Beautifully appointed gite with wonderful garden
Les Cireys is a beautiful apartment below the owners' house, a grand, historic building overlooking the village of Tremolat. Well appointed and stylishly decorated by our genial hosts Lindsay and Geoff, the cosy bedroom is above the dining area and kitchen (with its views of the garden), and the large living room is lovely for relaxing in front of the telly (complete with UK channels). The layout and substantial walls result in a great deal of privacy despite being part of the same building. The delightful large garden is for the sole use of the guests, while the private terrace is a fantastic place to watch the sun go down. It's less than ten minutes' walk down a country lane into the village with its selection of restaurants. A couple of kilometres drive from the Cingle de Tremolat, it's also handy for many of the region's finest sights - 30-40 minutes to Bergerac, Lez Eyzies (for cave art), La Roque-Gageac, canoe centres and the chateaux of Beynac, Milandes and Castelnaud. We’d happily return.
Thank you Gareth and Jeanette for your lovely comments,
It’s always very rewarding for us when people appreciate the effort we put in to make our guests holiday as enjoyable as we can.
It was a pleasure to have you stay with us and we look to seeing you again .
Best Wishes Geoff and Lindsay.
Wonderful relaxing holiday
Cheerfully eccentric old building with the great merit of a large airy and cool living room to which we could retreat in really hot weather. A lovely garden to sit in - (the hosts have their own). Every morning a 10- minute stroll to the boulangerie for bread and croissants. Tremolat also has among the finest of the fortress churches in the area with unique wall paintings, fabulous acoustics and another cool space. And the 10 minute stroll also takes you to a small tourism office where the lady behind the desk is a mine of information. Good choice of eating 3 places - reasonable, quality pricey, and outrageous! Central for sights of the Dordogne, but it was too hot to do much so we just enjoyed the gite and Tremolat.
A well presented gite in a quiet location
Sadly this property did not suit us . The living room was delightful and comfortably furnished. The rest of the house was totally impractical.
The wooden steps up to the bedroom had an awkward bend with overhanging treads.
The kitchen area was accessed by 3 very steep steps so carrying anything down to the dining table in the entrance hallway was hazardous.
The shower Room/Toilet was off the Living Room.
The 'wardrobe' was in the entrance hall.
Unfortunately, we had 3 very cold days even though it was mid May. The gas stove in the living room was inadequate and no additional heating was offered,( even though we asked,) although fans were supplied for hot weather.
Not the best of experiences.
We are genuinely sorry and slightly perplexed having read your review.
We are very proud of the beautiful, stylish and comfortable property that we offer to a very high standard.
Sadly, for reasons of your own ( which are clearly not shared by our previous 17 reviews of 5 stars) our elegant and unique accommodation, as per your review
“did not suit you”.
However, I feel that in the interest of clarity, we should address your points as you made them.
You begin by saying that we have a well presented gite in a quiet location and that the living room was delightful and comfortably furnished but then continue by saying that the stairs to the bedroom had an awkward turn and overhanging steps?...
The staircase is a little quirky, as you might imagine in a house of this age, but unless you have mobility problems it doesn’t normally pose any issues.
The kitchen is accessed by three standard steps, as it was formally the bread oven for the property and most guests are delighted by its character.
The next comment left us baffled, the wardrobe is, as is quite obvious in our photos, in our dining room, as is the dining table and dresser. We do not have a hallway of any description as the dining room is accessed directly from the back door and your insistence on referring to it as a hall is mystifying.
We did unfortunately have a rather inclement week and it was unseasonably cold. As we say in our description of our gite, we provide an attractive gas fired log burner. This is meant as an additional facility if the evenings are cool, and we do not profess to offer heating. We found it interesting that despite your comments, you left the heater with over half a bottle of gas unused.
We wish you strength in finding happiness in your future holidays.
Beautiful and unique accommodation in glorious Dordogne rural village.
Terrific accommodation, quite quirky and feels very French. Very high quality inside and lovely garden outside. Fabulous area with great walks both by the river and into the hills and forests surrounding. Very discreet owners but helpful when required. A perfect stay.
