Stunning 18th Century Provencal home with large mature secluded garden and pool.
La Canal is a beautiful large bastide, built in 1760. Its thick walls keep the house cool during the hot summer months. The house has been restored to a high standard, by its designer owner, to give great comfort and space for 12 people. There is a huge terrace in front of the house, shaded by ancient mulberry trees, from which one has splendid views to the distant Maures. You can walk through the mature walled 2 1/2 acre garden and wild flower meadow straight into the village, no driving to all those lovely restaurants! The magnificent 14 metre salt water pool is tucked away in a secluded part of the garden. Ample secure parking is provided with electric gates at the entrance.

House in stunning setting with salt water pool
This was our sixth time staying with our large family and friends in this gorgeous rambling house. It is our favourite place to stay every time we visit France and we have already booked La Canal again for this year.
It is just perfect, comfortable beds, good bathrooms, a large private garden where we spend a good deal of time relaxing in one of the several shady spots with loungers and tables or around the well maintained salt water pool. We adore cooking in the very charming and well set up kitchen. The village is literally only few hundred feet away for picking up those fresh croissants for breakfast and visiting the two fantastic markets there each each. Most meals are eaten outside under the Mulberry trees. Heaven!! Nicola is the perfect host and always makes sure that everything is as it should be. Very highly recommended. A big thank you to Nicoala, as always!!!

Elegant and authentic Provençal home-from-home
We have stayed at La Canal on many occasions, but this was the first time during the month of September. It turned out to be a great time of the year with the evenings cooler but the days still lovely and warm enough to swim in the wonderful huge pool.
We were invited on several occasions to join Nicola and her welcoming friends on local hikes. How fantastic and varied the local countryside is for walking, including the beautiful coastal path where we all swam in the sea to cool off!
La Canal is a wonderful old house with very spacious bedrooms and a large well-tended and much-loved garden. Nicola is a very keen gardener and now grows her own organic fruit and vegetables which may find their way to your table…
I can’t wait for my next trip later this year!

Fantastic Family Holiday & Great Location
Our family, a group of 6 adults and 4 children stayed at La Canal in mid August 2018 and had a wonderful holiday. The house is very spacious and well appointed, with a charming and relaxed French farm house feel, surrounded by a huge 2 acre garden that creates a real sense of space and privacy. There is a large pool which the kids loved, and kept them occupied most days as they spent hours splashing around in it ! In the evening there is a lovely graveled courtyard area in front of the house that is shrouded by mulberry trees which makes it a great place to sit outside for family BBQ's, relax and enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine ! The house is in a great location relative to the town, and you are 5 mins walk from the heart of the town, where there are plenty of places to eat, drink and pick up fresh bread and groceries. While we were there the town held 2 markets (food and arts/crafts), and on Friday night had a live cover band playing in the main street where families of all ages danced and enjoyed the evening. The house is also well positioned to do some local sightseeing, and we spent a day down in St Tropez (35 miles), and an afternoon swimming in lake near the stunning Gorges du Verdon (20 miles). Nicola, thank you for being a wonderful host and for letting us share this beautiful house for a week - we had a fabulous holiday and would highly recommend it !!

Idyllic house in beautiful village!
Our family of 3 generations aged 9 to 70 spent 2 weeks in this beautiful property. The characterful house was immaculately clean and well equipped with enough space for all 12 of us to spend time together and retreat to our separate spaces. The children loved playing in the private, enclosed grounds and enormous swimming pool and we had lovely evenings eating our dinner under the Mulberry trees and playing boules. The village of Lorgues is situated right outside the gate to the property and has several cafes and restaurants, 2 supermarkets, a cinema and a fabulous weekly market! The best market that we have found in France! While we could have happily spent the entire 2 weeks in the house and village, having travelled all the way from Australia we felt compelled to explore the region. Our favourite day trips from the house included the Verdon Gorge where we swam and kayaked in the picturesque lake, a ferry ride from St.Maxime to St. Tropez, a boat trip from Cassis to swim in the amazing Calanques, a day trip to Monaco to visit the fantastic Musee Oceanographic and a lovely day trip to the quaint Italian village of Dolceaqua.
Nicola was a lovely host who was incredibly helpful without being intrusive and her local knowledge was indispensable. Thank you Nicola,we have many wonderful memories from our stay and hope to return soon!

Beautiful villa on the outskirts of Lourdes
Thank you Nicola for a really wonderful stay with you in your beautiful house on the edge of Lorgues.
We were a group of 16 with 8 adults and 8 children ranging in age from 1 - 7years. When we arrived there had been a confusion over the numbers in our group and we were more than expected. Nicola was really good in dealing with that and quickly set up some extra beds for the children. The house has an unusual lay-out so that some bedrooms can only be accessed by passing through others on each floor. We did not find this a problem however and the rooms themselves were all spacious and full of beautiful things collected during travels over the years which really made the house feel homely.
The pool area is stunning and our kids loved spending hours each day playing in the water. We all loved eating under the mulberry trees and watching meteor showers at night. The house is tricky to find at first but once you know it, it is very convenient and lovely to be able to stroll into town to buy croissants or for an evening meal.
Nicola was a great host, living on site in a separate wing of the house - there to answer any questions and help if needed but never intrusive. She took care to suggest great days out, places to eat, help with anything, and was really welcoming to so many kids about the place!

Perfect Provencal Villa! Private yet near all!
We spent a week at Nicola's and had an ideal Provencal vacation. Completely private, set within gorgeously landscaped grounds, and yet town (bakeries, markets, restaurants) is right outside the wall. The villa itself is lovely and the bedrooms comfortable and tastefully decorated. We loved having dinner outside under the mulberry trees and lounging by the pretty pool after a morning trip. Lorgues is nicely situated to get to something fantastic in any direction (coast, lavender, gorge) while surrounded by lovely picturesque villages nearby. Nicola couldn't have been a better host - there, if needed, to help make reservations, give advice, or loan maps and market baskets! We stayed a week and are eager to return.

Super spot for our multi-generation holiday
This traditional bastide was an ideal holiday location for our multi-generation family. It is based in extensive and completely secure gardens with plenty of parking space and just a short walk into the centre of bustling Lorgues. Patisseries, ice-cream shops, cafes, pharmacists and clothes shops are all accessible on foot and it is just a short car trip for a supermarket shop if required.
The salt water swimming pool is large and there are plenty of sun loungers, mattresses, umbrellas and olive trees for shade. Swimming towels are provided for all in addition to bath towels which is really helpful. A full size table-tennis table, together with a set of boules, plenty of children's videos and a stack of holiday reads kept us all busy. If you are a keen cook you won't be disappointed. Not only is there a massive collection of cook books but, unusually, there is a very comprehensive set of kitchen tools, gorgeous pottery serving dishes and copious amounts of dishwasher friendly crockery. There are two full size fridges with freezers and a gas bbq.
The bastide itself is a handsome building. All the rooms are spacious with fully functioning shutters. There are fans in all the bedrooms. Decoration is simple with tiled floors and eye-catching textiles and pictures throughout. The kitchen was too small for 8 of us to eat in but this was not an issue as the main table outside had seating for 12. At lunchtimes we ate under the shade of ancient mulberry trees and in the evening we moved the table so that we could watch the striking starry skies and views out to the mountains. As well as the main table there were three other tables and sets of chairs, so we were spoilt for choice for drinking areas.
Running through the property features omits the key ingredient for our wonderful holiday and that was Nicola herself. Right from the start, she was helpful, informative and utterly charming. Nothing was too much trouble. All our queries were addressed fully and promptly. Her extensive regional knowledge makes her a wonderful source of information and she is generous with her time and ideas. A very big thank you from us all - we have had the most wonderful stay.

Unsatisfactory
This is a lovely setting but overpriced for the lack of upkeep. The drainage left a lot to be desired resulting in Smelly sinks and toilets. We had to run the showers and taps for 15-20 minutes before any warm water came through in most bathrooms. I had one warm, one tepid shower during the week and the rest were cold. I did not want to waste precision water and neither did the others. There are loose tiles on the floors. Having said that eating out under the mulberry bushes was lovely and the pool is great too. The village is mediaevil, quaint and interesting. The patio area is appealing.

Another lovely stay - this time with our children!
Yet again, this was another wonderful stay at La Canal. We have stayed here in 2010 and 2012, and this time we returned with our children.
We had a lovely relaxing week by the gorgeous pool, watching our children play in the garden and eating delicious food under the mulberry trees. Afternoons were spent wandering to the village for icecream (for the kids) and rose (for the adults)!
We can't wait to come back again... we have already booked for next year!

Beautiful home and location for family reunion
We are an American family living in Switzerland who were in charge of organizing a family reunion in France for our American relatives who had several demands to be met. La Canal met all of them and more. It was the perfect place for our motley crew of 13 people (8 adults and 5 children) spanning three generations.
Nicola’s home is beautiful – large bedrooms, plenty of bathrooms, well-equipped kitchen, great BBQ grill, lots of books to browse through, and the artwork from her travels is fascinating. The weather was ideal during our one week stay and we ate every meal – breakfast, lunch and dinner – outside under the lovely shade of the trees.
The large expansive garden makes you feel as if you are out in the country side, far removed from hustle and bustle of touristy locations. The kids loved playing and running around the grounds – and it was ideal for games of hide and seek and various obstacle courses, races and sport competitions we organized in the spirit of the recently held Rio Olympics.
We swam and relaxed in the beautiful salt water pool for long periods every day. The surrounding olive trees provided lots of shade, if needed. There were plenty of lounge chairs, cushions and towels for all – marvelously well-equipped.
Lorgues is a gem of a town – a good choice of restaurants, two great markets a week, and provides easy access to the Haute Villages route, Nice and St. Tropez. Every morning, whomever woke up first would walk 5 minutes to the local boulangerie (bakery) to get fresh pains, croissants and pains au chocolat for breakfast.
We will certainly be back to La Canal for future holidays. Our only regret was that we stayed one week when it should have been two weeks! Thank you, Nicola, for sharing your lovely and welcoming home.

Impressive house in beautifully kept grounds
We used to stay with Nicola when she ran La Canal as a stylish B&B a decade or more ago. Having got to know her and her delightful children, who are now fully fledged adults, we knew renting the entire house would be wonderful. We were not disappointed.
We stayed at La Canal for two weeks with our teenage children and another family of four. We all enjoyed double bedrooms with ensuite facilities fitted out with antiques and artworks from Nicola's travels. The house has been lovingly and sympathetically restored.
The long garden is a joy - beautifully planted and maintained and as for the swimming pool....take our word for it: it is simply the best. Decked and paved surrounds with olive trees to give shade, the pool is salt water and large enough to enjoy swimming lengths and games of volleyball.
We cooked at home most days eating out in the beautiful gardens and brought delicious local ingredients back from the provencal market that visits Lorgues twice a week. We regularly made the 45 minute drive to Lac St Croix where we swam and floated for hours in crystal clear water and often enjoyed an entire beach area to ourselves. The beaches near St Tropez are also easily accessible, approximately 50 minutes drive - get up early and be the first on the beach to avoid parking issues and then stop for a refreshing cold drink on the return journey in the beautiful hilltop village of Grimaud. It was a treat to be able to enjoy the lively and sometimes crazy atmosphere of St Tropez and be able to escape home to the most beautiful house and pool under an hour's drive away from the warm mediterranean sea.
Lorgues is a real town with real people drinking and eating out. We like it very much and enjoyed the many boulangeries and cafes serving excellent croissants and cafe cremes in the morning. The town is a short 5 minute stroll from La Canal.
Nicola is a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome. She has become a good friend over the years and having stayed at La Canal for two weeks this summer, it really felt like home. Leaving at the end of the holiday was very hard and we now long to return for another sublime holiday. La Canal is perfect and I would not hesitate to recommend it to friends or relatives.

Lovely family retreat
For the third time we spent our summer holiday in this lovely house, La Canal in Lorgues. The house has spacious comfortable clean rooms and is well equipped. We have student children who basically want to escape from their hectic life and they love to come to La Canal and bring their friends over.
Together we spend many hours dining and talking under the shade of the mulberry trees. The pool is very large and great. The garden is spacious and the village is just around the corner for shopping, a coffee or restaurants. The setting suits us perfectly, although we are with 10 to 12 people, everyone can do as they please. Relax at the pool, walk into town, read a book under the trees or discuss the worlds problems while enjoying a glass of wine without disturbing each other. The coast , Sainte Maxime, is 45 minutes drive but we tend to spend most of our time on the premises. The owner, Nicola, is very friendly and helpful and has become a friend ! We will come back to La Canal for sure and can highly recommend this lovely retreat!

Wonderful and memorable.
In June 2014, my family and I enjoyed a wonderful stay in La Canal.
The house is situated within a few minutes walk of Lorgues and yet very private and secluded as it is set back within a large garden and accessed via a gate at the main entrance. The bedrooms are spacious with en suite bathrooms and have been tastefully furnished to a high standard with comfortable beds. The kitchen has everything you could wish, from plenty of utensils to a good selection of crockery. The local shops and weekly market are within walking distance and we enjoyed sitting under the mulberry trees of La Canal enjoying our meals and rose wine. The pool area was delightful with towels provided. Lorgues and nearby villages were delightful with good restaurants.
Nicola, who was at hand nearby, was welcoming, helpful and friendly. During our stay, our son was married in a nearby chateau and what with our stay in La Canal, our holiday was made especially memorable. We hope to return as the rose wine does not taste quite the same in Swansea!

A Magic Place to Stay
Our group of 12 including family and friends travelled to Lorgue for a week and didn't want to leave. Nicola welcomed us on arrival and we quickly settled into this magnificent old home. The bedrooms were spacious with comfy beds and modern bathrooms. The kitchen was well equipped and there was also a BBQ outdoors. Every morning we had breakfast on the terrace under the mulberry trees. From this peaceful garden surround it was a 5 min walk into the village to enjoy cafes, bakeries, restaurants, bars, specialty shops and on Tuesday a huge market filled the central streets. Our large pool was always popular for a relaxing swim after visiting local wineries or walking in the hills.
I would encourage everyone to find time to enjoy a special holiday here at La Canal

Beautiful La Bastide
La Bastide is a wonderful house with its own walled grounds and swimming pool. The house is immaculately maintained and Lorgues is within 5-10 minutes walking distance. We have spent several family holidays here and are due to return again next year. The area of the Haut-Var is full of interest - plenty can be accessed by foot or public transport, although a car is probably necessary to explore attractions such as the Gorge de Verdon. I would thoroughly recommend this holiday rental.

A perfect week in La Canal
We will never forget our first view of La Canal through the beautiful wrought iron gates. The pathway to the house , with its pretty blue shutters and mulberry trees in front. is lined with lavender and the garden is just gorgeous with lavender everywhere -filling the air with its scent when anyone brushes against it. We loved the fact that we had to walk down this path every time we went to the charming town of Lorgues for provisions. What a great find and what a good decision it turned out to be. La Canal was perfect for our needs with six bedrooms and four good bathrooms, a well equipped kitchen, a laundry and even Wi-Fi was available. The kitchen opened onto a very charming area of the garden with plenty of outdoor seating for reading and relaxing. The pool area was very pretty and well maintained, with towels provided by Nicola, lots of recliners, large sun umbrellas and a decent sized salt water pool. No chlorine! It was secluded and separated from the main garden by an attractive stone wall. There was a table tennis for the energetic and an outdoor fridge and BBQ which was very handy.
We had great fun buying the local produce and cooking up a storm in the kitchen and had a marvellous day at the famous Tuesday market in Lorgues where everything from clothes to food was sold. We dined at La Canal every night under the mulberry trees – and could not even tear ourselves away for just one night! The food we prepared each evening was so superb that we even cancelled a booking that we had made at a Michelin starred restaurant in Lorgues!! We knew that nothing could compare to the beautiful setting, ambience and food at La Canal.
The week flew by with lazy hours by the lovely pool area or under the shade of the mulberry trees in one of the comfy garden chairs. There was plenty of space for everyone, inside and out and not once did we feel we ‘needed to get away’ for a bit of peace and quiet! We went for walks to beautiful Chateau de Berne and visits to nearby villages and Thoronet Abbey. Another stand out experience was our superb lunch at Florian’s Restaurant (alias Kiss the Chef) in a quiet little corner of Lorgues – don’t miss it!! Not only is the food excellent but Flores and his father are a pleasure to meet!
If you are looking for a relaxing and beautiful place to stay, in an absolutely gorgeous area of France, don’t hesitate. This is it! We are returning and can’t wait. Thank you Nicola, for a wonderful holiday.

Beautiful house and garden in superb location
We were six couples in the sixties who had a wonderful week in La Canal in Lorgues. When we arrived we were greeted at the gate of a very nice lady (Nicola) who welcomed us to La Canal.
We had hired two buses, and road into La Canal was just as broad as it had to be. When we had parked the cars and the baggage was in the house, Nicola gave us a full briefing on all facilities in the house. It was according to the description.
The kitchen had all the equipment we could wish for and everything was clean and well maintained.
The bedrooms were large and beds comfort. Everything about the house met or exceeded our expectations.
Outdoor facilities are still the best. Great pool with furniture and cushions, outdoor dining furniture, BBC, garden, mulberry trees with ripe fruit, everything was great.
La Canal is a great place if you want to explore the beautiful Provence or enjoy your time in peaceful surroundings.
We would highly recommend La Canal as a place to stay for a week or more.

Delightful holiday home
This was a fantastic place to stay for our short holiday. We stayed for four nights and wished we could have stayed longer!
A group of 10 of us stayed at La Canal in September. It is on the doorstep of a charming village. Set in large grounds, you feel you are in the middle of the countryside, yet within 10 minutes you are in the heart of the village.
Nicola was there to make sure everything we needed was provided for and to recommend restaurants and attractions, but for the most part we felt we had the amazing house to ourselves.
The house itself is gorgeous. Inside, it is comfortable, clean and well maintained. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfy. The kitchen has everything you need to cook up a feast. But the best part of the house is the outdoor facilities... gorgeous pool, BBQ, outdoor dining furniture, poolside loungers + cushions, even table tennis!
We would highly recommend La Canel as a place to stay for a week, a month...or more

An unspoiled Gem in Lorgues
A beautiful, spacious Provencals property at walking distance from town; owner kept its antique character allover the house. New bathrooms (2) are very comfortable, while the kitchen is a delight for those who love cooking with plenty of utensils and hardware. The many places to sit down outside under the mulberry trees add charm. The big salt water pool with its many chaises is the finishing touch!

Our party of 12, 6 adults and 6 children found the accomodations excellent. In addition, we went several places our host recommended and found each to be exceptional. Everything about the house and the village either met or exceeded our expectations. If we were to return to this regions of France on vacation we would seek to rent this hounse again.

Beautiful house in superb location
Le Canal is ideally situated just a short walk from the main town square of Lorgues, the walk is through a glorious large garden, that makes you feel like you are in both town and country at the same time. The house itself is superbly equipped, and has enough room for even the biggest family to find their own space. Everything is provided, and the thoughtful owner is on hand to provide local tips, help with hirings and bookings, fire up the internet for you, even get your first shop, and then she disappears to let you enjoy the complete peace and quiet.
It is a great place to stay and every family member in our party-ranging from nine year olds up to great granny are eager to return. We swim in the pool in late October, had meals outside on the fabulous terrace, played ping pong, boules and cycled an visited some of the great local sights. It was all so easy and completely carefree. Everything you want in a holiday really.
