If you're looking for a little hideaway outside of the hustle and bustle this is the place for you. My husband and I loved it here and would come back again. But if you're looking to be close to restaurants and away from chickens that start crowing before the sun rises you may want to look elsewhere.
Enjoyed being in the middle of the road to HÄna, close to the Twin Falls. We drove the road to Hana starting at 5am, we are on eastern US time, which was nice to see the sunrise and have no traffic. We first visited the black sand beach. Hiked the PÄ«pÄ«wai trail and headed back. Stopped in Keanea at KĆkÄ« beach for the huli huli chicken lunch which was fantastic and so gourmet! Although there was a sprinkle every day, we avoided getting wet pretty easily. It only lasts a few minutes most of the time! I appreciated being able to do laundry since I packed light. The property was cute and well maintained. The treats and flowers upon arrival felt really special. And I enjoyed the chickens (felt like home) despite the roosters wake up call. Chicken are everywhere in Maui!! Thank you for making our time in Maui special.
We had an absolute wonderful time in the Rainbow Lookout. The welcoming details and the way the cottage was prepared for our visit was beyond belief. Fresh eggs and awesome bread in the fridge made my wife want to make breakfast every day! The property itself is wonderful and so lush. Plenty of privacy and a great space. It was very windy and rainy while we visited but I think that actually made it more fun! Owner is very responsive, hot tub was great, plenty of laundry facilities, I could go on - just everything was exceptional!
Exceptionally clean & well cared for by obviously conscientious hosts. Light and airy wood-framed cottage w/ unusual layout surrounded by lush, mature landscaping. No real kitchen to speak of but large 3-door fridge w/ ice maker, kitchen sink, dishwasher & assortment of countertop appliances, plus a 2-burner gas BBQ grill outside (w/ a roof over it).
Definitely off the beaten path; about 25 minutes east of Paia in a non-tourist area. Great place to just go and chill out.
An unbelievable gem, given my criteria in identifying a suitable place to stay on Maui. Yes, I like nice beaches, but I am far more interested in staying at a place away from the crowds, low density, discreet, lush and which hearkens a bit back to old Hawaii. This place checks all the boxes. During our stay, it was often difficult to tell if anyone else was staying there with us. The pool was empty every time we went there, and it was refreshing to come back from a daily excursion and take a cool dip. The beds were comfortable and we were able to cook most everything we wanted to in the kitchen. The hot tub was an extra bonus - it was clean and worked flawlessly. On top of all that, and probably best of all, our host Sharyn was absolutely wonderful, warm, very attentive and communicative to our inquiries, yet completely out of sight, to the extent that we invited her over to chat a bit one evening. All in all, a perfect stay, and a place I would definitely return to when in Maui again!
My friends and I stayed for a girl's weekend and wanted peace and tranquility. We had a fantastic time and Kai was outstanding before and throughout our stay! The extra touch of welcome goodies and Aloha throughout our stay was terrific. As was the hot tub, perfect for sore muscles after our Haleakala hike!
This place was beautiful, the views were amazing and the hosts are a real treat. The weather was a little hot. We had the fans going and are hosts went above and beyond to unsure our comfort.
The cottage was a very lovely and private place to stay. The best Hawaiian rainforest experience possible without having to live in a tent. Easy off season drive to the beaches. Loved it and would stay again.
Wonderful, peaceful paradise. If you've stayed in Lahaina or Kaanapali and were horrified by the overcrowding and sterility, this place is the remedy. Spotlessly clean when we arrived and SO MANY cute touches. You might see some ants or lizards inside...but that's how it should be in Hawaii! The pool is wonderful and the property was incredibly cool. We didn't have any problems without a full kitchen - there is a hot plate and microwave etc.
All in all - highly recommend this place!!!
I feel so lucky to have discovered this beautiful enclave on Maui. I stayed in the Rainbow House for a week and loved every moment spent there. The grounds are beautifulâimpeccably kept with a special water feature to enjoy in the morning with my coffee. The house felt so very private and I especially loved star gazing from the hot tub at night. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the space and the charming little details throughout. I felt so welcomed on the day I arrived. Sharyn was attentive, ensuring that I had everything I needed as well as offering advice about the dining in the area. The kitchen was well-equipped with what I needed to cook at "home". When I need another respite from the bustle of Honolulu, I will most certainly visit Huelo Point Lookout again.
We enjoyed the remote cottage in the tropical environment very much. The cottage is very cosy with huge private garden (hammock between two coconut trees!), private hot tub and outdoor shower -- we loved it although there is an indoor shower as well. The kitchen was very clean and was well equipped with extraordinarily high-quality equipment (great). The covered outdoor stove was nice and kept cooking odors out of the building. On arrival we found all rooms perfectly decorated with fresh flowers, white wine, bread, eggs from their own chickens, etc in the refridgerator, and a fruit basket in the kitchen. The dining table was nicely prepared. Guests are invited to pick bananas which were grown in the garden. The host Sharyn is very friendly and helpful. The cottage lies in a remote area, you have to drive approx. 30 min on the winding Hana highway to reach Pa'ia. The famous dining restaurant Mama's Fish House and the surfer hot spot Ho'opika are about 20 min by car from the cottage. We booked some boat trips from Lahaina which needs a drive of about 75-90 min, depending on the traffick which was high in February. Nevertheless, we liked the privacy far away from the huge hotel complexes at the other coast, as well as the familiar and warm atmosphere.
This was the exact place that my husband and I were looking for. We wanted to escape to Maui, but so many of the accommodates are large hotels are condos.
When we arrived the cottage to set with welcome treats and a lovely bottle of wine. The property is beautiful, with a great pool. We were told that there were other guest during our stay but we did not see anyone but once and had the pool to ourselves!.
We love listening to the night storms roll in on the tin roof, and wake to the beautiful sunrises. We will definitely be back!!! Maybe even making it a family trip renting out a couple of the cottages/house.

We have one young son, Kai Nalu, aged 17. And also an older son, Adrian, who lives in England with his lovely German wife, Antje and their 2 totally cute kids. We're too young to have grandchildren! aaaggghh!!! But what a treat!
Huelo is off the beaten path, wild and wonderful. Who could resist? We have a constant trade wind, so we never 'bake' like the west side ... and here the landscape is lush, so it's easy to do our organic gardening. We wanted a Maui dream escape, but also wanted some conveniences, and these we have aplenty!
