The property itself was beautiful. Loved the island in the kitchen. Loved how it was set up. Down falls mattress protectors covered in stains n what looked like feces. Air conditioner didnt work well and the washer stopped drainin after one use.
2nd stay here. We will be back. This is a nice comfy home with an open beachy feel. Nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. We had a small issue and our hosts quickly resolved.Hot tub and lookout are nice extras.
Overall, it was a good stay for the price. There were a few minor issues that we left in a list with the housekeeping tip envelope. We did really like the layout of the house. It has the kitchen/great room in the center and there are 2 bedrooms on either side. Each pair of bedrooms shares a bathroom. We had issues with doors not wanting to stay closed. You really had to be careful while in the bathroom and either prop the door closed, or just hold the handle while occupying the toilet. Also, the handle had fallen off the one shower prior to our visit and was just hanging there. Luckily, there was a tiny post coming out that we were still able to use that shower. There is a laundry room separate from the living area that we were able to access. Both the washer and dryer did work well. Unfortunately, the dryer lint catch tray had a hole and pieces of lint were blown out of the dryer vent into the open jeep that was parked below. We did LOVE the large bookshelf with a great assortment of books to look at! There was a great variety and we all enjoyed leafing through them! The outdoor seating left much to be desired. We managed to get 4 chairs to sit on the deck. The others were broken or very rusty. There was only one usable adirondack chair. It would have been nice to have more comfortable chairs in the hot tub area.LINENS AND TOWELS ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH THIS HOUSE. 'Bed Sheets' are listed under the amenities. Elsewhere it states you must rent the linens.
Quiet neighborhood. Pleasant stay. 2022 remodel seems to have been successful. The house has losts of Outer Banks character. Central location in Salvo, NC allowed us to do day trips to both the north and to the south. Overall a great stay and great vacation.
The house has some flaws. But this is to be expected from an older beach house. The location is great! The price point is great! We had some some AC issues but the management company was diligent in trying to find a solution.
The house is a bit dated but has its charm- loved the location and hot tub. Towels were provided. Wish there had been cleaning supplies provided tho, we had to bring our own soap for the bathrooms and kitchen, as well as wipes, etc. the vhs collection is very retro and awesome
The house was perfect for the four of us, and the owners are obviously making improvements, new kitchen floor and countertops, new HD Direct TV, new HVAC. Great selection of books, games, movies, puzzles, etc. Very quick response time from owners when asked questions. However there were no fish in the ocean in front of this home, very disappointed.
We truly enjoyed our stay. Weâve always stayed in the Nags Head area but this trip was last minute so not much was available. We decided to try staying further south and ended up picking this house. The location is pretty good. From the 3rd story deck you have a fairly decent view of the sound and the ocean. The house is a well worn, true to the area beach house. Do not expect modern, because this home is anything but that which was fine with us. My only true complaint about the home were the mattresses. My wife and I are only mid 30s but still woke up sore every morning and had trouble getting a good nightâs sleep. The previous complaints about the air conditioning have been remedied and the house was pleasant during our stay. All-in-all in our experience, we donât believe that this house deserves the low ratings that it gets. While I donât plan to stay further south than Nags Head, if I did, I wouldnât hesitate to stay here again, but Iâd do so with an air mattress.
I was skeptical to rent this property due to the previous less than stellar reviews. However, I read through the each review and the owners responses about renovations being cumbersome. Being that I am a sucker for second chances, I took a leap of faith and rented the property. I am happy to say, this property was well cleaned, beautiful, and in a great location for a more than reasonable price. Bernie was quick to communicate with me, we had fresh towels, linens, and one of the best stocked kitchens for a vacation rental that I had ever seen.
Yes, the property is your typical older beach home, with typical beach house furnishings, but we did not have any issues. We came to sight see, and enjoy board games, chess, and cards during the evenings. It was a vacation for family togetherness, solitude for the rigorous of everyday life, and we found that here.
Thank you for a great vacation location, with no issues! I hope this encourages others to rent and enjoy the house, hot tub, and beautiful views of the sunrise over the ocean!
AC broken, holes in the walls, bugs and mold and mildew under the kitchen sink, porch unsafe- rotten boards, nails protruding, uneven. Light switch leading to main porch covered in bird feces. Grill was left full of ashes, grate crusty and broken. The under-house area was littered with trash, bag of dog poo left under the porch, broken chairs, toys. Scaffolding thrown against fence. Shower was dirty with poor water pressure. Landscaping overgrown and grass uncut. Trash full and maggoty.
We all enjoyed the visit. The area is beautiful. However the house has a lot of flaws. Generally it needs an overall redo. The flooring in the kitchen has gaps where the planks are not flush, the handrails to the decks are loose in some areas. Personally I think all the decks need replacing. The sliding doors need a real lock rather than metal rods. The smaller bathroom needs the shower head and pipe fixed (a temporary fix was done by us) and the handle for the water access falls off. There needs to be a ladder or stool so those of us who are vertically challenged can use the hot tub. The closets are chock-a-block with items so they are of no use. Some of the small appliances do not work at all or barely work. A general deep cleaning would be a good idea. The access to the beach is treacherous. You need to climb up through the dunes and the down the dunes to get to the beach. This should have been pointed out. We tried several accesses. Yes, the beach is 5 minutes away if you are young. We made do with what we had and did have a great trip!
The âupdatesâ that the listing talks about are close to none. The place has an insane leak above the fireplace. The whole wall ended up being soaked by the end of our 3 night stay. The provided NO paper towels, toilet paper, or anything for dishes except one dishwasher pod just so you know before going. The washer and dryer room is almost impossible to get into and it is a hazard in there. Nails on the floor and so much material left from cabinets and other construction type things. We killed SO many roaches while here⊠the grill downstairs was disgusting. The outside shower had boards falling off of it. Lastly the deck and railings had nails sticking out all over and were so slippery from all the grime growing on them. The place is still falling apart in so many ways. But hey at least it was cheapâŠ
This property is in bad shape. I reserved this place 6 month early. TWO DAYS before my stay the owner emailed me stating his place was not fully ready for us. Laundry was not working and still under construction. Did not have enough time to get another place. This place is DIRTY, beds and bed sheets not clean, blood was found on one of them. There were roaches in the house and smelled like wet dog. slept with the lights on after my husband fixed the light in the room we were staying. This owner knew our plans to celebrate my sonâs graduation and my parents anniversary in his property, but he seems a cold person didnât care. Only spent one horrific night and I was charged for that. Donât waste your time and money reserving this place. Not worth it!
This listing needs to be removed. Yes, itâs that bad
Was notified one day before check in that thereâd be no sheets or towels. Bernie asked us to wait past check in time to arrive, so they could clean. We waited as long as we could and the house was still not cleaned. Hair on the toilets and toothpaste on the sinks. Un wiped countertops. Rotten breast milk in the fridge. Slug on a dirty dish rag. THE COFFEE MACHINE WAS STILL ON. House is falling apart and unsafe for children. Exposed nails on porch railing and nails all over the ground. Exposed insulation. Very bad water damage under bedroom windows facing the ocean. Majority of the outlets do not work, and one sparked when removing a charger. House rocks so bad the water from the hot tub splashes out. Awful communication w the host. Step it up.

Overall
We have maintained rentals for years, would never let one of our rentals deteriorate this bad. Yes it is a beach house, but it should be maintained a lot better. Start by hiring someone to fix the dry rot, redo the ceiling, replace the kitchen counter
The good: The house is close to the beach, the rates are reasonable, lovely little beach house. We were able to speak with owner and property management about issues. There were no bugs that we saw during our 6 day stay (this was mentioned in previous reviews). The owner did refund us one day due to looking for a new place to stay and finding a solution to our problem, which we were able to do by ourselves. The bad: the A/C was not working when we arrived. It was 83 degrees in the house upon arrival. We called the property management company and they said they know that the owner was having issues with the A/C. The owner called later to let us know that an air conditioning technician would be coming out that evening or the next day. An air conditioning technician did come late on the following day. We were vacationing with my father-in-law who is in his 80s and the heat was definitely a concern for us. as well as the general uncomfortableness of it reaching almost 90° daily. The owner graciously offered us a refund for our stay but that would also mean that we would need to find another location in July when it is impossible to find a new rental. I spent the most of one day, trying to find another location somewhere close to the beach. This is important to us because weâre not sure if we were to get another vacation with my father-in-law. My husband managed to find a portable air conditioner, which we purchased and used during our stay. This home has potential but needs care
This property really shouldnât be a rental. To say it is in ROUGH shape is an understatement. The only positive of this rental is the location. It is a very short walk to the beach along a pathway. The house itself is all overgrown and has an unmowed lawn, support beams that arenât even attached to the house (making it shake constantly), decks in VERY bad shape with nails sticking out and rotten boards, railings falling off, water damage inside, DirectTV and wifi that doesnât work, cockroaches, no outside lighting, old construction debris laying all over, hot tub was not cleaned or kept up (very low water, filled with sand, and no chlorine tablets). .
There is no real protocol of how and when to contact the owner. Information on the listing is incorrect. There is no rental agency who takes care of the property making it a very sketchy process with the owners. No instructions on how to get the keys. We arrived with no cell phone number of the owner and took them a while to respond to us when we arrived and found out there were no towels for us and the coffee pot didnât work. Washing machine broke on day 3 of us being there and only using it twice. Owners never could get it fixed while we were there, so we had to use a laundromat. Then the owners filed a claim with the travel liability insurance we bought for a $500 repair on a 20 year old washing machine. For real?
Do not waste your money! This place should be condemned! Itâs unsafe and THAT BAD!
Location is only good thing! Heads up on your stay here. Hope they fix issues!
I really donât want to give a poor review because any day at the beach is a good day. However, our stay had issues. These issues seem to be consistent throughout the other reviews. I have found a pattern with the owners contacting guests 2 days before their stay to report an issue. Our major issue was with the AC. And apparently it has been reported to owners as not working properly for awhile! So our decision to go ahead with our vacation was not one we had much choice. They placed mini AC units in 3 of the 4 bedrooms. They worked to cool off the rooms to 74-75 only at the coolest part of the night. But, this was only 3 bedrooms. For the interior area it hovered around 80 during the day. With the very old ceiling fan on high all the time and one box fan from the 80âs (falling apart), we tried to strategically place so it would draw the air from one of the AC units to the middle living area. We tried to make the best of an uncomfortable situation because honestly it was like a âcamping typeâ feel to this situation. With the humidity coming in through the open gap in windows from AC units being placed, to the sticky grimy feel on everything.
The minor issues in the house are still the same as previous reviews. Not much has changed. Laundry area VERY unclean. Ice maker doesnât work. Trash in yard. House sways. Missing spindles on deck. Mop and bucket left on deck. Lightbulbs burned out. Remote batteries missing or not working. Would love to get some money back!
Totally works for a multi family beach vacation, but there are some things worth noting...
Pros:
* the price is right
* the flexibility of # days, etc.
* layout and decor of house
* location (& beautiful view from widow's walk)
* communicative property manager, housekeeping, etc.
* hot tub works and receives regular maintenance
Concerns:
* The house is outdated and sort of falling apart in (mostly) cosmetic, non-essential ways. A few simple repairs would make a huge improvement. I understand that any expense like that detracts from the owner's profit, but there are issues that could make or break a family's decision to return to the house next time or find another one.
* The dishes and utensils are clearly someone else's discards; the bowls are Christmas-themed, for example
* Some of the cabinets and drawers in the kitchen are racked to the point of being unusable and frankly dangerous if someone did try to use them
* The television, wiring, remote control, etc., are functional but odd. There are random old electronics sitting around.
* The house is literally shaky. I understand that a house on stilts has some give, but--for a humorous example--my 7yo son started flossing (dancing) in the living room, and the coffee literally sloshed up and out of the coffeemaker in the kitchen. I'm not kidding.
Warning:
* There are no bathroom linens! Bring your own or call ahead to make arrangements ($$$) to have some made available to you.
* There is no hand soap.
* Management provided laundry detergent and normal dish soap but did not provide dishwasher detergent
BOTTOM LINE: I'd give it 3.5 stars if that were an option, but with a little TLC and investment, this house could easily be a 4 or 5 star rental. We loved the location and all the other stuff listed under the PROs, but we'd have to see some of those other issues addressed, namely the kitchen drawers and quality/quantity of dishes, be addressed before deciding to make this our go-to Outer Banks beach house rental.
This house represents the perfect combination of relaxation, adventure and solitutude. It's close proximity to major metropolitan areas of the mid-Atlantic region makes the location ideal. A hot tub accents your relaxing experience.
The view from the top deck is breathtaking. This is the ultimate place to relax with family and friends while taking in the view. Also the beach is literally right behind the house which you can see from the deck. A five minute walk gets you there. The hot tub caps off your already super relaxing day! Bed and bath linens are provided...
