Unique stay in an old one room school house. Very quiet area, close to hiking trails. The house itself was very clean, lots of windows to take in the view, the water in the shower was nice and hot, well-equipped kitchen. The king bed was especially comfortable! Sandwich is a charming town just a few miles away. Really lovely getaway, I wish we could have stayed there longer.
Beautiful property!! Tastefully furnished so as not to detract from the single room schoolhouse structure! Enjoyed our 2 day stay very much while we explored the White Mountains.
The Chicksâ Corner Schoolhouse is absolutely charming! Beautiful decor, luxurious bed, very comfortable living room and dining area. Every detail has been thought of- there is even a book about historical New Hampshire schoolhouses featuring the Chicksâ Corner Schoolhouse on both covers! 10/10
We thought the Cozy Schoolhouse was great. The host couldn't be more helpful or accommodating, The recommendation of The Foothills restaurant was a winner.
Sandwich is a special town and the Chicks Corner School is a unique space. Perfect for my husband and I. Comfortable bed, hot showers, fluffy towels. It was wonderful. We travel a lot and have slept in all types of spaces - from vintage to luxury - and this one has created a great memory. Thank you!
We arrived in the pouring rain, and the code that was provided to us to get in was not correct. We had to wait for a response from the owner to get this error fixed.Upon walking in the place, it smelled very musty, and we attributed that to the warm weather, and the house being closed up. Then, we opened up the bathroom door, and was overcome by the smell of septic. Again, we thought old house. We flushed the toilet, and ran some water in the sink. We left the house for a few hours and came back for showers, and we were greeted with the same pungent stench of septic. We flushed and started the shower, and you could smell the septic coming up through the shower drain. To make matters even worse, the windows in the bathroom do not open nor is there a ceiling fan in there. We checked out super early, and sure enough you could smell the same exact smell surrounding the home outside. Also, this home sits upon a very well traveled road so street noise is constant. It's really a shame because the home itself was clean, has a/c, and lots of eclectic decor, but unfortunately our stay was atrocious.
We stayed 2 nights and it was absolutely adorable. Comfy and cozy. Super quiet, very beautiful area. We would definitely like to go back and stay longer. Check-in was smooth, the door is a tiny bit tricky to get into, but the host did tell us that. Once we got the hang of it, it was easy! Stay, you wont regret it!
This schoolhouse was so much fun to stay in. Cute, clean, and cozy! My 9 year old loved it too. Really close to Sandwich Center and everything youâd want to do.
Owner is willing to remedy issues and was communicative. Iâm fully confident that you will have a lovely stay at this property. Sandwich, NH is a beautiful little town with a friendly and inviting community of people.
Everything was fabulous. From the antique school house items to the great shower head, we loved the atmosphere and decor. If we ever come back to the area, we would choose this one of a kind experience again for sure :)
My family and I enjoyed our stay in the school house. The area was peaceful, and the house itself was neat. The bed was comfy and the place was clean. Check in and out was simple with great communication from the host. They even gave guest passes for the local area if we wanted to venture out into the town. I would stay here again if traveling through the area.
We had a delightful stay at the schoolhouse. Good access to several local trails including Mount Morgan with some beautiful views of Squam Lake, and not a bad drive from the Whites. Reasonably priced. Only small thing to note was that shampoo/body wash are not provided so youâll want to bring those. It was adorably decoratedâone equine decoration in particular was worth the visit alone. We would definitely come back!
This is a great place between Center Sandwich and Holderness, an old school house off of the main road. Nicely furnished and appointed. Comfortable bed and nice bathroom with shower. Kitchen is a bit limited. No working kitchen sink, but one is there so maybe in the near future. No real cooktop, so if you want to cook that way, you should bring a camp stove or hot plate plus necessary pans.
Including all the reasons we gave it 5 stars, this was the perfect place to stay for a wedding in Tamworth--the schoolhouse is as charming as the Center Sandwich area. Brendan was very accommodating and made it all so easy and convenient.
I'm the 4th generation of Tompkins' at Chick's Corner. My great grandfather, Maj. General William F. Tompkins, purchased the property with his wife. "Daddybill" and "Mammybill" as they were known, spent thier summers at the property. They were good friends with Ike and Mamie Eisenhower - having been classmates at West Point (class of '15 - "the class the stars fell upon") and the ex president and his wife visited a time or two.
