Great location, communicative management company. AC is disconnected. Cleanliness is mid. The shower and the oven were broken. Overall it was good, just fix the broken amenities and unlock the AC during the summer.
2025 looked VERY different than 2024 in this home, sadly!
We brought our kids (6) and granddaughters (2) to Catalina again, as we did last summer. The house is very run down & dirty since last year; the floors, the carpets, the bedding is old (flat pillows are horrible) and mattress covers unclean! Sadly, we had no possibility to keep our windows & blinds open, letting the sun in, during the day because of the heavy construction happening all day long on Tremont, which is the street the back of the house sits on, the patio side. The loudness of the machinery frightened our 2.5 year young granddaughter. ;( We booked this vacation on Jan. 27, 2025. There was no mention of any construction happening in the window of time we booked: June 7-12th, 2025. Believe me, we would have not booked at this home, had it been told to us. In the months we paid for the trip, there was no mention of the work being done, streets torn up!I feel this is very misleading and dishonest to all who want to come to Catalina and relax, rest, find peace for our hard working kids! I am posting this so that other families can know that besides the construction, the home is rundown and not cared for .....before they book this home. BTW- I did attempt to talk with the management company, but they cut me off, saying a statement of construction happening was posted on the details of the house on the VRBO site today. I recommend for the balance of the construction time, they let everyone interested in a "family vacation" know in a very direct way. And, clean!
Disappointing Stay â Unclean, Noisy, and Poorly Managed
We stayed at this home over Motherâs Day weekend and were really excited to share Catalina with family. While the location is walkable and close to shops, our experience in the home itself left a lot to be desired. The home was not thoroughly cleaned before our arrival. An upstairs sink was clogged and unusable, the bathtub had mold and hair, and the toilet showed visible stains. It was disappointing to find these issues upon check-in, and it impacted our comfort during the stay. A metal shot glass was also found inside the garbage disposal, which we had to remove ourselves. The dishwasher was broken and while a repair was offered, it would have disrupted our short vacation. The house is located on a very busy street in Avalon, and we experienced near-constant golf cart and emergency vehicle traffic at night, which made it difficult to sleep. Streetlights shine directly through the windows, and there were no blackout curtains to help with noise or brightness. With a group of nine, we were also surprised at the limited basic suppliesâonly two extra rolls of toilet paper were provided, and there were no dish towels. These are small things that made a noticeable difference. We did contact the rental company and were issued a partial refund. While we appreciated the gesture, we expected a higher standard for the rate we paid. This property has potential, but it needs better cleaning protocols, maintenance checks, and guest comfort considerations to be worth recommending.
