à propos de cet hébergement
Historic Family Cabin on Lake Burntside
About this space
Our rustic log cabin on Lake Burntside was one of the first cabins to be built on the North Arm back in the 1930s. It is the quintessential Minnesota family cabin filled with artifacts from many generations of family. Swim at the dock, enjoy an evening paddle, relax and watch the lake from the screened in porch, read on the hammock or play games in the sunroom on a rainy day. Hiking trails start just across the road. There is something for everyone in the family!
The space
The property consists of 5 acres of lakefront on the North Arm of Burntside and another 10 acres on the forested side of the road. The North Arm is known as a haven for people who appreciate wilderness. This section of the lake is very secluded, the water is clear and pristine, and there are very few motorized boats. Often, our guests come seeking a private, relaxed, and unplugged environment that our estate uniquely provides. Our property is literally on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Most of the time it is incredibly quiet, apart from the singing loons.
The cabin is furnished with midcentury antiques inherited from our parents, and filled with collections of books, records, games, artwork, and other artifacts from our time living in Asia. The kitchens are fully equipped for anything you want to cook or bake. It is truly the quintessential family cabin and we hope you love it as much as we do.
The overall aesthetic of the original cabin is stunning, with many signs of careful craftsmanship from a bygone era such as hand notched logs, hand pegged floors, and a spectacular fireplace built by âStone-a-Day Brownâ. The dining room is enclosed by french paned windows and there is a lovely screened in porch facing the lake. We guarantee you'll spend many hours reading, talking and loafing on the porch. Inside, the primary bedroom has a queen size bed and a twin size folding cot. The second bedroom has two twin beds. A second cabin, closer to the lake, contains one bedroom with a queen bed. It's a great get away for couples.
Please note that this historic cabins has modest, or rustic, facilities, e.g. no dishwasher, TV, or WiFi. The original cabin has one bathroom in the basement and an outhouse for fresh air enthusiasts. The downstairs bathroom does have a shower but please be aware the ceiling height is quite low. There is no bathroom in the guest cabin.
Outside, a private dock sits directly in front of the two cabins. There is room to swim, to launch canoes, and to tie up your own boat. We provide canoes, mountain bikes, floaties, and other lake toys. We also have a small fishing boat (14', 9.9hp) that can be rented separately. While tranquility and singing loons are the norm, please note voices from shoreside events at a nearby YMCA camp do carry across the water but usually at predictable times.
Finally, please note these are family cabins on the edge of a wilderness area. You may still see downed logs from the great storm of 2022. Know that we intentionally leave the landscaping very natural to benefit the wildlife whose home it is.
Directly in front of the cabins is the dock with an adjacent swimming area and room to tie up a boat. There are several chairs for comfortable reading and relaxing.
Outside the kitchen is a charcoal grill and picnic tables that get a nice breeze from the lake. We also have two canoes and two mountain bikes for use. Paddles and life jackets can be found in the stone house.
Guest access
The cabin and guest is for your private use. However, the dock area is shared with your hosts though we are not there often.
Other things to note
We have a limited capacity to do wash so itâs very much appreciated if you bring beach towels of your own.
