The property is so special and welcoming. The location could not be better and looking over the garden toward the wall was a favorite memory of our week. The kitchen offered everything we needed. Will book again!
We had such a lovely time at the Palazzo Pfanner. Beautiful property, just as described, and a powerful fan next to the bed to stay cool on those warm summer Italian nights! You wonât be disappointed, this place is beautiful. Thank you Dario!
We were greeted at the station and brought to the property which is just as it is pictured. Lucca is a very special historical and classy place. Can not speak more highly of our stay here. Cinque Terre was a day trip which was an 1hr train ride. Perfect location
We will always have fond memories of our stay at the Palazzo Pfanner. What a privilege to stay in this fine Palazzo. We loved looking out the windows onto the amazing garden. Dario was wonderful and even invited us to attend a concert in the Palazzo. The location is a short walk from the walled city. So much to see there. Donât pass up the chance to stay here.
We had a remarkable and memorable stay at the Palazzo! Itâs a very unique experience, to wake up in a Palazzo in Lucca, like a king. The location is wonderful, very near to the wall for walks, and close to shopping and dining options. Dario is very communicative and a pleasure. The only down side is that the garden is being redone, so you donât have access to it, and there is some construction noise, but that will be finished and we will return to see the new garden. If you are looking for an enchanting experience, to transport yourself back to a different time, this is it. Thank you Palazzo Pfanner!
Must experience a property like this to appreciate how the nobility lived. The gardens are out of this world for relaxation. The host Dario is a rather cultured person so a pleasure to meet. He is more than attentive to all enquiries about a stay in the adoring city of Lucca. A wonderful vacation in Pallazzo Pfanner, much more than ever expected.
One could not imagine a better location for a stay in a Lucca apartment. Palazzo Pfanner's rooms, its history, the view out onto the gardens, and access to the garden is special. The Palazzo's location adjacent to the wall and closeness to shopping and restaurants is great. The only reservations I have is the need to pay closer attention to improving the quality of sheets and towels, and the kitchen accessories and amenities. These reservations are outweighed by the uniqueness of the property.
I have never stayed in a place as beautiful and awe-inspiring as Palazzo Pfanner. I teared up when I walked in. It is truly breathtaking. Dario is a lovely host who came to the rescue when I left my passport in the room after I'd checked out. Simply perfect in every way. I cannot wait to bring my family to this spectacular place. Lucca is now my favorite Italian town. I miss it already!
Such a beautiful Palazzo steeped in history and elegance. Dario is an affable, gracious, and helpful host. The gardens are lovely with statues and a large fountain. The location is perfect, an easy walk to restaurants, cafes, and all kinds of shops. That is if you ever want to leave the palatial apartment, with its tall windows and view of the gardens. We purchased groceries from some local stores and had breakfast in our lovely dining room every day. We also enjoyed several charcuterie and salad luncheons there. The atmosphere and acoustics are wonderful. We sang and played guitar in the evenings to entertain ourselves and it was delightful! My husband and I have already booked for next year. We are in love with Lucca and Palazzo Pfanner! Thank you, Dario!
We stayed for 9 nights in here, a property advertised for its beautiful garden and stunning views. Although the host mentioned some construction in the garden when we checked in at night, we only realized the extent of it the next morningâthere was no garden at all. Some mornings, we were even woken up by construction noise as early as 8:00 AM. Later, we learned that this renovation had been ongoing for at least 4 months, meaning we booked based on misleading photos. While the host, Dario, was responsive, I cannot give a good rating due to these issues. The relentless mosquitoes, which made every night unbearable despite our efforts, also ruined our experience.
This is a very large apartment in a spectacular, historic palazzo. The rest of the "first" floor (American "second floor") is a museum and a continuation of the very high ceilings and beautiful decoration. The steps are what the Italians call 'comfortable'--not too steep. We absolutely loved it. A decent kitchen (no oven or dishwasher) allowed us to cook 'at home' several evenings with the gorgeous local fresh produce, meats, pasta, and cheeses. Many large (10 foot?) windows give views of the spectacular gardens and up to the walls of Lucca. Restaurant was closed during our stay. Some people might find the bathroom a little worn-out, and the water wasn't very hot, but if you can overlook that, it is an incredible experience to stay in this apartment. We were there eight days and loved it.
We're just back from a week at Palazzo Pfanner. We stayed here last summer and really enjoyed the gardens. We hoped to repeat the experience. However, about a month before we flew Dario contacted us to say "The garden is closed for renovation and sometimes in the day you can hear some noise coming from the worksite" and when I replied I wasn't happy, "the director of the works assured us that the works would be finished by November 30th. Only a few days ago".Upon arrival, he apologised and gave us one days discount, for which we were very grateful. This seemed to make up for the lack of garden, but at 8 a.m. the next morning, everything changed. If you're renting this between December 2024 and maybe a few months after, please ask Dario for a clear and accurate description of the state of the noise, etc.I do like Dario, but I feel we have been cheated and we will not be staying there again. I believe he should not be taking bookings whilst the building work is in progress. If you're curious, please search YouTube for "awesome apartment in palazzo pfanner" shorts. It's far more than gardening.Lee
Beautiful apartment, high ceilings, gorgeous authentic time period rooms, spacious, clean, and the staircase leading up to the apartment, the pictures don't do it justice., would definitely stay there again if ever in Lucca. Dario was helpful with all of our questions/needs. Wonderful experience!
Dario and Ettore, our hosts, weâre gracious and kind. The property is a historic landmark in Lucca. People pay to view the gardens, that are basically our back yard. The gardens open to the public between 10-5. This afforded us the opportunity to have quiet breakfasts and dinners in this beautiful garden. Simply amazing! The rooms have 25â ceilings and the rooms are huge. The bed was very comfortable.
What an experience staying in a Palazzo in Lucca! Looking out to the garden from our palatial bedroom window and walking in the garden in the evening after the tourists left were just magnificent! Walking the wall and feeling very special as everyone stopped to photograph âour gardenâ! Dario and Ettore were very helpful with suggestions for dining and places to visit. Lucca is a magical destination!
From the moment we arrived, we knew this was a perfect choice for our anniversary week. The gardens are beautiful and peaceful...full of citrus trees, well manicured bushes, fish pond, fountains, statues, and flowers. The apartment was huge and had everything we needed for our comfort. The hosts (Dario and Ettore) were very nice and helpful. We enjoyed a piano concerto the first evening we arrived. The last evening, the Palazzo had an event going on with live music and we enjoyed listening to it in our apartment and on the outside terrace discreetly. The stairs were lit up with candlelight and looked so magical for this event. Location was perfect for us with a lot of dining options nearby. Sitting in the garden with a glass of wine with nobody else around is such a nice retreat from the hustle and bustle of Lucca. We really felt like royalty in this beautiful place and would love to go back. Thank you for having us Dario.

This historic gem is such a gift to the Lucca community, and that the owner opens it to the public and to guests to enjoy is remarkable. We couldnât have asked for a nicer host. Thank you Dario!
