Had good expectations for this property considering we paid a lot for a week. This property lacks a lot. Things are not being kept up with, we noticed a lot of broken doors, knobs, hoses, electrical wires exposed, etc. electrical cords exposed in the socket and was a huge danger to our toddler who kept trying to touch it (this should be fixed immediately). Pros:It was close to everything including the beachBeds and Towels clean Open floor plan Manatee in canal out backCons: Old refrigerator that struggled to stay coolPrevious guests used fridge/freezer for bait. Someone had left bait in the house fridge and freezer and the stench was terrible our entire stay. Dirty towels left in the dryer by cleaners.Smallest bathroom toilet -you canât even sit down without hitting your knees on the wall. We found the bait station out on the dock full of cut up old bait (squid) and we had to clean it up, but the hoses out there were all broken. Cleaning was not done - fridge had food on top of it with lots of dust, hair in dishes, there was tons of dust and hair under furniture like they havenât been cleaned. Fridge wasnât clean and smelt like bait. The pool hasnât been maintained and has floating debris/particles.Kids shorts found outside in the couch and were soiled. Paid a cleaning fee for a dirty house and had to clean it as a paying guest on vacation. Would not recommend staying here unless you donât mind it being dirty.
Great house with everything we needed. The dock was super protected but easy access the ocean. The kids loved fishing, the manatees and the gecko's. The house was super clean and had plenty of space.
The house is comfortable, beautiful, open and spacious. The location was amazing and it was fantastic to dock the boat at home and launch kayaks directly from our back yard. We even saw a baby nurse shark swimming by the dock and kayaked to a mangrove canopy right from the house. We had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend Beach Nuts :)
Spacious and clean, ideal lot for privacy, fenced back yard on canal, ample parking, AC worked great, nice sitting areas. Big screened porch. Close to beach and groceries, restaurants. Property managers were very responsive with any issues that arose.
Great location, walking distance to sombrero beach with beautiful sunsets. We used local kayak company to deliver kayaks and used on site kayak launch and kayaked through boot key mangrove tunnels! Clean pool with floats, patio area, and grilled out a night. Spacious and clean. Perfect for a pandemic get away. Would recommend!
Our group of 7 fit perfectly in this spacious home. Loved having a dock for our 30' boat and being walking distance from Sombrero Beach. It is also a very short boat ride to get out to the Atlantic Ocean. The house has a lot of common areas to hang out in. We also enjoyed all of the outdoor areas. The decor makes you feel like you are in the keys. Also, very conveniently located for grocery shopping and dining out. We would definitely like to visit again!
Great neighborhood and location! Easy access to the Beach, the Gulf and the Ocean! All the conveniences (grocery, restaurants, etc) are near by. As other reviewers stated the bathrooms are odd but useable! No problem for the 6 of us that stayed! Great AC!!!!! We will return!
Property would hold a big group with lots of space. Located on a hard to find Sombrero beach walk. Biking was great to the beach. Be prepared for a funky bathroom setup which is off set by the dock and manatee watching. Reminder the pool is great but not heated.
We stayed in Beach Nuts in April of 2021. It was my parents, myself and husband and 3 teenagers and two dogs. The house was perfect for us. Check in process was smooth. Received the code when the house was ready. The house was clean and larger that we expected. We rented Kayaks for the week and paddled through boot key daily. We will definitely be back. All of us had a wonderful time.
Location could not get any better! We were able to walk to Sombrero beach in 3 minutes! It was an older home in need of some TLC though. There was plenty of room for my family to spread out. But some light fixtures did not work. And there were lots of bugs, particularly in the Jack and Jill bathroom.
Had a fabulous time. Pros: great location, 3â pool perfect for our kids, very clean, lots of indoor and outdoor space, screened porch was perfect for enjoying breeze, saw many animals (iguanas, lobsters, fish, jellyfish, etc), good communication from property managers. Negatives: house shows itâs age (eg, superficial cracks in walls), bathrooms are unique. To be clear, not an issue for us- in fact, bathroom layout worked great with young kids! All in all, fabulous rental and weâd stay again. Thank you!!
Our stay was amazing! The home is spacious with plenty of room to spread out. Although we didn't sleep much, the bedrooms were great. The bathrooms were a little different but for our family, they worked perfectly. You can access the jack and jill from the pool if needed which is super convenient. The pool was awesome and with the shade top and made it so much nicer to hang out all day. The boat dock was a huge asset! We literally went out everyday and could board right from there. Even launched our kayaks without any issue. Sitting on the dock in the morning watching the fish swim all up and down the canal was relaxing too! The home comes with everything you need from extra beach towels, to floats in the pool and even a separate location for the laundry room so don't have to hear the dryer all night. We hung out on the screened in back porch at night and it was super quiet. The best part were the iguanas which were quite lively and always sun bathing. They are truly more afraid of you than you are of them lol. The house is super convenient to everything and a short walk to the beach which is great when you want to see the sun set and rise! Thoroughly enjoyed every part and cannot wait to come back!
Property is quirky as other reviews have stated and needs some work but I knew that gonig in so I will not knock that in this review. Beds were comfortable/firm. Washer and driyer is available and it the side shed which is pretty normal for the keys. There were some older fishing poles we used that served their purpose. Otherwise if you want to fish you can buy a pole. Their are minimal supplies provided, so you will need to pick up some things at the store.
Great location, great outdoor area with newer grill and LP tanks provided. Plenty of room for the four of us (wife, myself and two adult children). Plenty of towels and their are also some beach towels available. Nice beach a block away, MUST take part in the sunset at the beach!! Close to any and all stores (driving).
I rented a boat and was able to dock it at the house for a few days, which was a nice benefit. If you have some experience in boating but have never done it in the ICWW I would recommend renting. I used Vacation Boat Rentals ask for Cathy, they were great to deal with. She is about 10 minutes up from the house and a 25 minute boat ride away.
Great location dated home with challenging bathroom situation
The home is in a great location and although it is dated and needs updating, it was adequate as we spent most of the time on our boat which is wonderful to have docked out back with a fish cleaning station. The two king bedrooms share a jack and jill style bathroom, which is a problem if there are two non-related people in the bedrooms. It would be better if they werenât connected at all, or if the owners put drywall in the shower to provide privacy as you walk in on the other people and hear all the sounds of them going to the bathroom, and the shower between the two toilets has glass so you can see to the other side, so you need to either yell or use a light signal technique to use the bathroom without someone walking in on you. When we read the prior reviews we were under the impression one set of adults could use the third bedroom with its own private bathroom, but it was an after market addition with such a small space, only small kids could sit on the toilet. If you are over 5â2â you need to straddle the toilet b/c your knees hit the bathroom wall if you try to sit normally on the toilet. Bottom line, this is a dated home that works well for one family, but not two couples. The location is great. The pool is an above ground style circular small pool (not our preference and felt like a hot tub due to being so small and above groundâŠbut it worked). The property manager was excellent! She replaced the broken dryer the same day we informed her it didnât work and repaired the A/C that stopped working later in the week, the same day also. I canât say enough about the responsiveness of the property manager. We will definitely book with Island Breeze managed properties again.
We had an amazing time at Sandyâs property. We spent out mornings on the dock fishing and nature watching. We saw manatees, lizards, crabs, lobsters, eels, all kinds of stuff. Spent a good amount of time in the pool and the beach, which were both warm since the weather is so hot. Sombrero beach near by was amazing. The house is big and very open and in a great location. Would definitely stay here again.
There were a few minor issues but nothing to keep us from coming back. We brought our boat and the location was perfect to get to the open water on the ocean side. The grocery stores were very convenient.
The kids loved the pool & we enjoyed relaxing each evening by the water. The yard was completely fenced in so the kids and our dogs were safe from the main rd. Short walk to the beach in the evening to see the sun set. Over all great & safe feeling neighborhood. We will be back!!!
The location is perfect. Great quiet neighborhood to walk the dog and 3 doors down from Sombrero Beach. Very close to grocery/liquor stores. The house is very clean and spacious. The bathrooms are a little strange as other reviews state but we knew that going in so we were fine. The screened porch is huge, it rained a few times so this was a great feature. You can fish from the dock or put a boat there. We saw a variety of fish like mangrove snapper, barracuda, a shark and had manatees visit us twice. Kayaking from the house is fantastic! You can kayak the canals, Boot Key or the ocean. We loved the house and the location, canât wait to go back!
Overall a good experience. Property managers easy to reach and responded promptly and kindly to questions. Excellent location-3 houses from Sombrero Beach, canal great for boating to open water within 5 minutes, and we felt very safe in the neighborhood.
Size of home very accommodating. As others commented-unusual bathroom set-up, but the bathrooms werenât the focus of our trip, so we didnât mind. Lots of space to spread out in the home and property. Plenty of towels and beach towels, kitchen supplies (except only 3 spoons), etc. and great to have laundry appliances on site.
Only downside was it seemed dated, and outside seating/loungers not as pictured. Some missing or burned out lightbulbs around the home. There were only 2 loungers, then a few broken/cracked Adirondack chairs that were unusable. Additional seating in screened patio-also not quite a pictured, but again, we were out and about much of the time, so that wasnât a setback.
Kids enjoyed the pool, observing the iguanas by the canal and saw a manatee in the canal as well.
Overall good accommodation for experiencing Marathon and the middle keys.
