The house was as listed. There was plenty of room. The house was updated and nice. The spiral steps could be challenging for elderly members of the party and small children or pets but we knew this when we booked and it is listed in pictures as well. Limited views of ocean as it is 3 rows back, but a Very short walk to the beach. We enjoyed our stay.

An adorable home with tons of space to spread out and enjoy! The pool is large and wonderful. The kitchen is well stocked for food prep. And the location is ideal for a short walk to the beach. We loved that our pets could vacation with us.

Based on other reviews, I expected to have all that we needed for our stay - well-supplied kitchen and comfortable furnisings. We were pleasantly surprised to see anything and everything we could need for a day at the beach or pool - sand toys, floats, and an awesome beach wagon. The walk to the beach was easy, and the neighborhood is quiet and friendly. As others have stated, the house is fully equipped. We especially needed the retractable baby gates to protect an 11 month old from the staircases - so thoughtful!! We enjoyed being an easy drive to all that VA Beach has to offer, but being far enough away that the beach was practically ours alone. We'll be back.

The property was larger than it looked with anything you could need for a fun stay. The beach items and bikes in the garage were perfect for our group who had adults that wanted to be on the beach and teens who wanted to bike to the boardwalk and aquarium. The area is beautiful and safe with quick and easy beach access. Everyone is very friendly and our dog loved the whole area as well.

The house is in a great location! The pool and the beach access made for a great weekend. Our issues occured largely on our first night. When we arrived we could not find any sheets for the pull out couch/futon/trundle bed despite these being advertised as sleeping options. I contacted the management company whom responded promptly by saying the sheets could arrive that evening or tomorrow AM. The sheets did not arrive until the morning. I’m not sure why they thought providing sheets in the morning was helpful given we had people who needed to sleep in the mentioned areas. We had to go out and buy sheets ourself as well as many paper products. The master shower is extremely difficult to work and no instructions are available. We took cold showers our whole stay. We did have an issues with cleanliness as we found a plate of pizza under a bed while setting up the trundle. I contacted the owner and their responses was an apology. Overall I enjoyed my weekend but I don’t think I’d pick this house to stay at again, I’m sure there are better options with similar locations.

Quick Trip in March

Overall very solid place. Cool interior of the house, clean, and spacious enough for a bunch of people. They also provided some food and toiletries as a complement to the house which was nice.

Perfect for family getaway

This property was perfect for our family. We were celebrating a high school celebration with family from out of town. There were plenty of rooms for everyone and tons of space to spread out. The pool was great and being one block from the beach made the location even better. It’s far enough away from the busy ocean front, but close enough to everything. The folks at Anchor Realty were responsive and helpful. Thank you to them and the Host for such an amazing place. 10/10 would recommend!!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Had a beautiful week in Croatan. House needs some updates, sliding doors don't lock, outdoor furniture is very old and in need of replacement, deck boards coming up and desperately needing replacement and the bedrooms could use some updating. The kitchen and bathrooms were updated, however, we did have ants in the kitchen all week that we needed to keep removing. Overall, a decent house in a great location and had almost everything we needed during our stay.

Everything in the house worked like expected. The record player was a neat bonus. It took less than one minute to walk to the beach. The pool was clean. The deck had ample seating options. The garage has some floats, beach chairs, and bicycles. Also, we appreciated having a keurig along with a coffee pot. Would definitely recommend, and we may book again too!

Great house with a few challenges.

House was beautiful and inviting on the inside. The pool was a great advantage and walking distance to beach. We had to contact realtor twice. Toilet in master needed new bolts and the wooden decking around the pool was in need of repair or replacing. A person came the next day to fix the toilet but it wasn’t possible to put a bandaid on the decking. Also one day the entry keypad wasn’t working so the battery needed replacing. The pool was the best part. We spent most of our time by the pool because it was very relaxing and good comfortable chairs for lounging and having meals.

The location was perfect and honestly the house was more than big enough to accommodate my family of 4. We would stay again. The water temperature knob did not work in the master bath. Only super hot water came out. I did mention that the grill was not clean, and the pool had quite a bit of beach sand in it.I want to also mention that the small dining area off the kitchen has some signs of moisture buildup on the walls, with possibly mold growth starting. I would also recommend having the caulking redone behind the kitchen sink. It can lead to water damage.I want to reiterate that we were satisfied with the accommodation and would stay again. I probably only noticed these things because I do finish carpentry for a loving.

Perfect getaway!

This rental is in a spectacular location! We knew the listing said it was walking distance to the beach, but we had no idea it was this close. The kids didn’t mind walking back and forth from the beach to the house for breaks, more snacks, etc. You are so close to Virginia Beach boardwalk without having the bustle of being in Virginia Beach. I would stay here for every summer vacation from here on out. The house was ready before check-in and we were notified of this through text. We had stayed a few days in Williamsburg prior to coming here, so we didn’t get into the rental early because we were still at the water park, but could have easily left and got in early. The house was clean. There was plenty of space for our three kids to be spread out and not on top of each other. The pool was an awesome bonus. I think the kids spent as much time in the pool as they did at the beach. We brought pool inflatables, but there were plenty to borrow in the garage. There were also a couple beach chairs and bikes. I have raved about this rental to everyone who has asked me how vacation was. This is in one of my top three rentals we have ever stayed in for a family vacation!

Unclean and Unsafe

Home was dirty upon arrival. Contacted property management as soon as we arrived and they had cleaners come back which still left the property unsatisfactory. After two cleans it was evident it wasn't going to get any better. At this point we are in a situation of a nonrefundable vacation that we have no choice but to attempt to enjoy. Went and bought cleaning supplies to make it as clean we could. The property management company then decided to drop off a gift card to an arcade to for our troubles. They dropped this off by entering the locked home without any notice or consent while myself and my teenage daughter were both taking showers. This was beyond unacceptable and honestly violating. After calling them out on this they would no longer reply to messages. I was on this vacation solo with my three children because my husband was unable to come. We no longer felt safe and vacated the premises 4 days early. Property management company has still yet to reply or address their facilities manager entering the property while we were there without any notice or consent. We couldn’t get many tvs to work properly, internet took hours to get working due to incorrect info provided. Speakers mostly don’t even have speaker wire ran to them or power. Dirty wise I wish I could attach photos to this. Other peoples full body hair all over beds after two cleans, overwhelming amount of pet hair all over everything, HVAC filters awful, broken deck boards..I'm out of space, but so much more

Croatan Christmas Holiday Vacation

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall we had a good stay. We were told that the property was a little older & shows some wear & tear & was priced accordingly. The house in general was nice. More care could have been made for cleaning areas as there were several evidences of cobwebs, dust & spiderwebs which required us to do some basic cleaning ourselves upon checking in. The home is a vacation rental so some basic things would make this house so much nicer & a property you'd want to return to. The house is in need of a simple painting of the walls. Walls were pretty dingy with dirt & holes that a fresh coat of paint would easily resolve. Most of the vents in the ceilings were full of rust which did not make you feel the house was maintained well. The microwave over the oven did not work which we figured out later & although there was another microwave available, it should be disclosed that something is not operational. The oven needed to be cleaned & the temperature control could not easily be entered on the oven. The vent in the kitchen that's in the middle of the floor was a safety hazard our entire stay with several of us tripping over the vent. The shower in the upstairs master suite was difficult to operate & not ideal to use with how the water came out of the different faucets. Also, with this type of open shower, water gets on the floor where there was no type of rug. The bathroom on the 2nd level needs the sink replaced as there is rust & mildew around the top of the sink that continued to drop into the sink during water usage which is not sanitary. The shower curtain liner had mildew on the bottom of the curtain which we replaced by going to the store to buy a new shower liner which should be done between guest with COVID concerns. Other than that, the house was okay & again could have been a great experience with just some basic upkeep & care. I have pictures of the mildew & rust on the shower curtain & in the bathroom sink on the 2nd level if you want to see it.

I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: To start with , I was to stop at Anchor Realty and pick up the keys to Bare Feet Retreat out of a Lock box. I opened the lock box and my packet was not there! THANK GOD someone was in the office!Turns out the owner of the house had e-mailed me 1/2 hour before I arrived at 4pm to say that I would have to use the door code to get in because this person did not leave my packet where it was supposed to be. I'M DRIVING OVER 5 HOURS AND AM NOT CHECKING MY E-MAILS! WHICH BY THE WAY WENT TO SPAM. Upon arrival the pool was dirty and had a light out, which would've been nice to swim after dark with and the poolside furniture was cruddy. The air conditioning on the main floor would not keep the floor any cooler than 84 degrees for the hottest part of the day and into the evening. The main floor TV would not work. The floor was sticky in main living area and we had to wear shoes everywhere. There was long dark hair in the main floor bathroom shower as well as mold. The bottom floor sliding door doesn't lock so there is a wooden rod to put in the length of it to keep it from opening. The gas grill outside was a mess to clean up before using with the bottom falling out. There's plenty of dinner plates, bowls, drinking glasses, mugs and silverware but as far as being fully stocked kitchen, if you're going to cook you better take some skillets and pots because there is only one very used skillet and a small plus very large top it off, I killed two very large 2 inch cockroaches and saw two others scurrying. ( I took pictures if there is any doubt from anyone). I regret spending several thousand dollars to stay here and honestly wasn't sure if the beds( COMFORTER AND SHEETS) which were on the hard side, had been sanitized properly. This house could be a great family friendly place to stay if it was given the upkeep that it needs, it honestly is the least attractive in the Vanderbilt street area because it needs a fresh painting and some TLC.
