Very quiet, well equipt studio with great light and a gorgeous garden view. Friendly, helpful hosts! Area is close to everything you need without being in the city hub-bub, while still being a short drive to the city.
Our stay was very nice. This is located in a very quiet neighborhood and close to town. It was well kept and affordable. The owners are great and gave us information regarding places to see, eat and entertainment. It was a great stay.
Having spent a week residing on a beach at Rarotonga, it was a very pleasant change to stay in a woody and green environment. The cottage provided all (and even exceeded) our requirements. Cliff and Mary were hospitable and catered to our every need.
If one is looking for a rather secluded place for solitude and nature, this place is highly recommended. It is not suitable for those who are late night party goers or use the place to entertain in a noisy . Hong and Boon
I wrote a review of this property earlier this week. It has not appeared. Please check this out and publish my review. We have stayed several times and we hope to stay again in the future.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this delightful, fully-furnished studio. The tropical setting is lovely (and quiet!), cleanliness was exceptional, and our hosts were friendly and ready to help with any needs or questions. We highly recommend this comfortable "home base" while you explore Oahu.
the retreat is very clean, quiet , airy , relaxing
The heavenly retreat is a true Hawaiian oasis. It is set in a lush cool tropical rainforest in a valley above Honolulu. It gives the true feel of old Hawaii. The lovely little apartment opens on to a garden setting to give a feeling of peace and serenity. As a University Professor who has to fly into Honolulu to give periodic lectures, I relish staying in the heavenly retreat to recharge in the quiet lush environment not far from the University, downtown and beaches. The hosts, Cliff and Mary, are a most helpful, friendly couple who can provide excellent advice from their years of Hawaiian and worldwide travel experience. I have stayed a number of times over several years and would not hesitate to give the retreat my highest recommendation and look forward to the chance to stay again. It is a very clean, quiet. airy, open, relaxing, simple yet well appointed studio.
The property truly is representative of it's name "Heavenly Retreat". The gardens are outstanding, and there is no shortage of all kinds of little birds, which creates a peaceful ambiance.
The location is also perfect, close to Waikiki, Honolulu airport, beaches etc.
I enjoyed my stay very much, and I truly recommend it to anyone that wants to experience Hawaii and it's beauty from a nature stand point.
It was everything we hoped for and more! The pictures don't do the scenery justice. Mary and Cliff take such wonderful care of their property and the little apartment was so clean and well furnished. There was everything we could need like extra pillows, dishes, cutlery, coat hangers, sunscreen, soap, lotion, shampoo... Everything! We loved how it was on a tiny private road where you couldn't hear the road. Every morning we were greeted by the subtle sounds of the jungle birds chirping in the lush trees. It was just amazing. 100% satisfied!

Heavenly Valley was truly heavenly
The Heavenly Valley Retreat proved to be ideal for my wife and daughter, and me. The location is about 20 min from downtown Honolulu and the nearby beautiful Waialae beach. Cliff and Mary were excellent hosts. If we come back to Oahu in the near future again, we will most certainly choose to stay at this VRBO property. The listing description was completely accurate and the property was well maintained. An excellent choice for a couple or a couple and a child.
The studio was very nice. The host were gracious and accommodating. The studio has most of the amenities needed for a weeks stay. The setting is quiet and you feel like you are in a tropical rain forest. The only 2 inconveniences were no air conditioning and no microwave. For "mainlanders" accustomed to air conditioning it was a bit uncomfortable at first but with the fans we managed. We would also recommend having a few more bath towels available. I would recommend this location to others but I would let them know about the lack of AC. The location of the house is easy to get to and close to stores, shops and restaurants. Having previously lived in Hawaii for several years it was not a problem to get around.
Perfect location. Close to Waikiki and UH Manoa, but quiet and relaxing.
Beautiful and quiet location up Palolo Valley just minutes from Waikiki. Clean and comfortable and the rains at night made for peaceful sleeping. The owners Cliff and Mary live above. They afford you privacy but are very responsive and helpful if you need something. Comfy bed for 2 and a fold out futon was perfect for my wife and I and our college-bound daughter. Kitchen was well stocked with anything we needed to make meals. We enjoyed several wonderful dinners in the hip Kaimuki neighborhood of northeast Honolulu only 5 mins. away. We would recommend "Town" and "Mud Hen Water". We hope to return for future stays when we visit our daughter.
The place was a great place to stay in Honolulu. The owners were very friendly and helpful and we didn't need a thing. I already have recommended it to others.
I would love to come again. The only thing I would change would be a better curtain at the front window as I was conscious of the outside looking in when we were there at night with the lights on. Other than that....It was a superb place to stay and I want to come back again!!!
Mary and Cliff are the consummate hosts and their retreat is quite amazing. When you are in the upper bed you are at ground level and it harkens back to camping and being close to the smells and sounds of Nature. Their beautiful, tropical gardens are magnificent and all around you. The breezes come down the mountain and right into your room as they pass through the neighboring palms, creating that most wonderful sound. We highly recommend this sanctuary for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Waikiki for serenity, while at the same time being 10 minutes away from beaches, restaurants and so many attractions.
This small basement studio apartment is located deep in Palolo Valley away from the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas. It was only about a 5 -10 minute drive to H-1. So a car was necessary to get around. I did take some walks to explore the neighborhood which is very hilly. There is a small frig and stove with all the kitchen supplies one might need. There was not a microwave oven, however, which would have been handy to warm up leftovers. A washer and dryer were made available to me but it was upstairs in the owners' home and I would have had to make arrangements to use it but didn't want to bother.
I mostly liked the fresh breezes and had the screened windows open all time. I was comfortable by myself for my week-long stay, but would have felt crowded with another person or any children. The owners lived upstairs and were very social and helpful. They were also very accommodating as to my late arrival and departure.
The Heavenly Valley Retreat was a lovely, charming place to stay for our week on Oahu. The description and pictures were accurate and the owners extremely lovely and helpful. It was as clean as the proverbial whistle, and the one thing we needed help with (a very capable but noisy fan) was remedied immediately. We were there at this time to provide some babysitting services for my 3 1/2 year-old granddaughter, so many of the things we did during the day were fun and quite touristy. Although we dined and picnicked with my daughter and her family, we had breakfast at three wonderful places, City Diner, Kokohead Cafe, and the Nook. We "did" the zoo, Sea Life Park, the Aquarium and the Bishop, and returned happily to the Heavenly Valley Retreat at night. I didn't even take pictures because everything on the site was as good and as accurate as any I could take. I would certainly recommend this place to a party of two.
We had a lovely 8 nights here at the end of January. Everything was in order, very clean and well maintained. Parking was easy, you probably want a rental car to get in and out and take advantage of the ease of access to the island with out the congestion of the Waikiki tourist scene.
It's back in Paololo Valley, in a small sub-valley with a stream and about 8 other houses all energy efficient. There's lots of greenery and indeed breezes blowing in the trees and cooling at night, the songs of birds to wake to.
It's cozy, with a platform bed with windows on 2 sides, a fold down futon, a kitchen and a nice bathroom. We would make breakfast there each morning.
We shopped at the local market and a near by Whole Foods or went out to dinner in Kaimuki at some very fine restaurants. The beaches on the east end were available in about 20 minutes.
Hawaii Kai also had some nice places to eat.
The hosts: Mary and Cliff were never in our way and yet if we called, were always attentive and helpful.
If you would like to visit Hawaii and have your own space, this is an excellent choice.

Our property offers the uniqueness of being close to nature, being next to conservation land while at the same time being just a few minutes away from beaches & shopping. Another advantage is there is free off street parking in the large driveway.
