Andy Warhol mixed with John Lennon is the theme for this spacious yet cozy upstairs downstairs townhouse. Located just off the main street of Gawler you are walking distance to everything including restaurants, transportation and parks.
We were offered a different apartment to the one booked as the apartment booked had a long term booking. This would have been known well in advance but only communicated the day prior to arrival. The unit offered as an alternative was dirty. It smelt of cat urine and the courtyard had an empty beer can and a plastic container with a dead spider in it. Our attempts to contact the manager went unanswered but when we communicated through a different number our call was answered. We were eventually moved into a cleaner apartment.
The room has all the character and sophistication of a car garage. Thatâs because it is a garage. Theyâve just gyprocked over the roller door. The flourescent tube garage lighting is as charming as the furniture that looks like it was picked up on the side of the road. The âkitchenâ, if you could call it that, is impractical, tacky and dangerous. Everything looks like a DIY project gone wrong, not the work of a skilled tradie. A washing machine has been plonked in the middle of the living area. The TV is mounted bizarrely in a corner.
Upstairs, thereâs a hard bed and equally uncomfortable pillows. The bathroom is tiny, crude, impractical and dangerous. The miniscule sink makes it impossible to wash your face or clean your teeth without banging your head on the wall and water going down the front of you and all over the floor, creating a slip hazard. The shower door swings the wrong way, so you need to either open the bathroom door to give yourself room to get into the shower, or manoeuvre your way around the shower door and risk hurting your back on the bathroom door handle. The shower base is dangerously slippery.
No-one answers the phone. There is no voicemail or even the courtesy of a business greeting message. It just rings out. Pity about this tacky, over-priced apartment, because Gawler is a really nice town with great people.
Really enjoyed our stay. 2mins walk to CBD. Literally had everything described. We had a few instances where power tripped but Danielle was super helpful and quick to respond/attend. Only thing i would suggest - and its only very minor - is for the property to have cleaning tools i.e. broom/vaccum available esp. For long stays but other than that its a convenint place to stay esp. For single travellers/ couples.
