House has lots of games and outdoor space that made for excellent family time. Also a great launching spot for the creeper trail. Host was very communicative and helpful before and during our trip.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Shady House. The atmosphere was homey and the host was beyond accommodating. The only issue was, we would have liked to stay longer than our schedules allowed. The sudden cold weather front that moved in could have been an issue but our host had everything covered and we were warm and cozy throughout.
The setting is rural, the scenery is breathtaking, and we look forward to coming back.
Thank you, Kate!
Kate provides a wonderful place for your family or group to enjoy. She is a very thoughtful owner who provides many extra items and details that make your stay at the Shady House a great experience.
This property is very well maintained. We were very impressed with the owner's attention to us ensuring our every need was met. The game room was tons of fun for all of us. We would certainly book again.
The owner was very helpful with planning our weekend. We were in town to ride the creeper trail. The house we spacious and kid friendly. It was just what we needed for us to enjoy the bike ride.
Amazing view, fabulous host, clean and well appointed home!
Kate is a super host! Excellent communication before, during and after our stay. Home had everything we needed! Beautiful property -- a great place to get away! Will definitely stay here again! Thank you for sharing your home with us!
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving visiting children and grandchildren. The house was perfect for our active family. Kate was very accommodating! Hope to visit again!
We loved the house, particularly the history and the character. Spotlessly clean, lots of room, big yard, and all the furnishings were nice and comfortable. Great communication with the owner who took pains to make sure our stay was complete and trouble free. We will be coming back!
Perfect place for large or small crowd. Home was well stocked with anything that could possibly imagine needing! Nice touches throughout the home. Nice large yard with plenty of room inside and out.
Would definitely recommend and will be returning in the future!
Great place for a large family and beautiful, mountain area!
Kate was so friendly and helpful throughout the planning process and even during our stay. The house has a lot of space for larger families and/or kids. House has a nice layout with a large, open area for entertainment. The house was also in very close proximity to several desired locations for biking, hiking, shopping, sightseeing, etc. We had a great experience at the Shady House!
The Shady House is always perfect. This was our third trip to the property and definitely not our last. It truly has become our home away from home and will be a part of my childrenâs memories for the rest of their lives.
There is so much to do in the area, but the house itâs self is a destination. The owner Kate is beyond accommodating and a very gracious host
This was our fourth trip to the Shady House, and itâs like a home away from home for my family. There is so much to do in the area, but the house itâs self is a destination. It truly is like staying with family. Kate goes out of her way to be sure you are comfortable.
Weâve made a lifetime of memories here, and will definitely be back!
My family had a great weekend!! The house was perfect for us. Kate had everything there we could need or want! When she said "just bring your clothes and food", she meant it. The game room and ping pong table were a big hit with our family. We did the Creeper Trail while we stayed here, which is nice and close! We will definitely be visiting again.
Me and my brother and 4 friends stayed for 5 days and we absolutely loved the old style historic home. We were there for the race weekend at Bristol. Enjoyed the fire pit at night and all the amenities. Mrs. Kate supplied everything needed to have a great stay and answered any questions we had. Probably the nicest owner Iâve ever dealt with on rentals. Hope to return next year. Oh, and the shady valley store about 200 yards away has delicious food and super nice people.
A cozy house with a wonderful history, a great location (close the the VA Creeper Trail) and a very hospitable owner. We are already planning to return to Shady Valley & the Shady House. We sat for hours on the front porch and saw more deer and tractors than cars. The Shady House can handle a large group and give everyone space. A very peaceful setting. BG, Taylors, SC
Kate went out of her way to make sure our family had everything we needed. The large game room had plenty of fun and games for the kids and all 23 of us were able to sit together for our Thanksgiving dinner. The house was well stocked and Kate said to let her know if we needed anything else. We had a wonderful time and hope to meet there again for another family get together. Clean, neat, and "homey"...you can't go wrong with this home away from home!
Kate, the owner, was wonderful to work with. She gave us helpful tips and provided everything we needed for our weekend stay. The house was super clean and very comfortable. Plenty of room for our large group to spread out. We cooked, had a bonfire, roasted marshmellows, rode the Creeper Trail, played ping pong, cards, and laughed alot. The house was only 25 minutes away from Damascus where we rented our bikes. The Shady House was a peaceful oasis that I would recommend for large groups.
Our first impression was this may not be big enough; we were fooled! The place is large and plenty of room for adults with dogs. Fully equipped kitchen from Keurig, to crockpot, to china for the holidays. Hand sanitizer was abundant throughout the house. Bathrooms were fully furnished with bathroom amenties. If you are looking for game time, this place has a ping pong table, lots of games from board games to poker and darts. The outside fire pit was a treat our first night. The property manager was very engaged and resourceful.
Kitchen was nice and was very well equipped. Lighting in the living (front) room could be brighter, as well as the ping pong room. Back middle bedroom bed mattress not very firm and was very shaky. Drinking and all toilet water had brownish discoloration and had a faint smell of iron. Otherwise the house was spacious, cozy and fun for all of our group to spend time together in!!! Thank you
This home belonged to my grandparents. They owned and operated a general store on one side and lived and raised my mother and her 2 siblings on the other side. The old store has been turned into an amazing game and social area. I grew up roaming these mountains and am proud to have been raised in such a beautiful place. Every Sunday after church, we drove over the mountains and through the woods, to grandmothers house we went. My family has history in Shady Valley going back over 200 years. I could not stand the thought of this amazing place, just sitting there. My only sister died Jan 4th 2015 - my life crumbled. I retreated to the mountains. I was saved by renovating The Shady House. I poured my grief into every blister, splinter, debt, sweat and after a year, I feel I have worked enough to start enjoying life again. Now, it is important for me to show as many people as I can just how theraputic the mountains can be.
Social distance is easy in a spacious home ! A 3000 square foot home with several gathering spaces.
Location is perfect for so many different activities. Fisherman can find an abundance of fishing. South Holston Lake and Watauga Lake are the 2 large mountain bordered lakes just down either side of the mountais. There are rivers rivers everywhere! Close to The Virginia Creeper Trail, Bristol Motor Speedway, Rafting, Outdoor Adventures OF EVERY KIND all around you. Shopping and dining only a 30 minute drive from the seclusion.
Best for Large Families or Small Groups under 14. Formerly a home on one side and a general store on the other, this very large open space has been completely renovated to serve mountain tourists. Over an acre of flat yard space offers a gaming net, fire pit, horse shoes, corn hole, and several tables, chairs and benches. The surrounding views of the joining three mountain ranges, add to the perfection of this unique property.
