Lovely cottage by stream with caboose and covered bridge over trout stream
There's nothing like relaxing on the porch swing at this quaint 2-bedroom cottage in Sugar Grove, Virginia, (near Wytheville) listening to the stream rush over the rocks. Watch our resident ducks, and then take a dip in the private swimming hole. Kids (and kids at heart) love the caboose in the yard, complete with it's own half bath. There's a big lawn for playing, great hikes nearby, plenty of fly fishing in the area, and the cottage is in walking distance to the beautiful Grayson Highlands Horse trail. Good WiFi, Direct TV (or bring your own Fire Stick), and cell phones will work if you connect them through the WiFi. The kitchen has everything you need, and a washer and dryer are available. Great spot for hunters, or for anyone that just wants to get away for a while. Borders Jefferson National forest.
The accommodations were perfect. It was well stocked with everything we needed for the weekend. The beds and furniture were comfortable. Plenty of outdoor seating as well. The caboose and covered bridge were charming and the area was perfect to explore. Would definitely stay here again- we all enjoyed it.
This cabin had all the things! The creek, the covered bridge over the creek and the caboose were fantastic. It was so pleasant to sit by the creek and listen to the water flow over the rocks. Serenity! The house had everything you would need to cook a meal and there were plenty of dishes if you needed them. The bed was very comfortable and we slept soundly. The firewood was a plus (thank you) and we had 2 fires while there. Hungry Mother State Park is about 30 minutes away in Marion and it is a very nice place to hike trails, ride bikes or lounge on the beach. The Hungry Mother Grill has THE best cheeseburgers at a very reasonable price. If you like Italian, you must try Pizza Perfect for their pizza and spaghetti. Delish! This cabin was nice and we are ready to come back! See you soon!
Very nice little bungalow. Very secluded and private. Very well equipped and appointed. Cottage has everything you need. No complaints at all. Everything is as advertised. Nice smooth rental transaction. Nice quiet place to get away from it all.
The family loved the property. The caboose was great for pictures. We donât get to see the ducks but saw lots of little fish.
We were able to cook every night with no issues. We grilled out and used the stove/over.
Would stay again if we are in the area.
This is a comfortable, private and peaceful property. Roger was very responsive and provided helpful information. The location is convenient to trout fishing and hiking
We loved our stay here! Check in was easy and we had good communication with the owner, Roger. The cottage had everything we needed to be comfortable including fast internet, tv, cooking utensils and comfortable beds. The kids loved the property, especially feeding the ducks, playing in the caboose and exploring the creek. The firepit and propane grill were also great. We made great family memories here and would definitely enjoy coming back someday.
It was such a relaxing weekend with no big plans just enjoying the solitude and beauty. We had recently mourned the passing of our fifth sister at the age of 90, so we had lots of time for reflection on our past travels. The accommodations were perfect. We enjoyed meals at Joeyâs iin Rural Retreat and the Dutch Pantryâ. Thanks again for our lovely stay
Property as discribed, well equipped but do bring personal movies or web devices if necessary. Remember where you are if wildlife is a concern. Brief encounter with small timber rattlesnake right at the cottage. Only reason mentioned is concern for children and anyone easily excited.
The property is absolutely beautiful! The water is crystal clear, and the ducks are stunning! The caboose is heated and spacious. Hopefully, next time we can bring our grandson who would have flipped over the toys inside. Everything is so prepared in the house. Plenty of pillows, blankets, places to sleep. Upon our arrival, the house was illuminated with the fireplace. It was so beautiful. The notes on the table explained everything. It was so easy, start to finish. We will definitely be back, as my parents absolutely loved this as their anniversary meetup from myself and husband!
My husband and I are both business owners and we were looking to just get away from it all, and this property did just that. If you are looking for five star accommodations, this is not your place, but if you are looking for one of the most relaxing, peaceful and comforting places to spend a weekend or more this is where you want to be! The kitchen is small but accommodated us with no problem. The furnishings are older but very comfortable. It was much cooler there in the mountains than at home, but there was no shortage of blankets for us to cuddle up with both on the porch swing and inside. We enjoyed feeding the fish and the ducks breakfast and dinner every day, and had a nice little fire in the fire pit outback. We will definitely visit this property again, most likely with friends and for a longer stay!
My wife and I enjoyed the house. The description online was very accurate. The caboose outside was really cool (I have no idea how they got that thing in there). Sitting on the porch in the morning and sipping my coffee while listening to the stream was amazing (we had abysmal weather as it rained heavily each day we were there so the stream was moving fast). The house had everything you would need. I am not sure they provide soap and shampoo but there was a few samples that looked like they were from a hotel (I assumed it was from a past guest, but I could be wrong). The kitchen had everything you need and the grill fired up on the 1st try. The place is definitely remote (roughly 20-25 minutes off of I-80) so I would suggest buying groceryâs before you arrive. We did enjoy our stay.
