The issue I had was getting to and from the property, at all times. I could not come and go during evening hours because the property is so difficult to find in the day time, let alone after dark. Roads are poorly marked in that rural area and there is no signage to help guide that related to the property. It's a simple fix but not a single sign to help locate the property. Once there, it is a lovely property but maybe as a single female traveler I would be more thoughtful about access for future bookings.
We enjoyed our stay at the Sloping Porch. The host was attentive, the cottage was clean, and it was in a beautiful, peaceful setting. The location was perfect and just15 min to town.
Very beautiful, relaxing and enjoyable place. Highly recommended. June and Jim, the owners very friendly and nice people,We are planning to comeback this year for another vacation.
It was disappointing that the alpacas had been relocated. Otherwise, the property was very serene and lent itself to a wonderful place for inner reflection. Rooms were immaculate. June and Jim were so cordial. I would like to return.
The cottage and grounds were amazing! Jun was there to greet us when we arrived and walked us through the cottage and explained the farm. We were disappointed that the alpacas were no longer there but were please that they had been donated to an organization that helps autistic children. We booked this property for our trip to the Taos area because we wanted to experience how well adobe construction maintained the inside temperature. Even though there is no air conditioning, the cottage was always very comfortable inside while it was in the high 80s outside. On each morning, we were greeted by a hummingbird hovering above the onsite pond, along with wild ducks and an owl calling. This cottage is very close to both the city of Taos and Taos Ski Valley and would make and excellent place to stay to access either one.
Beautiful location. The Sloping Porch is a small adobe structure that had everything we needed. It was nicely decorated with 3 separate outdoor porch sitting areas to enjoy the scenery. The hosts were helpful and kind. We would stay again.
This house is on a beautiful property on both a stream and a pond. We enjoyed sitting outside in the evening and watching the fish jump. The house is made of thick adobe and stayed cool even on hot days. The owners are friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful stay!
As others have said, the pictures dont do it justice. We so enjoyed just resting and relaxing on this beautiful, well landscaped property. Jun and Jim were so accommodating. We were celebrating our 60th Anniversary and are so happy we found this secluded jewel.
The second visit to this little piece of heaven did not disappoint! It's the perfect setting with the perfect hosts, and perfect accommodations for two adults.
This property is nestled down in a valley of trees and absolute tranquility. A small river runs along the edge of the property and a pond is just outside the door. The quietness of the house is only one of its many charms. While the bed was a bit firmer than we like, the quaint and rustic settings more than made up for it. Would truly stay here many times over!
The Sloping Porch sits on a 13+ acre ranch alongside the Rio Hondo (which in early October was pretty quiet). The house is a good size and the two of us were very comfortable there. The hosts, June and Jim, have lived on this property for 30 years and have really made it something special and are lovely people. Jim is also quite creative and has made so many great sculptures around the property, plus he built the Treehouse that is also for rent!
Youâre only 10 mins or so from Taos (though current road construction can stretch that a bit). We LOVED being there and look forward to returning someday soon!
Jim and June Greathouse moved to the Taos area from South West Kansas for health reasons so Jim could pursue his metal art sculpture and Jun could practice holistic medicine.
The guest cottage has just been newly remodeled and redecorated. We are located 6 miles from the north side of Taos and at the base of Ski Mountain. 8 scenic miles to the lifts.
