Quiet weekend retreat
We enjoyed the quiet comfort of this well-stocked home. The view of the lake is gorgeous, the kitchen complete with anything you might need to cook a meal, and the beds were comfortable. The location is quiet and private, and yet central to many of the attractions available along the lakeshore. We'll be back!
Such a mixed experience. Nice enough but somewhat neglected
The owner seems nice, and I hate writing a bad review, but I couldn’t ever recommend this place. I knew from the pictures that the house was somewhat dated, but if it had been well maintained I wouldn’t have cared. Bedspreads were way past their prime. Some things clean, others disgusting. The carpet had huge spill stains, the fan over the dining table was covered with black fur, the light fixture in the bathroom was covered with at least 1/4” of dust, mold was on the shower curtain and liner, and an odd fish sculpture, also in the bathroom, was filthy. It was so odd! Some spots looking clean, right next to something gross.
The place is filled with silk flowers and TONS of other nic-nacks, which is a bit strange, but most of those were clean, so it wasn’t too bad... just another oddity.
When we arrived, the refrigerator and freezer were already about 1/3 full of open jars and food containers. The pantry was at least 1/2 full. There was even a note telling us that one of the containers in the fridge was full of live worms for our fishing pleasure! Of our group of 5 adults, none of us were comfortable eating from open containers, left by strangers. We didn’t want to waste food... so we had to work around all of it, all week.
There is an ant problem, but “BONUS!” there were a variety of ant sprays in the cupboards. After we sprayed, we must have vacuumed up about a measuring cup of sugar ants. (Haha appropriate?) Obviously it must be a recurring problem.
The deck is aging badly, with warped boards, etc. The owner is trying to train a vine to grow up trellises that are in front of the support posts and railings. I suppose that’s to cover the decay. The problem is, the vines are obstructing your view! If you sit on the bedroom end of the deck, you can’t even see the lake.
Other exterior issues include the perennial garden that had weeds higher than the other plants, and the fact that the big oak tree that is the most obvious tree when looking out to the lake is diseased / dead, making the view less than great.
Other smaller, but irritating issues were the burnt out bulbs in almost every light fixture in every room, the lack of overhead lights in the newer part of the living room, the couches that you sunk way into when you sat on them, the absolute impossibility of taking a shower if the washing machine was on, etc.
Some things were nice. The kitchen is filled with all of the dishes, pots, pans and gadgets that you’d ever need.
I can’t find my sunglasses. They are in a hot pink case. We had fun driving around while it was cold and rainy.
Quiet family time
Loved the location of this perfect get away home. It was awesome that the kids were able to unplug and enjoy fishing, campfires and smores at the end of long days exploring the dunes by boat and jeep. What a perfect place. We will be back
Enjoyed the stay. Lake was nice and area was quiet. Nice homey house, well stocked with everything you need. We will stay again.
Great relaxing getaway
The house was very clean, well laid out and well appointed with all the things we needed. It was a great week to relax and easy to get to places up and down Michigan's west coast. Would definitely stay again!
