This private riverfront home offers bohemian luxury and 1960s style with an awesome riverfront location.
The River House was built in 1948 and offers three bedrooms and two newly remodeled baths with all modern amenities. The house has been meticulously maintained. The style of the home Mid-Century meets 1960s chic. The chef's kitchen is newly remodeled and highly functional. This is pristine riverside living at its best.
The sights and sounds of the beautiful Smith River are at your doorstep. There are many hiking trails close by on the middle and north forks of the river as well as the virgin Redwood forests of Jedidiah Smith State Park after whom both the park and river were named.
The River House is a great place to unwind. It is a retreat from the rigors of everyday life and a rare opportunity to take stock of natureâs pristine abundance.
The house is available for your enjoyment year around. Whether you enjoy hiking, fishing, rafting or simply relaxing to the sound of one of Americanâs most beautiful rivers. You will find peace here.
Whether you are a nature lover, an artist, or a big city dweller in need of break, you will find inspiration at your River House on the Smith.

The cabin was well kept, clean, and near the river as advertised. However, just after arrival around dusk, the electricity went out suddenly. Attempts were made to contact the host by phone ( voice mail box was full so we could not leave a message), text message, and email. We did not hear back from the host until a day or more later, and only by email. VRBO customer support made the exact same attempts and got no response. We were unaware that the grid had been shut down in response to a fire. This must happen more often than not, but we were not prepared, nor did we know where flashlights were. Fortunately the grid went back on in a reasonable timeframe. Disappointed about the host not being available to us. Otherwise, the setting was beautiful and enjoyable. (Could have used shampoo in the Queen room as well as hairdryer.)
Loved our stay in this home directly over the Smith River. We used to own the house, so it was a very sentimental visit. You you can hear the water run over the short stretch of rapids below the back patio. A very low key area, so pure relaxation. Not much to do in the area, so you have to be into the river and enjoying friends, as we did. Be sure to do your grocery shopping in Crescent City!!
It was a very nice home with a wonderful deck overlooking the Smith river. The kitchen was well stocked and very convenient, and the bedrooms were great. Our only complaint was the furniture in the living room. It was too modern and just not very comfortable.
Three friends came to bask in the beauty of the redwoods and this house felt more like a home. Beautiful quiet location. Private rooms for each of us and a dream kitchen for us to cook in. We were out so much I wished we were home more to enjoy the house and backyard. I would love to stay here again.
Book it!! This home and it's surroundings are amazing.. so peaceful, relaxing and beautiful... This home has everything you want.. we spent alot of our time on the deck listening to the sound of the water flowing, the birds singing, and enjoying the beautiful flowers. We enjoyed sitting by a fire in the evenings.. The homeowners answered any questions we had quickly and very helpful.. This home made us feel very comfortable.. we enjoyed taking in the local sites including going to the Redwoods state park and seeing the beautiful huge trees, breathtaking forsure.. we stopped at the local market for ice cream!! We thank you for sharing your home with us..
Excellent location. Communication with owner is excellent, friendly, helpful. Beds are a bit uncomfortable, not terrible. Views, fire pit, house layout and kitchen layout are perfect!
We could not have picked a more perfect location & property for our vacation! The description & pictures truly do not do it justice! The host was easy to communicate with & he provided us with not only any & all info relative to our stay, but also dining recommendations & history of the property. The home has a special charm, is beautifully appointed, & is cozy & comfy. We only ate out twice while there, as I love to cook. I have never rented a home with a kitchen so well stockedâŠI had a blast preparing meals! The scenery is simply breathtaking, with the river right off the deck. So many things to do nearby. The Redwood National Park entrance was less than 10 minutes from the house. The neighborhood is quiet & the house felt secluded. We made new friends with the neighbors across the street & enjoyed entertaining on our deck! Crescent City is less than 30 minutes & worth visiting. The Battery Point Lighthouse was a worthy excursion. We can highly recommend the Seaquake Brewery in Crescent City, as well as the Hiouchi Cafe between Gasquet & Hiouchi. We definitely plan to return! Thank you, Dean, for being the quintessential host!
Our stay was a 103 birthday celebration for my mother. All of us enjoyed the deck and river view tremendously. We all had to be careful walking to the front door because of the loose and uneven stepping stones.
My two sisters and I had a wonderful stay at the Smith River house. Everything we needed was provided. We enjoyed fires each night in the outdoor fireplace. We canât wait to go back in the spring when the the river is full.
Thank you.
The Smith River is one of the most pristine and beautiful places anywhere. After visiting over 50 countries I have not seen a place more natural and vibrant.
To spend time enjoying the beauty of the Smith River and Six Rivers National Forest. I want to share it with others who appreciate such a peaceful and special place.
You can swim and hike is so many beautiful places here and often have them all to yourself. The water in the river is crystal clear and among the cleanest and freshest rivers anywhere. Wild Salmon, Steelhead and Ocean going Cutthroat Trout are plentiful but ellusive.
