The reason to stay in this cabin is the AMAZING location. You are in your own slice of Maine costal wilderness. The sunsets are beautiful, you can watch the seals every day, and paddleboarding in the cove is perfection. The house, however, has not been updated in quite in some time. There are no doors on bedrooms, one of the "twin" beds is more of a cot size, and there are minimal comfortable chairs in the living room (especially when you're using the futon as a bed).

We are lucky to have our cabin on one of the nicest location on the Island. It has been in the family since the late 1800's. Visitors have become repeats every year. We generally open up reservations in November for the next season..

Small family cottage right on the ocean with incredible view of nature and sunsets that is incredibly private. We rented kayaks had them delivered to property for the week. Seals basked on the rocks. Eagles and loons came in the morning to look for food. Their were binoculars on the table and books on the local wildlife. We watched the tide come in and out and just enjoyed sitting at the table in front of the large picture window taking it all in every morning. . The property is dog friendly and my daughter's dog had a great time as well. It seemed like it only took 15-20 mins to get anywhere, Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Southwest Harbor, grocery stores and half of that time was getting out of the private dirt road through the nature conservancy. We were so close to all the activities without the crowds staying on the "quiet side". This was our first visit to Maine and Acadia National Park and we wanted to stay somewhere we could experience the natural beauty of the area and this was it !!! Couldn't have asked for more. Beautiful property & a wonderful experience!

Absolutely such a special place! It’s hard to put into words how beautiful the views were. The history of the cabin was amazing. Our son and a blast beach combing and listening to the seals. I didn’t ever want to leave the cabin to go into town.

Stay was great on Indian Point near Bar Harbor, ME. Really enjoyed the location and the peace and quiet away from town. The cabin was comfortable but the bedroom and bathroom were a bit small and hot with no A/C - we were there during an unusually hot week in August. Otherwise would have rated 5 vs 4. The wildlife (seals and eagles) and proximity to nature was awesome.

Slice of heaven

What an amazing place. We have been coming to Acadia for years and this has to be the best kept little secret. The cabin is so homey and comfortable and the views and wildlife is spectacular. We rented kayaks that were delivered to the door and loved starfish hunting and seal watching. Very easy to get to carriage roads and bar harbor but found we wanted to spend more days hanging in the natural beauty at the cabin!

the property goes back over 125+ years with my great, great grand father Higgins first built on Indian Point who all grew up in Bar Harbor. Of all the the locations on the island this was their choice taking horse and carriage to get out of town. Going back 50 years it was use as an artist retreat for inspiration. I have always said when the Island was socked in fog there would be mini high pressure over the point and was sunny and warm winds to hang on the beach.

Paradise

This place was amazing! Peaceful, beautiful, and just what my boys and I needed for our vacation! We woke up to the beauty of the water each day along with the seals sunbathing nearby. This was a quiet, rustic retreat close to many trails near the cabin and not far in Acadia. We are so thankful we had this opportunity and are forever grateful!

Awesome stay!

This was one amazing vacation! The property has the most beautiful views of the ocean and woods. We really lucked out with the weather as it was relatively hot, so we ended up swimming in the ocean and enjoying high and low tides. Our boy enjoyed watching crabs and climbing rocks. The water here is very warm compared to the other parts of the ocean that we went to. There is also a lot to do in the area and everything is within the short distance, such as whale watching in Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, small fishing villages within 40 minute drive, lots of good antique shops. I would totally visit again despite a 20 hour drive :). Thank you for letting us stay here!

We are pleased that the Uncle Tom cabin at the Cottage at Indian Point experience was positive for all especially with the children being able to learn the natural wonders on the ocean front there . Acadia National Park practically out the back door offers many more. We have many repeat visitors , some staying two weeks at a time.

View!!

My family had a wonderful stay here. The view is amazing. The setting is cozy, quiet and relaxing. We enjoyed exploring low tide (definitely bring water shoes you don’t want to miss this opportunity) and all the sea creatures. And swimming at high tide (the water is much warmer than the standard Maine ocean). And the seals!!! So many seals! For reference my boys are 9 and 11… in addition to the ocean they liked exploring the woods (no big foot was to be found but lots of deer), riding their bikes down the road and hiking the trails in the preserve.

Location is everything with this rustic home. The views of nature and the large seal colony from the deck are unsurpassed. At high tide you feel like you’re on a boat. The beach is excellent. The home itself has two “bedrooms” that are connected by a sliding curtain type door. You need to walk through the first room with two twin beds to get to the main bedroom. All bedroom doors are curtains. There is a large futon in the living room area that can be used as a bed. The bathroom is sufficient. The shower is quite small in case there are taller folks in your party. Jennifer the cleaner does an excellent job of keeping the place very clean. Unfortunately communication was a bit off in regards to the check in process. Fortunately the back door was left open so we could get into the house. I’m sure this must have been an oversight but could have been a real problem. The key location was disclosed the morning after the day of check in. The kayak that was provided was a huge hit with the family. There are 3 other homes located near the house and are set away from each other with trees and property in between. Most neighboring homes were empty when we visited making for extra privacy. It takes about 25 minutes to get to Bar Harbor from the home. Absolutely great trip to a historical home on the Maine coast!

Rustic property on ocean front

This is an amazing spot on the ocean. We arrived late the first night and were greeted by "grunting seals" that were splashing around in the water. We really enjoyed watching them and checking out the surrounding area on paddle board and walking. This is a rustic cabin. Very simple and we thought it was really cool. Bring your own beach towels as there was only one there. Bring your own bathroom towels if you need extra as they were worn. If you need to work, bring a booster as the WIFI did not allow us to check in with work/emails etc. which was not necessarily a bad thing. Prepare to totally relax and enjoy an absolutely beautiful place.

Nothing compares to this as Nature Lover's Retreat

I hesitate for write this review for fear of letting the secret of this amazing place out, but we are so grateful to the family who owns this unique property for making the experience of this amazing place available. It is a rare chance to experience a coastal Maine cabin surrounded by wildlife and coastal forest. There are seals and bald eagles at your front door all day long and deer at your back door. The cabin is right on the water and even the road into the cabin is through a nature preserve. The entire front of the cabin offers views across the bay in two directions. The cabin itself takes me back to coastal and lake cabins I knew as a child and I cannot express how much we appreciated the opportunity for our children to have the cabin experiences we remember from our childhoods.

Wonderful Getaway

Property was located in the most ideal location for privacy and convenience. The cabin sat right on the water and access to the beach was just steps away. Some neat history if you read through some of the "artifacts" throughout the cabin. Our kids had a blast finding/catching crabs, clams and even oysters! Watching the seals was an event in itself -they were so close. The cabin was rustic. Nothing fancy, but we were okay with that. Somesville church had amazing baked pies (must try) - within 10 mins. Town Hill market had great deli sandwiches and ice cream - less than 10 mins. The Travelin Lobster was good and super close - less than 10 mins. Blagden Preserve had a hiking trail closeby which was convenient AND free EV charging spots (which was helpful). Lots of things to see and do.

Uncle Tom's Cabin is a little slice of heaven! Nestled at the end of a long dirt road, past land owned by the Nature Conservancy, it provides a private, secluded oasis from how busy Acadia National Park has become. I went in June with my husband and two sons (ages 7 and 10). We watched seals sunning themselves on the rocks right in front of the cabin and swam everyday at the little private beach just steps from the cabin. The boys explored the exposed rocks at low tide. We fell asleep and woke up to the quiet lapping of water and distant calls of sea birds. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need to cook. We cooked almost every night and ate dinner watching the wildlife. There are some items to note that may not make this everyone's cup of tea. First, there is no laundry or dishwasher. The cabin is small and you have to walk through the bedroom with two single beds to get to the room with a double bed. There is no AC. The sun comes up very early in the summer. The internet is adequate but not super fast. But if you are looking for incredible natural beauty, seclusion, opportunities to watch seals, and direct access to the beach, while also being very close to the action of Acadia National Park, this is for you.
