This is the first guest who gave a lower-than-usual rating and did not consider it necessary to provide a single explanation. During the stay, there was not one complaint, request, or report of a problem, even though I always ask guests to contact me immediately if anything needs attention. A rating should reflect the actual quality of the stay and the services provided. If no complaint, request, or problem was raised during the entire stay, and then a noticeably lower rating is given without any explanation, that is no longer useful or constructive feedback. It creates the impression of a consumer attitude in which hospitality is taken for granted: the host is expected to provide everything, ensure comfort, and remain constantly available, while not deserving even basic courtesy, a response, or an explanation of why the work was rated lower. This is not a large, faceless hotel. Behind this property is one individual person who is personally responsible for the cleanliness, comfort, and experience of every guest. A host is not anonymous service staff whose only role is to meet demands. All previous guests have highly rated my hospitality and the quality of their stay. An unexplained low rating gives the host no opportunity to understand or correct any supposed shortcoming and says less about the quality of the accommodation than about the guest’s dismissive attitude toward another person’s work and hospitality.
