Iconic Landmark House Unit next to the beach- Panoramic Ocean/Coastal Views!

An oceanfront landmark home designed by a renowned architect, recently remodeled with upgraded windows and new flooring (May 2025). Ideally located next to the iconic La Jolla Cove, this historic home is just steps from restaurants, museums, beaches, galleries, and shops in La Jolla Village—arguably the best location in La Jolla.

This unique property is divided into two fully independent units, each with its own entrance and privacy. The only shared spaces are the garage, laundry room (with one washer and two dryers), and central A/C control. Each unit has one garage space suitable for a standard vehicle or SUV. Both units can be booked together—perfect for family reunions or small weddings. The upstairs unit (Unit 2) can be found under VRBO ID: 2786466.

To reduce noise, soundproofing materials and new flooring have been added to the upstairs unit. Please note: parties are not allowed unless the other unit is vacant.

Being right on the ocean, you’ll enjoy fresh sea air and the soothing sound of waves. This isn’t a luxury five-star hotel, but you can cook, grill, and dine with stunning ocean views—an experience hotels can’t match.

About Unit 1 (Downstairs):
This lower-level unit has exclusive use of the main entrance and includes:
• A spacious living room with a futon bed
• A kitchen and dining room
• A large master bedroom (Bedroom 1) with a king bed, full en-suite bath, a connected den with a futon sofa bed, and access to a private ocean-view deck with BBQ
• Bedroom 2 with a queen bed and ocean-view balcony
• Bedroom 3, a small room (hallway with lockable doors on each side) with two twin beds, ideal for kids, facing the side yard

- [ ] • Bedroom 4: A 7’ x 9’ den attached to the master bedroom, featuring windows with ocean views. Furnished with a double futon bed, it’s ideal for children or a single guest.

• A three-quarter bathroom (shower only)

Please note: Bedrooms 3 and 4 are compact rooms with windows and doors, but are not traditional bedrooms.

Fabulous location and wonderful stay

We loved our stay in this fabulous location right along the water. The comfortable three bedrooms (one small) worked well for our group of five. We enjoyed making coffee in the kitchen, sitting inside or at the round outdoor table, and looking out over the ocean. It was also a great place to walk to La Jolla Cove, shops and restaurants downtown or other locations along the water. Really a wonderful place

Beautiful location

Our experience of staying and working at the property was great. The beautiful views and space were welcoming. We visit this area often and can’t wait to be back. The property had all necessities and support and The host was responding quickly to any questions. So we are grateful! This is a special place for sure.

Beautiful Views

The house was beautiful and clean is very accommodating. There are gorgeous views of the ocean from the back patio and it's only a short walk to the beach. The location is great.

Radical relaxation.

Location of this unit makes walking the village very easy. Simply said the beautiful views fr every room was wonderful. The garage space was a big plus.

The house was in a beautiful location! Can't beat the walkability and the view! Plenty of room for our family. The owner was very prompt at responding to messages! Like other reviews mentioned, the garage was small but it does fit a small crossover SVU (probably not a van or any 3 row car...).

Women's Retreat

We enjoyed a weekend stay at this beautiful home. It was peaceful. The ocean views from all of the balconies are just amazing. The sounds of the waves crashing at night were like a natural soundscape. And you get the most beautiful sunset over the ocean views from the master bedroom patios. We had all the privacy we needed with quick access to all the shops we needed. Just amazing.

Awesome View

View from the house overlooking the ocean is very nice. Every room has an ocean view. The owner is very nice and prompt with answering our inquiries and requests. Since there was nobody checked in prior to our dates, Simon (owner) let us check in as early as 10 am. My wife and her friends enjoyed staying at the patio and just enjoying the view. I highly recommend this place, either to celebrate a special occasion or just wanting to relax.

Wedding celebration

The grounds are beautiful, our daughter got married up the street at the wedding bowl if was a perfect location. Family stayed upstairs In the other unit which accommodations 2 people and has a fantastic panoramic view. Needed some minor things (light bulb..etc) & owner came over right away he look care of our concerns.

The view was amazing! The house is a little older but still nice. Ensure to be open with the host as their was a little miscommunication. You can sorta hear the other unit but believe that is normal. Overall, very nice and everyone enjoyed it.

Lovely Location

The location of this home is spectacular, with a view of the cliffs in La Jolla. The communication with the property manager was excellent. The home is older, so although it was cleaned upon arrival, it could use a deep clean of the floors and kitchen area. We also ended up buying a new sponge since it seemed like it hadn't been replaced in a while. But it was nothing major and we had an excellent vacation.

Iconic Lampshade House - Panoramic Ocean/Coastal Views! - Constructed in 1923, this iconic landmark of La Jolla has attracted visitors from around the world. A permanent fixture on the La Jolla Historical Society's "Gems of the Jewel" acclaimed walking tour, the house has a long and prosperous history in the area.

Coined the "Lampshade House", due to the property's distinctive and one-of-a-kind design, the home is a trinity of cottages (Beach, English, and Craftsman) combined in an eclectic manner and constructed along the gorgeous Whale View Point with panoramic ocean and coastal views. Located steps north of the La Jolla Tide Pools and a short walk south from Seal Rock, this home has an exclusive location directly in the heart of the city.

The main level is highlighted by an elegant octagonal-shaped living room featuring a gorgeous chandelier and stunning views, a large formal dining area, the second master with an attached luxury bathroom and oceanfront patio, third bedrooms, two dens, a fully equipped kitchen with an attached garden patio, plus additional patios off the bedrooms for enjoying a surreal view, especially at sunset.

Next, the second level contains a spectacular master bedroom. The second octagonal-style room in the property, it features a stunning lofted ceiling design, accentuated with another beautiful chandelier, much like the living room. Panoramic views, again, surround the second level, which also features a master bathroom with a luxurious tub and walk-in shower, a large outdoor patio off the bathroom, an oceanfront balcony patio, an office, and a kitchenette.

Finally, an attached garage offers parking for two regular vehicles or SUV. Not fit truck.

The house is one block away from Bishop's school. In 2020, The Bishop's School was ranked as the No. 1 Christian high school in California, the best private high school in San Diego and the best high school for STEM.

3 minutes walking distance to newly remodeled contemporary art museum.

5 to 10 mins walking distance to La Jolla famous restaurant like George ‘s, Eddi ‘Vs, Duck, Nine Ten, Tai food, Japaness food, coffee shop etc. and retail store, gallery’s and super market.
