It feels like home when we get to the Cottage. We feel the outside world instantly melt away. Lori and her family go out of their way to make sure that their guests have everything that they need so that the vacationing can commence right away. This was our fourth stay at the Cottage but the first at this time of year. We dream about the view from the River room between visits. There were ospreys all over this time and a resident pair was repairing their nest that is right next to the dock. This was new to us because the ospreys are usually gone when we come in the Fall when multiple eagles move into the area. We fished and crabbed most days and fished a few nights. The dock is lighted with lights pointing at the water for night fishing. There were dragonflies around during the day and lightning bugs at night. We also saw dolphins and a loggerhead turtle right off the dock. Nature abounds here. At night, we fell right asleep in the comfy master bed. It is just the two of us Seniors and we enjoyed watching the sunrise and sunset almost every day and evening. This is such a special place and Lori and her family are very generous to share their home. We are already counting down to our next visit in a few months. What are you waiting for? This VRBO does not disappoint!
We had another great vacation at the Cottage. There have been some great changes since last year. There is a new very comfy couch in the living room. There is a new TV in the master bedroom and the internet is much better than previous visits. There is also a new washer/dryer. There are also changes that are not visible like the new plumbing throughout the home. Lori and Dave are constantly improving the property and obviously strive to give their guests the best possible experience. It is so peaceful here. The Rivah room is such a magical place to watch the eagles, blue herons, and bluebirds as well as the crabbers, sailboats, sunrises, the stars, and the Potomac. Tropical Storm Ophelia came and lingered for several days during our stay. The dock at the Cottage stood strong and undamaged because Lori and Dave had their dock redone and raised a few years ago. The wind howled and it rained a lot but we were snug, warm, and happy in our nest. The crabbing and fishing this year were really great. We caught puppy drum, rockfish, sea trout, croakers, spot, and lots of crabs with the 2 provided traps. Lori is a great communicator and we kept in touch during our stay. Thank you so much for our special welcome and for sharing your home with us. This is truly our happy place to relax and get away from it all.
I really enjoyed this vacation. We caught over a bushel of crabs (keepers) across the week. The fishing was pretty good. We caught a little of everything. Unfortunately there was a decent amount of sting rays, but it was fun to reel them in too. On our last full day we found a very friendly and experienced charter boat captain right down the street so we finished the week with a whooping 28 Spanish Mackerel (36 inches was the largest) and 1 blue fish.
We ran into some plumbing issues during our stay but Lori promptly addressed it. The sun room was the highlight of the entire house. When we werenât on the pier, we were relaxing there enjoying the view. A friendly neighbor even brought us his surplus cucumbers and tomatoes from his garden. Weâll definitely be coming back.
My family spent a week fishing and crabbing at the Rivah house and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The view of the river is second to none and the dock provided us with enough activities to keep us all busy. We would definitely return given the opportunity
Beautiful waterfront - relaxing, and fun! Wonderful accommodations- immaculate home with well stocked kitchen-cookware/dishes/utensils/crab pots for steaming and required accessories, games, pier, fishing poles, crab pots off pier for catching crabs, grill, small beach for swimming, friendly community along the water-we went for walks, and dog friendly. Our family had a great time. Thanks so much!
The cottage was perfect! Very quiet and relaxing and included everything we needed and more. Caught a few fish and enough crabs for a couple of dinners. We hope to come back again.
This was our 3rd stay at this amazing home. Can't say enough positive things about the property, the cleanliness, and the owners. We took our dogs for their first trip, and they had a blast. Highly recommend and can't wait to rent again!
Rented this property for our family to spend Christmas together. We throughly enjoyed it. Awesome views of the beautiful water. One of the most, if not the most beautiful view, we have ever seen. We are definitely considering this place again for next Christmas. Absolutely loved it. Thanks
This is our favorite VRBO place of all time. We had another great stay. Last year we stayed for 2 weeks and we were glad that we decided to visit for 3 weeks this time because the extra time left us feeling so relaxed and content. Although the remnants of Hurricane Ian hung around with gale winds and rain for a good part of a week, we were cozy in the house and we enjoyed watching the wind and waves along with watching the eagles and heron pair venture out when there was a lull in the weather. Before the weather turned, we caught a small rockfish, 6 Taylor Blues that were around 16 to 18 inches long, many croakers, and a flounder. Although the crabbing was a little off this year, we caught a total of about 40 keeper crabs over the 3 weeks which allowed us to have crab cakes twice and crab salad once along with crab claw appetizers. We call the view from the Rivah Room, our home theater because there is always a show outside. From the eagles to the bluebirds to the fish jumping or sailboats coming by, there is always something to see outside. On clear nights, we sat outside on the new seating set on the deck and we watched the stars. We had the pleasure of meeting Loriâs husband Dave and Loriâs Father, Ken this time. Ken is a master fisherman and he gave us some tips. It is always a pleasure to communicate with Lori. She is clearly focused on giving her guests the best possible experience. The dock was redone since last year and the dock is a little higher and the boat lift has been removed which gives one a better view of the Potomac. There is a new refrigerator which seems much roomier inside than the old one. The master king sized bed is still very comfy and the mattress is only a few years new. Although it is just us two retired folks in the house, I can see that the home and grounds are roomy enough for a larger group. What are you waiting for? This is going to be your new happy place too.
Very good place for peace and quiet to good fishing and just to relax . The kitchen had what you needed two living room one with entertainment and one to relax and watch the water back deck was nice to relax on good place for pets. Fishing deck was ready for fishing pole holders prep table with water lights . It would be a place I would love to go back to
My husband, my parents and my three teenage sons all loved the Rivah house. The views from the front a River room are just breathtaking. There was plenty of room for us to all to comfortably cohabitate and spread out. The sunrises and sunsets were so gorgeous. My father and 13 years old barely left the dock and spent the whole time fishing. The poles and crab pot are right there at the house. There was also a croquet set that we used and a kayak with paddles and life jackets. We loved everything about the house except there wasn't any space in the cupboards to put our food in them so the counter was really cluttered, but that was a very minor detail. We cooked all our meals at the house since there is really nothing around to do or any great places to eat. This is an excellent and beautiful spot if you are looking to just relax and get away from it all. We did drive to Williamsburg the one day (About 1 hour and 45 minutes each way) just for something to do. Also of note is that we went on late August and there were a lot of Jellyfish which kept us out of the water for a few days, but some days there weren't to many and we did swim from the little sandy beach. There were even dolphins the one morning! We really enjoyed it and this is an amazing and friendly host. You won't regret going here. Loved it.
The property was just as shown, a beautiful dock was perfect for our 2 young boys to catch a ton of little fish off of. The property was clean and had wonderful views. We will def. Back!
We originally purchased the home for weekend get a ways. The property offers wonderful views, big water fishing in a tranquil setting. You are not far from town if you would like to enjoy a meal out. The kitchen is fully stocked with kitchen equipment and there is a washer and dryer available. Should you want to bring your boat you may use the community dock to put in. We recommend you do not miss the beautiful sunsets and evening fishing is one of our favorite activities. We are pet friendly. We know our dogs love to swim in the river and there is access to a beach at the edge of the property. We do ask that you rinse your pet off prior to them coming in the house an cover the sofa's should they decide to make themselves comfortable on them.
