Comfortable house great location Just a couple blocks from the heart of Mukawao With plenty of good restaurants easily available. Owner was extremely responsive And accommodating. But highly recommend this place as a base for upcountry as well as north shore beaches
was a great place to come back and relax after our day of adventuring. Was centrally located to do all the things we wanted to do. The dinner table was spacious and we played board games there every night with the games we brought.
I travel to Hawaii every year or so to visit family and have not had great experiences at vacation rentals there. I decided to try again and hit the jackpot with this place. It was clean, spacious, and, very importantly for me, had an extremely comfortable bed. It was only me, but it's so large and spacious that it would be of fantastic value for a small group or family. The view from the dining room and lanai was fantastic, the neighborhood quiet, and it's within walking distance to one of my favorite places in Hawaii, the village of Makawao. The host, Mark, was extremely accommodating and kind. The next time I go back to Maui, this place is at the top of my list.
Property was as advertised , could not have found a better property, I have visited Maui Three times over the last 25 years , this is a great property for anyone who wants a nice quiet ( except for the roosters, which are all over the Island) but we loved the property to want to come back
Beautiful views, quiet, great location. Walking distance from downtown Makawao. Great light, lots of big windows. Comfy bed and furniture. Well appointed. Nice owner.
It was a fantastic stay here in Makawa. My friends and I are here celebrating a big birthday and home was just perfect for us. The views are incredible. The weather in Makawao is so cool. In the evenings you just never need an air conditioning.
We met Mark the owner, who was super nice and accommodating. I will come back here with my family again if itâs available.
Loved this slice of Paradise including Miss Kitty (neighbors social cat) who greeted us at our car before and after every adventure. We wanted to stay away from the sea of humanity this time and explore more of the interior of the island. The house was comfy and well equipped and placed us closer to Haleakala and the Lavendar Farm, as well as great eats in Haiku. Makawao is charming and has everything you need including a great market. I would definitely stay here again!
Our stay on Maui was great in big part because of our booking at Pookela Paradise. Mark was very easy to communicate with and provided a very nice place for us to stay. The house is well set up and has great views. It has all the things we needed and is in a perfect location as long as you have a car to get around the island. We were even able to store our bags on the last day so that we could take off for the day and not worry about what was in our car all day at the beach. Thanks, would love to stay here again another time.
Great property. Walking distance to historic Makawao. Beautiful view of the mountains and bay from the deck and dining area, great sunsets. Full kitchen. Laundry access is a plus! Comfy beds. Overall it was nice staying in a neighborhood. Only downside is the noise of the neighborhood: rosters crowing a lot of the night, dogs barking, etc. So just bring ear plugs.

Pookela Paradise
The house is beautiful but there is a house being built next to it on the property with all the attending noise and bad smells. The neighborhood is also quite noisy. The house was not very well supplied. The owner is on site and very friendly.
Maui is magical no matter what, and we all had a great time.
We wanted a central location to explore the whole island and this couldnât have been better. Itâs just around the corner from Makawaoâs main drag, which is really convenient for restaurants etc., but it feels rural because of the propertyâs layout. And other than the far east and west sides of the island, we got to most places within 30 minutes drive.
The property is well-kept, has all conveniences (with the notable exception of air conditioning) and was an excellent home base. I really loved having cool mountain evenings after hot summer days at sea level. It was an experience I wasnât expecting to have on this trip!
We traveled with our two kids (7 and 4) and theyâre already asking when we can go back to the Hawaii house. Highly recommended!
We loved our 8 day stay in this house. The neighborhood is quiet, peaceful and the home is in a lovely and private setting- close to many splendid day trips to Hana, Haleakala, a great beach in Paia and the awesome town of Paia itself. Staying in this Makawao home, we felt so much more like locals and less like tourists vs. the condo strip in Kihei.
The owner was very accommodating when we needed an early check in.
Our one recommendation would be to supply guests with basic amenities for the kitchen (salt, spices, sugar, paper towels, etc) and wash cloths for the bathroom. Also, the master bed is a bit bouncy and sinking and wasn't too comfortable. A new mattress would be ideal.
I would still recommend this house with its spacious and simple feel. We had a magical time.
The house in general was well located - central to everything. It was spacious, had beautiful views and equipped with everything one would need. We rated it 3-star only because it needed a good cleaning, there was no mention of additional units on the first floor with this unit up on the second floor and in general our good neighbors were loud at times.
The furniture was well worn and some items need replacing - ice maker not working, microwave missing the glass turn table and cushions could use some minor stitching repair and cleaning.
Further, our neighbors though very friendly, weâre pretty loud. From the immediate apartment below, the house on the same property and from across the road!
Regardless, we did enjoy our stay as it was near everything we planned to do.
The house was fantastic with glorious views and located in a quiet area. Its proximity to the heart of Makawao was an added bonus. The host was very professional, friendly, and very responsive to inquiries. The only constructive criticism I can offer is that the floors in the house should have been cleaned a bit better, especially for a property at this price point. Upon check-in, there was a bit of beach sand on the floors in the bathroom, kitchen, and sitting area. We quickly cleaned that up upon arrival, and otherwise, everything was wonderful. The host outsources the cleaning crews, so this certainly is not a reflection on him. He promotes this property so professionally and wants to provide a top-notch experience for his guests, I just feel that perhaps the cleaning service being used is not living up to his expectations. Overall, it was a fabulous experience, and we will definitely consider rebooking for a future visit to Maui!
The location offers the ideal mix of being a short walk to Makawao Town and all the North Shore attraction yet worlds apart on it's own private land with spectacular views.
This property is set up for enJOYment of your surroundings in a relaxed comfortable environment. The design lives large with panoramic ocean views of the West Maui Mountains and South Maui Shorelines. And, wait until you see the sunsets!!!
