back in a couple years. You can't beat the location, the charm and the hospitality of the Hoffnagle cabin!
My grandfather bought this cottage in the summer of 1941. Our next door neighbors to the north have been owners since 1939! This is a old-style cottage, with screened in porch, no air conditioning, no washer/dryer, no WiFi and no cable or satellite TV! We do have a small TV with DVD player for viewing videos. No live TV reception. We have several renters who have been renting for over 10 years--they tell us they keep coming back because the love the cottage, the beach, the woods and the proximity to Pentwater and Silver Lake.
