When this house was built in the 70s it was the only bach in the area. The kids used to build huts in the bush, explored nearby sheep trails and ponds. Mangawhai has changed since then and the kids have grown up (and now they own the bach!) but the bach has had a makeover and extension whilst retaining its retro charm and awaits your visit
Built on a large section with lots of mature trees, the house is ideal for a summer holiday as the beach is only a short stroll down the road and the shops and cafes at Wood St are also a short walk.
Please note the garage/sleepout is a basic unlined aluminium garage so is cold in winter and can be quite warm in summer.
Wintle93 - STUNNING VIEWS await you from the living areas and sunny deck of this traditional kiwi bach which has been tastefully modernised and is within a few minutes walk to both surf beach and estuary beaches. Pet friendly and FREE wifi included!

Ideal location for trips to the surf beach, Waipu and handy to the Wood St shops and also Mangawhai Village with Bennett's Cafe and local gallery. Beach at the end of the road great for swimming and also for evening walks. Plenty of other walking trails nearby. Tracey (and Bianca) were very helpful and welcoming.
We loved this pad warts and all (sticking front door, no freezer, traffic noise, few clothes pegs). It had a great dvd and book collection, (loved dipping into The Fast Show, Extras and Robert Lacey's Great English Tales). Beautiful morning sun on deck, well equiped kitchen, close to estuary and surf beach, dog friendly - thank you for making your charming home away from home available to other kiwis!
Fantastic little bach with everything that we needed for 3 adults and one largish dog. Clean and tidy. Full kitchen. Great location and easy to find. Amazing property manager who went above and beyond to help us out. Massive board games and dvd collection. Fully recommend.
Very typical Kiwi Bach. If you want all the mod cons then this is not the place for you but we had a lovely weekend mostly device freejust relaxing. I close to local shops, and takeaways, pizzeria, and coffee. Short drive to main surf beach and estuary and super fun sand dunes, so remember to bring something to slide down them on.
The Bach has everything you need for a comfy stay, and extra beds set up to in garage for extra teens if you needed. My son loved the DVD collection and the badminton set, the close line makes a perfect net.
You have the option of paying a bit extra for linen but we chose to take our own and there is a washing machine if needed. The kitchen is well set up and a weber BBQ is available to use as well.
We were able to take our small dog with us but property is close to a main road and not fully fenced so not suitable for if you have a dog that runs off but main deck could be easily closed off with a baby gate to keep young kids and dogs secure.
We loved sitting on the deck with a a wine listening to the birds and looking down at the view, and despite traffic we still found it peaceful.
The markets on a Saturday at the school and tavern were lovely and enjoyed lunch, a beer and the amazing view afterwards. We also enjoy browsing the local op shops.
Tracey from Bach care was very friendly and helpful, and so was good to know if you needed any help at the Bach she was a phone call away. Thank you for hosting us.

A real kiwi bach. Reminded us of holidays at family baches in Hawkes Bay in the sixties.
Cosy and comfortable, old china, lots of books, games. Perfect location, close to beach for walking our dog.
We stayed for 3 nights. Great location, easy walk to local shops, estuary and beach. Pet friendly. The place isnât fully fenced and reasonably close to the road (if you are bringing a pet).
The photos need to be updated. We were expecting a basic Bach but the bathroom and toilet really need a coat of paint and walls/doors a clean. Close to surf beach but noisy road.
Very nice and comfortable stay, with an easy walk to the lagoon. The family enjoyed it and the kids wished we could stay longer. Good value for money.
Thank you very much for the stay.
The Mortimers.
We did not expect the Ritz but were still a bit disappointed. Curtains are tatty and need replacing. Front door window as well as the one above the bed have blankets hanging over them held up by bulldog clips! Garden was overgrown and lawns needed mowing. The road is very busy and noisy. House was clean and tidy.
Great, easy little bach to stay at. Had everything we needed in a very central to everything location. We had a lovely week in magical Mangawhai! Thanks đ
Thanks for a wonderful stay for my cousin and I! Everything was very easy, communication, facilities and everything you need for a breather away from the city. Great walking and close to the Heads shops and beach.
