The property was everything we needed - close proximity to the beach & fully equipped with just the right amount of necessities to move from home into the rental with minimum interruption. I apologize for the delay in responding - my husband pulled his ribs out of place while strapping our bikes on the car while packing to go home, so the review was out of mind! You will love this house!
This property is well maintained and fits our large family. It is directly on a private beach which is right out the back door 50 feet. Most of our days were spent just playing on the beach. Dauphin Island is not very busy and does not have a lot to do but if its perfect for a couple day getaway to the beach.
Nice, roomy house but all the mattresses were awful! They were so creaky that no one slept very well. Also, the area around the outside of the house was unkept. Lots of trash.....even a pile of someoneâs hair.
Every year my extended family takes a week long vacation in a VRBO home at various locations at a beach or in the mountains. This was a beach year, so after some research, we chose this house on Dauphin Island for the first time. We LOVED the island and the beach in front of the house. The neighborhood is a gated community and very safe and secure. We took our bikes and easily were able to bike around the island, as well as take a short walk to the Audubon Bird Sanctuary, which is beautiful and a must see! We also visited the Sea Lab, which was great on a rainy afternoon. We rented kayaks and were able to use those from our beach, but the current was a bit stronger than anticipated for this. Others had mentioned the posts sticking up on the beach when entering the water, but if you are careful, you figure out where they are and avoid them. Overall the water and beach were great, and the best feature of this property! The house itself, as another reviewer mentioned, does have issues. As most reviewers have already said, the mattresses need upgraded to anything halfway decent. We planned ahead and invested in some mattress toppers, which helped. Upon arrival, we found one set of sheets on a bed were dirty, but luckily there was a clean set in the closet. We did have an issue with ants as well as other insects in the house, which was reported and the property manager had the exterminator come the following day. The chairs on the decks were not the greatest, and some of the dining chairs provided were cracked/broken. The kitchen was stocked, but there wasn't enough silverware for our family of 10. For the most part, things were clean and it was a comfortable stay; however, for the money we spent for this rental, we have stayed much better accommodations on the beach. We will return to the island, but likely not this same house.
This property had a lot of issues. Some had been previously mentioned in reviews which I gave them the benefit of having corrected. The real estate company was very responsive to the issues but they offered temporary solutions which accommodated us but didnât permanently resolve the issues. That would be up to the homeowner and they donât appear to be interested in the comments or maintaining the house.
The house itself is very spacious. It sits 15 yards from the ocean, much closer than it appears in the photo. It was nice to have a private beach. Lots of room for quiet beach walking as it is near the bird sanctuary but on days with high tide there was no open beach in front of the house. The ocean directly in front of the house is dangerous due to old pier remnants but if you want to be in the ocean there is plenty of safe area down the beach. It is perfect if your desire is to sit on a spacious porch and feel like you are sitting on the beach. The beach is very quiet and natural so there are both advantages and disadvantages.
We loved it. Perfect layout for a big family / multiple families with kids and dogs. Well-supplied kitchen equipment made it easy to cook all our meals during our stay. We loved having our own little private beach!
Two downsides: uncomfortable beds, and tree stumps hidden in high tide caused some scrapes and bruises. These could possibly be flagged?
Lots of room! We had 3 families here, 7 adults, and 4 kids under age 7. The water/beach is closer than it looks! We left our tent and toys out and nothing was stolen. Very safe. *Only issue: there are old wood posts left from piers in the water so you have to watch out for those.

Beautiful home with perfect beachfront.
This home is just gorgeous with an almost private beach. Plenty of room and bathrooms and very well equipped kitchen. The outdoor spaces have ocean views and neighborhood is quiet. We had a perfect vacation and will return.
Very quiet location with almost private beach. Newer house was very nice and had everything we needed. Walk down the steps and onto the beach! Only criticism is the bed mattresses. Uncomfortable and noisy, really should be replaced with upgrades. And maybe a few more deck chairs. Otherwise an excellent choice and would stay here again! The island has a great small town atmosphere and is a welcome change from other gulf coast commercialized locations. Highly recommended for a relaxing vacation with family.
We had our own beach! The main thing we enjoyed was the absence of crowds. We could spend time with our family of 10 with no problem. There was plenty of room for all including the dog. The beach was a lot closer to the house than appears in the picture. The only downside was the kids said the waves weren't high enough!
This was our groupâs (3 families) third time to stay here. We have thoroughly enjoyed each one. The proximity to the beach is great! It is literally steps away! The house is a great size. Only recommendation for the owners is to put the water hose closer to the steps so you wonât track in sand. Thanks for another great trip!
We arrived after 5 on Saturday and the key that was left for us didn't fit the locks. We panicked but it was resolved within the hour.
The house is ocean front but set back maybe 80 yards from the water. Perhaps to save the pine trees that are there??? The front exposure is with the weeds trimmed away. It was a little overgrown in July 2017. And there is an abundance of stickers so plan on wearing your shoes until you're at the water's edge.
Us old folks stayed on the main level but we did tour the whole house and it's huge. The living room furniture is well placed and adjacent to the kitchen and the glass doors leading to the deck and Gulf. It's a great view. The main deck facing the Gulf has numerous chairs for lounging.
Everything worked well and was functional. Except maybe for the exterior lighting. It needs help.
This was our 7th house we've rented as a family and the worst beds we've encountered. They crunched when you sat on them and crunched when you got up. Our queen bed may have been the best but it was still not good. On some of the king beds you could feel the coil springs pressing on you. The beds were very disappointing.
We never ran out of hot water with 8 of us bathing. That includes 2 teen boys! The water is very hard and does not lather. We used bottle water most of the time for drinking.
We enjoyed the large kitchen because we like to cook together. That was a plus!
I would say for the price Dauphin on the Gulf was OK. We had a a large, clean and well working house on the waterfront.
What a great house!! We visited during Easter, which you would expect to be busy but it was very quiet there. The beach was not crowded and we saw very few people. The beach is untouched and rustic, which we absolutely loved. The house itself was well kept and we did not experience any problems during our stay. We definitely plan to visit again.
Cabin was roomy, well supplied, and close to water!
Six ladies on annual beach trip - found this cabin to be one of the best we have ever had! It is very large, was clean and well kept, and best of all, just a short path down to the water. Loved that it had an uncovered deck on second floor, and covered one on first. Never turned the TV on, but WiFi and A/C worked well. Good restaurants close by, and lots of friendly island people!
The house and location were perfect for our family get-together for 4 nights and 3 days. The kitchen is very well supplied with pots, pans, baking dishes, utensils, etc. The beach is a short walk from the house. The house has unobstructed views of the Gulf, and three of the bedrooms had french doors to a deck overlooking the Gulf. The only downside was that the wireless internet never worked and the rental agency was unable to arrange for it to be fixed. The internet provider needed account information from the owners, which was not available to the rental agency nor could the owners be contacted during our stay. We ended up spending at least $50 extra dollars on phone plan data so that we could create our own wireless via phone hotspot.
