As always, we truly appreciate honest reviews. This is one is no different. However, we do take offense to being called liars. In truth, I found out after the fact that there was a review from 2019 in which someone complained about the smell, however I personally was unaware of this review until my husband pointed it out to me. It was an honest and unintentional mistake. Since that time, I cannot recall anyone having any complaints about the smell. Not from the guest who checked out the same day that this guest checked in, nor from the the guest prior to that, nor from the guests who are currently staying in the condo right now and want to rebook for 2023. I'm not sure how to address that the smell "stuck" with them as again, to my recollection no one has ever complained about that, nor have I ever personally experienced this during our own stays in our condo. And as far as we know, there have been no real issues with the plumbing in the complex as a whole. As regards the new keyless entry system, it is now fixed and working properly. It is a new entry system, having just installed it this past September 2021 and we did not know how to recode or troubleshoot the unit without calling a locksmith. Sometimes being "off island" can be a challenge in terms of finding and arranging services and repairs, etc. due to time differences and availability, and the current pandemic situations do not help. In any case, as stated previously the problem has been since been resolved. I agree that prior to renting any place, I suggest that anyone do their due diligence. Read the refund policy, the contractual agreements and all reviews before hand. Had this guest done this, then perhaps he would have found a condo that could accommodate his refund request should he find that the smell of a place was not to his liking, and not feel the need to ask for a refund AFTER checking in, as this guest did. I somewhat expected this type of a review because of this fact. And perhaps if he would have found the review regarding the smell that he referred to BEFORE he booked the condo and not after, he could have then avoided the "smell" issue altogether. This condo is our home. My husband and I did not purchase this condo with the intention of booking guests and making a ton of money. Our intention is to retire and then spend most the year at our condo, which we love. We rent it out in the meantime to help us offset the cost a bit. That being said, we are happy to share our home while we are away and do take all suggestions to heart. We try to do our best with regards to maintenance and upkeep while we are away. We will check with the Property Management about any plumbing issues, and will see about getting a new beach umbrella and ice cooler to keep there, along with all the other gear.
