The apartment is nice, although the smell of mold in the bathroom is overpowering. One of the bedroom has some mildew on the wall.Outside of the building is very noise at night due to the restaurants on the street level.
We were informed the night before we arrived that there was mould on the ceiling of the bathroom due to rain the days before and we were offered a discount to stay as they were unable to accommodate us elsewhere. We were happy to accept this. The apartment is in a very old part of the city which has narrow streets and unfortunately for us there were a lot of bars, restaurants and clubs all along our street and the one behind. This meant there was incredibly loud singing, shouting and music until 5am every night which meant we got very little sleep during our whole holiday. Also the smell from the bathroom drains was really bad, we had to keep windows wide open day and night to try to alleviate the smell. Apart from the noise, mould and smell the apartment was okay. We loved Lisbon but wouldnât recommend this apartment unless you want to party until 5/6am every night and have no sense of smell.

A tad unhappy
We are in our 60s. We are new to Portugal. We are new to Lisbon. I understand that the flat is situated on the top floor of a terraced house in a historic area, and so the stairs up to it are long and steep. Handrail only in part. A real mission to drag your heavy luggage up and down, and dangerous. And that it is situated in a popular central area of the city. And that there is no contingency for a fire escape - the windows are too small. The nightly partying and loud drunken celebrations, meant we had to abandon the bedrooms and retreat to the kitchen diner to sleep on the sofa bed to muffle the noise. That worked. The flat itself was nice, clean and well appointed. But the electrics cut out, overloaded by two ac and a dishwasher, âbecause itâs an old buildingâ. And the bathroom constantly smelt of sewage, âbecause itâs an old buildingâ. It is cruel not to provide sufficient information when marketing this so we can make an informed choice. Then treat us as if we were the problem. Surely, a safe, adequately power supplied, none smelly flat with reasonable access and adequate sound proofing is an acceptable expectation? Apparently itâs not.
It was a complicated process from the start- we got keys from one location then had to walk up a hill and up 3 flights of stairs to the apartment. Apartment itself is in an old and dirty building. The apartment has basic amenities but has a lingering sewage smell and rooftops visible through the window clearly have never been cleaned (cigarette butts and old laundry everywhere). There are ACs but if you use multiple electricity will go out as we discovered on our first day. Will not stay with this company again
There is a lot of nuance to this 2 star rating, so please read all of it⊠this place is party central. If you come for that, the location is perfect! The place rocks right in front of your windows. And Mannyâs Place is fabulous! The food is great, the people wonderful, and stay for the drag show. It is total fun.
So, why 2 stars? Because no matter how much we tried to love it, it is just not great. Nice shower, and then the handle just falls down. Hard to stick it back up. No toilet roll holder or hooks in the bathroom and if you leave the door closed it smells like sewer. The washer leaks (we think). The cooktop was good, as is the aircon. And then there is the party⊠the bass goes through the whole building, till 2 or 3 am. So if you stay here, make sure you join the party, and I would look for a different apartment in the same area.
Oh and check in: it is off site, which is common. Just super annoying that with 5 or 6 groups lining up, 3 of the personnel vanished conveniently out of sight. Just one person helping. Also, they ask for any remainder in cash. Really? To be fair, after me frowning, she reluctantly offered to charge my card on file.
So, that is why we gave it 2 stars, despite a fun evening at Mannyâs PlaceâŠ
The check-in process was a big pain in the butt. We dropped off our bags with one of our friends stayed near the apartment and walked 15 mins down the hill to check in where they told us that we had to have cash to complete the city tax about $17. We walked to the ATM and when we came back she said she also needed cash for the rest of the rental which combined was over $200. Only after we complained she asked her boss who was able to charge both to the credit card we had on file. Took over an hour to check in because of this.
Apartment was really nice. It does have tiny steep stairs going up to it and within the apartment. No elevator. But it does have a washer and full kitchen. Two awesome bedrooms, full closet, nice shower, AC. No dryer so either bring clothespins for hanging or just put it on the giant rack in the closet like we did
