Sophie's house exceeded our expectations. Pretty, charming and perfectly situated. the house was welcoming and met all of our needs. Sophie was a great host; she was responsive and helpful, and we would highly recommend this lovely "home away from home".
We stayed week and very much enjoyed this property. We woke to birdsong each morning and then had a short 5 minute walk to our choice of bakeries. Wonderful stay.
Very well located property a short walk from the centre of Sarlat. Very well equipped for self catering, very friendly owner.2 tiny suggestions:A clear sign at the top of the drive would make initially finding the wonderfully tucked away property easier.Clearer instructions on where to find the public bins.Overall a very enjoyable stay, and we would not hesitate to return.
Four minutes walk to the main square of Sarlat, and so quiet and peaceful. If you like eating out or just strolling around the town, you couldn't have a better location.
Lovely house, well equipped, in a fantastic location for Sarlat - 5 minutes walk into town yet quiet. Sophie was friendly and very helpful. Would stay again!
We had a fabulous stay in Sarlat at the Longere de Desmouret. Itâs a lovely, adorable, well-equipped cottage in a perfect location! Absolutely magical! We loved it and we will be back!!!
A wonderful location overlooking the medieval city. A short walk to the centre.
The nicest and best quipped property we've ever stayed in, spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated.
Sophie was on hand for any help or recommendations. Would throughly recommend this property.
Neil & Jackie.
We had a pleasant week. There is everything you need and more available in the house. 5 stars plus. We will come again to enjoy the house and town as the surroundings.
This is clearly a 5-star property both in a lovely removed, private setting yet mere steps from the old town. The cottage is lovingly crafted and very up to date.
I was sorry not to have a "welcome notebook" with a history of the property as that would have been entirely fascinating. And although we figured everything out, a "user's guide" attached to that notebook would have been helpful.
It is a spectacular property and was a joy to experience.
I can't add much to the other reviews for this property. The house is lovely and the location (2 minutes walk to centre) is great. Only problems was getting to the house but Sophie was excellent in helping us.
Sophieâs house was a perfect place for two couples. There was lots of space and it was well equipped. The location is great. It is a short walk to the centre of the town via a walking path. Although it is close to the city centre it feels very rural and is quiet. We had beautiful weather so we enjoyed eating breakfast and dinner out on the patio.
Sophieâs house was very pretty, extremely well equipped and spacious. It was only a short walk into the centre of Sarlat and there was plenty of outside space and garden furniture. It is little difficult to find as it is hidden down the driveway so a direction map would be useful. However, this did not detract from a wondeful stay. Highly recommended!!
Lovely property, very well equipped and clean. Five minute walk down steps and a path into the centre of Sarlat. Very convenient. Clearer instructions on how to locate the property would be helpful. Good parking down the steep driveway, best to reverse. Sophie answered any queries I had very quickly by email.
My husband and I spent 2 weeks in this spacious, well appointed home. It is a very short walk into town where there were numerous restaurants and markets. The two market days were perfect for providing us with good fresh foods and wines. The surrounding area is filled with small medieval villages to explore that are a short drive away. Sarlat is charming, well maintained and a perfect base to explore The Dordogne region. Sophie is a responsive host and has offered a charming home. This was our third trip to the french countryside and Sophie's cottage was by far our favorite rental. The outdoor terrace was ideal for watching the hot air balloons float by with a glass of french wine in hand.
A wonderful position right above the centre of Sarlat,, just five minutes walk down a little path.
The gite was beautifully clean and welcoming with everything one needs.
There are no hanging facilities in the second bedroom, not even a rail to hang a shirt on, and oddly enough, three of the lamps had no globes in them.
Sophie was helpful and welcoming and guided us to the house which is a bit hard to find.
A great place to stay when visiting lovely Sarlat.
We enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable and well located.
There were some mice running about and we did find droppings in the bed, although the house was otherwise very clean and well appointed.
We would have liked some coffee left in the cabinet at least for the first morning and the bedroom could use some hooks for clothes or coats. Otherwise it's well stocked with kitchenware etc.
We particularly enjoyed the outdoor seating area for coffee or wine and cheese. And it was a quick easy walk into town.
The owner was quick to answer my questions and easy to work with.
Storybook house overlooking the rooftops of Sarlat
We loved staying in this charming house. In peak season its location a bit up and away from the hub of activity would be greatly appreciated as the only noises we heard were a bit of rain and birds singing. A ten minute walk to town with a darling terrasse both front and back. The beamed ceilings and all of the furnishings have so much character! Sophie was lovely and gave us a list of suggested restaurants in the area. Giving the house a name (such as Reve de Sophie) would make it easier to find it initially as there is no house number. It is just above Parking DesMourets. We highly recommend it!!
We returned to this lovely property after two fantastic weeks last year, and had another amazing two weeks. The location is indeed literally five minutes from the centre of Sarlat, great for getting breakfast croissants and pains au chocolat from the market. The kitchen is excellently equipped compared to the average holiday let, which was great for making meals when not eating out. The house is surprisingly roomy, and was great for our family of four with 16 and 14yr old boys. Sarlat is a perfect location for a holiday - swimming and kayaking/canoeing nearby on the Vezere (gorgeous!) and Dordogne (equally gorgeous but more people) were particularly great in the heat. Sophie was a fantastic, helpful and friendly host once again. Merci beacoup!
We were a little late getting to the property and Sophie tried to explain the various things we needed to know including the WiFi, the washer and dryer and how to lock the door. The later turned out to be a little problematic for (our issue) and when we called two days later, Sophie asked her mom to come over and explain it to us again. It was a simple solution! The house itself is beautiful and very clean. We would recommend this property!
We are on an extended vacation in France during May. We have stayed in several great VRBOs along the way, the the property in Sarlat is head and shoulders above the rest.
Sarlat is a beautiful medieval town with a thriving old town center with shops, restaurants, brasseries, and wonderful fresh bread, cheese, and vegetables. The problem is that parking in town is a nightmare. When we first came to Sarlat, before we could get into the VRBO property, we had to park about a 20 minute downhill walk from city center. That was OK but the 40 minute walk uphill was really difficult.
The VRBO property has its own parking spot (if your brave enough to back down the driveway) but is only a short walk down to city center.
It was like stying in our own little French villa. The house is immaculate and very beautifully appointed. It has a good-sized kitchen and two big bedrooms.
I rate this property as one of the top VRBO properties at which Iâve ever stayed. Very highly recommend this one.
This gorgeous cottage is Peaceful, bucolic, and close to everything including just steps from the beautifully preserved village of SarlatSophie has exceptional taste in decor and provided everything you could possibly need, including washer and dryer, plenty of towels, dinnerware, table linens and even spices. We spent much of our time on the beautiful patio, and also visited local prehistoric cave art, took a cruise on the Dordogne River, and rode bicycles on a scenic paved trail in Sarlat. Sophie is the âhostess with the mostestâWe would return in a heartbeat!!
Lovely property, well equipped. Location close to centre was great and meant we coulde easily access the restaurants, shops and market. Excellent stay.
