The property was great. It was smaller than we had anticipated but was perfect for two. The walk down to the beach was a delight and proximity to everything was wonderful.
This property is located in a beautiful neighborhood 1 block from the fabulous Windansea Beach. The apartment made very good use of the square footage and was roomy enough for our needs. The back patio added to the feeling of space. Nice remodel, comfortable bed. 2 of us stayed there 2 weeks and would stay there again. The only negative aspect is entering the building you walk through the trash can alley to get to the door. But we always felt safe and enjoyed coming âhomeâ to the cozy apartment.
The location makes this place worth it, no question. It's just up the hill from Windansea Beach, so you can dart down to stroll, scramble over the rocks, set out your towel or watch pelicans. It is small (*really* small on rainy days!) and the kitchen fixings are very basic. The neighborhood has largely kept its charm, but there is lots of new construction (which, alas, could be loud.) Really glad we chose this overall.
We enjoyed our visit to beachcomber hideaway. Convenient location with parking on the street. The unit is clean and well maintained. The beach is a short walk but we found having a car is best for all the sights and activities that are in the area.
Small but ok for a week! Entrance not very nice as you go past several garbage cans. Some things that should be addressed are as follows. Both chairs on the patio have broken seats! Beach chairs are rusty and very dirty. Front of the sink in the kitchen is peeling and needs repair. It could be a nice spot as the location is great. Just needs some attention to detail.
Nice clean property close to several good restaurants, nice neighborhood to walk around, close to beach where many neighbors gather at sunset, would definitely return, agree that La Jolla is definitely a jewel!
First time in San Diego, stayed here for 7 nights.Location is phenomenal. So close to the beach and I visited the ocean everyday.Pictures are not up to date - the space is more worn down than the pictures. There was a big roach in the bathroom my first night, some of the dishes werenât clean, dirty dish sponge, and the space clearly could use a more thorough clean. This it put me off from the space a bit. I told the host and she was able to put up roach traps and put a new dishwasher sponge. I later ended up killing the roach. The space is small but has a good layout. Pillows for the bed sucked. Overall, not worth the money & would not recommend for extended stays unless the space is refurbished a bit. But it was decent for a first timer who didnât know better.
We enjoyed being able to walk to the beach multiple times each day, and having stores and restaurants close was a plus. Comfortable, well equipped and clean. I would recommend this property.
One bedroom unit with small but well stocked kitchen, plenty of dishes and cookware and a delightful outdoor space. A short walk to Windansea Beach. The place was spotless and well cared for.

Didn't tell us about roof construction until 2 days before our stay. Stepped on roofing nail as we started our visit, luckly for owner, 1" nail went into heel instead of anyother place on my foot. I would have sued!
I have stayed with Sharon in the past but at a different propertyâŠThis particular property was run down and damaged. I was disappointed with this property. It needs some work. Upon arrival, there were bugs on the bed, not bed bugs⊠but other bugs and bugs in other areas within the place. Nice patio space for relaxing. The kitchen had some damage and had an odd smell. Decent location but run down and the wiring for the patio lights were cut and damaged.
The location is great and the apartment is perfect for 1-2 people. The only thing I would improve is that some items like the laundry basket or kitchen utensils should be replaced. It is well equipped with cookware and silverware.
The suite is at a fantastic location. 1 block from the beach. You can walk to shops, restaurants and grocery stores within 20 -30 min. The suite is in a great neighborhood and felt very safe when out walking. We used Uber to get around. The suite is a bit old with an updated bathroom but overall a great place and i would definitely come back again. Pictures are accurate. Owners replied quickly with any questions.
Thankyou for the great time we had.
We knew the place would be small but were shocked by how small it was.
There are mirrors everywhere to make the place look more spacious. They need to add one or two reading lights in the living room area. A few things were missing or broken and the owner was quick to respond and fix. We had tenants above who were very noisy early in the morning.
The location is phenomenal, a very short walk to the beach. Parking on the street is easy.
First of all, let me say the location is great. That's the positive. But otherwise, I wasn't impressed. The photos of this place were clearly taken years ago when it was newly renovated. The place has since gone downhill without proper maintenance, and it shows everywhere. It's a place that was once cute but no longer is. Light fixtures with missing/broken bulbs (which made the place dark), dirty dishes in the cabinets (we had to wash every single thing we used prior to using it), water damage in the kitchen, heavily mildewed and faded sunshades outdoors, overgrown and unkempt patio with burnt out light bulbs strung about, a grill literally rusted through with holes, etc. With a 1000 investment and a day or two of work, this place could be spruced up and made to look quite cute again. But it seems the owners are content to just take the rental income and let the place kind of fall apart. My wife and I were kind of disappointed we didn't just get a room at chain hotel a half block away.
Loved staying in this studio! It worked great for my purposes. Only thing I will say is the rooms are smaller in person than they are in the pics. This is the story however everytime I book a place because the pics on the rental websites are taken with wide angle lenses and it makes the rooms look bigger than they actually are. I think it should be required information the square footage of a place the way they give that information when someoen is selling their house. That information, if given on all rentals, would be very advantageous, atleast in my mind. I was only one person so the place worked great for me. Sharon, the owner, was awesome and got back to me immediately if I had any questions. I would definitely stay there again. The studio is in a great location & it was lovely that there was a washing machine and dryer that I could use. It would be a great place to stay in the summer!
Another lovely week at the beach and second time staying here. What can I say except how much I love coming to La Jolla and this little beach pad. Thank you. This VRBO has everything, albeit smallâitâs filled with all the amenities one needs for a getaway. My only constructive critique is a year later the wear of the kitchen is beginning to tell the tale of all who have been there. I guess the positive is itâs a popular little place âgetting lots of use. Perhaps in between all the guest stays the owner will be able to get the repairs complete. I can see itâs booked up until October. Amazing and good for them and all who get to stay here. Despite the little maintenance tasksâIt truly is a great little find. We absolutely loved our time staying here, cooking and dining alfresco. The patio is one of our favorite aspects. Thank you for the memories and we will be back again next summer. We wish all who stay here a lovely stay and hope you relax and appreciate this rare find as much as we do.
We enjoyed our stay at Beachcomber. The apartment is small, but it had everything we needed to have a comfortable week long stay. The kitchen is great with a full size range and all the equipment we needed. The living room has a small sectional that opened to a queen bed size so we could comfortably relax while watching YouTube TV. It was nice that the apartment had a smart tv and some streaming services to use. The bedroom was small and tight, but the mattress was conformable and bedding was good quality. It is noteworthy to mention the bed is very low. The private patio was a good size and quite lovely with the privacy trees and rustic brick pavers. We had our dog with us, so the patio was a godsend to allow him freedom to roam and get fresh air. There are also patio furnishings for dining and lounging. The weather was cool and breezy so with the windows opened, we had wonderful airflow and coolness. Parking was surprisingly easy and accessible within just a couple of driveways away. The check in process was easy and locking up was worry free. The Windansea Beach was 2 blocks away. The area was not too busy during the week and on weekends it was slightly busy. We enjoyed this beach much more than at some of the larger san diego beaches. There was plenty of restaurants and grocery shops within walking distance. Larger chain stores were just a few minutes drive away as well. This was our first time to the La Jolla area and we loved it. We hope to stay again next year.
I debated on if I was going to leave a review.VRBO prompted so I figured I might as well.
Likes and dislikes:
-This place is super cute and it definitely didnât feel small. It was small but the layout maximized the space.
-There is an odd smell, we bought air fresheners to help with this.
-There is a washer and dryer, but you have to be flexible with the times you need to wash and hit try to beat others.
-There were bugs. I hate bugs. I had to sleep on the front room(read other points below for details) and after seeing the bugs, I couldnât sleep as I was scared theyâd crawl on me in my sleep.
-there is a door in the bedroom. When I asked about it I was told it was âsealedâ and backs up to a laundry room. This was completely FALSE. There was a bit of dirt on the floor near the door so my daughter inspected. It lead to someone elseâs back patio. I ended up just sleeping in the front room the remainder of my stay. When my 16 year had to stay with me, we both just slept on the pullout in the living area.
I have pictures of the âalarmâ system I set up in case anyone tried to enter.
Needless to say I did not get much sleep during my stay and wonât be staying here again.
The location is great, the unit is not. The most accurate description is: Bare minimum. If you're staying for a weekend, it'll do the trick. For such a high price and low quality though, we would not recommend it to anyone staying longer unless significant changes are made.
The unit is connected to the building's garbage room, which means the patio and unit gets lots of bugs. We stepped barefoot on 2 cockroaches in the middle of the night throughout our stay. The mesh screen door works ok. It had holes in it so flies regularly got in, even after the host came by to sew them by hand.
The bedroom gets no airflow so it's much hotter inside than outside. Any warm day makes the room unusable even after the host provided an extra fan. That meant we slept on the pull out couch. The host explained that the couch is covered in stains because many guest's wet dogs lay on it. The host later offered to put a couch cover.
The kitchen faucet and shower head were crusted with enough green limescale buildup that the latter had to be replaced by the host.
Ultimately, the host is responsive but falls short of truly fixing things. The unit is mostly held together by bandaids. Your best bet is a different location for longer stays.
I grew up near La Jolla and have always loved the charm and beauty. Wind n Sea Beach is truly beautiful and Beach Comber's Hideaway is a lovely and peaceful place to vacation.
If you love good design, close proximity to the beach, restaurants and shops, pet friendly - happy places, you'll love staying at Beach Comber's Hideaway.
