Rustic, private retreat with 1,000 square foot solar powered off grid cabin, 2 ponds (fish stocked), and picnic shed, fire pit and charcoal grilling area on 75 acres with hiking areas. The cabin is furnished with antiques and has a true historic flair. There is a propane range, woodstove, propane gas log heater and beautiful stone wood burning fireplace. Firewood is provided. There is a gas grill at the cabin. The cabin has an open floor plan with a tin roof. The cabin has hot and cold running water inside. There is an enclosed shower/sink room with hot water adjacent to the cabin. A few steps from the cabin there is a pit toilet. There is no indoor toilet. There is no air conditioning. There is no refrigerator, so you need to bring a cooler and ice. The amount of solar power is subject to the amount of sunshine we get and how leafed out the trees are. We provide oil, salt, pepper, sugar and coffee filters. Bring your coffee of choice. We have a pour over drip coffee carafe and a percolator. Falling acorns may be loud on the tin roof in the fall. We do have white noise machines by each bed. This property is not appropriate for small children.
We had a really nice time staying at this off-grid cabin! It was peaceful and relaxingâexactly what we were looking for. We spent most of our time fishing in the pond right on the property, which was a great way to unwind. The cabin feels secluded and quiet, but it's also only about 15 minutes from Asheville, so it's easy to head into town if you want to explore or grab a bite to eat. A great spot for anyone wanting to disconnect without being too far from everything.
My stay with Rick and Joy was an absolutely wonderful experience. The communication was perfect and Joy was so helpful when I had any questions while I was there. The property is absolutely wonderful if you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of a busy life. The cabin was so much fun to stay in and rustic in nature with all the fun decorations. My dogs had a wonderful time running around and exploring. The fishing was absolutely great as well. I would recommend anyone that needs to get away from busy life to go here!!!
I can't say enough about this experience! The cabin was peaceful and beautifully built. Joy and Rick we're the best hosts, very eager to ensure our stay was perfect! This rental is the perfect place to unplug and reconnect with your family, and nature! Definitely will be coming back to this one!!
Joy and Rick made it super enjoyable and were very respinsive to anything we needed ir needed help with. The ad is quite accurate, so don't be surprised when you got to take walk in the middle of the night... if you know what I mean? Wildlife, secluded, and quiet. The perfect getway to get away. We'll definitely be booking again! Thanks again Joy and Rick.
We had a great weekend staying here! I particularly liked the cows and horses (mules maybe?) that live in the field behind the cabin. We had a great time getting off the grid for a few days.
Rick grew up here on this 5th generation farm. Rick and Joy met while attending NC State University. They own Icenhower's Farm, which started with Rick growing tobacco and produce in 1977. In 1979 they built and operated a wholesale greenhouse operation for 26 years. Rick and Joy then worked for the State of NC until they both retired in 2021. They are excited to be back on the farm, working together. They enjoy visiting their son, Benjamin and daughter in law, Katie, also NCSU graduates, in Colorado. Rick's favorite hobby is fly fishing.
This property was settled in 1915/1916 by Rick's great grandfather. A sawmill was set up here and the timber cut was used to build the farmhouse that Rick and Joy have lived in since 1977. Their son, Benjamin is the 5th generation to have lived here on the farm. We love antiques, and have filled our home and the cabin with pieces that have special meaning to us, some handed down to us by our parents and grandparents. This is an operating farm still today.
The cabin and picnic rental area are on a remote corner of the farm, off the main road. The picnic area with shed and stationary grills may be rented independently from the cabin for events if the cabin is not rented out. The cabin is solar and propane powered and is off grid. We like keeping things rustic!
