My friend and I loved our stay in this carriage house. It was easy to find yet very secluded. A perfect base to explore the island. Property was very clean and well maintained. The balcony over the bay was a perfect place to watch the weather change over the beautiful bay. The manager was very prompt in answering the few questions we had.
We adored our stay at the Carriage House - the place was cozy, quiet, and equipped with everything we needed. Great fires in the wood stove, star and seal gazing from the deck, and a nice escape from the bustle of the busier parts of the island. Highly recommend!
The Carriage House is our favorite place to stay in Maine. The location is fabulous, the house is quirky and comfortable, and the deck is right on the water with a great view of Green Island (also owned by the Kales). When we were there in September, an osprey was in the habit of perching on a dead limb just around the cove until a bald eagle chased it off. A kingfisher was also active, the seals were on their rock, and we saw and heard a loon. Perfection!
As ever, we totally enjoyed our stay at the Carriage House. There's nothing better than sitting on the deck in the absolute silence broken only by the far-off barking of seals lounging on the offshore rocks at low tide. The house is well-equipped, the beds are comfortable, and the new bedroom and walk-in shower are delightful. We'll be back next year.
I enjoyed every minute of my stay at the carriage house at green island. The location was very remote and relaxing with the only neighbor tucked behind thick trees. Good nature watching with the seals napping on the nearby rocks - the breakfast nook and patio overhanging the water were perfect for reading and enjoying the spectacular views (especially the sunsets). The new main bedroom addition + bathroom were very well done and the bed was so comfortable - I slept so well my whole stay. Kitchen was well stocked with everything you'd need (fresh fish and lobster were sold about 15 minutes away at Parsons Lobster). Very convenient to all Mount Desert Island has to offer.
I stayed there with family and friends, and it was great for our needs - whenever we were not adventuring around in Acadia or downtown Bar Harbor, we were hanging out in the lovely breakfast nook or watching for wildlife on the beautiful back porch. We brought our son's telescope from home and were able to watch the seals every day. We also had two bald eagles hang out about 100 feet from the porch one morning - our son loved it. Downtown Bar Harbor was only a 20 minute drive away. Our only critiques of the house were that the upstairs bathroom and spare bedroom could do with some updating to match the rest of the house (I might have been very jealous of our friends who stayed in the larger 1st floor bedroom which is absolutely stunning) and the wifi was very touch and go. If we ever vacationed in Bar Harbor again, we would definitely come back again - though I would insist that it was my turn for the first floor bedroom!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this cute rustic getaway on the water. We were fortunate enough to meet the owner and listen to the rich history.
The view was just awesome. We spent all our time at the cottage on the back porch watching the seals play. We even had 2 bald eagles land near the porch that we watched one day. I would definitely stay here again.
The house and grounds were beautiful, down an exciting winding road. It was everything we were looking for, with numerous nice touches. The master bedroom area was delightful, and we all appreciated the wood stove! Perhaps most of all, I liked the back deck, where I spent quite some time in contemplation, in the company of seals, loons and cormorants. We had a few questions, but those were effectively answered and taken care of by the property manager. All in all, a beautiful place!
Late 1880's home with all the modern updates. First floor master bedroom, bath and laundry recently added. Air-split, good linens and bed for comfortable sleeping. There are more rooms upstairs but we didn't use them. Open floor plan with room for seating, table with wrap around seating and water views. Beautiful vintage tableware, plenty of glasses and some baking and cookware but we searched the whole place and only found 1-salad fork, 1- fork, a couple of spoons and a knife so bring your own silverware. We rent houses so we can cook in the evenings and enjoy the spaces. There were some older spices and teas in the kitchen., several choices on coffee pots - French press, drip... cookware needed a good cleaning as did the cast iron pots. There is a deck off the main room with seating and lovely views. Prefect for coffee in the morning. Wi-Fi is available but very limited - we used our phones to create hotspots. Wonderful serene spot for a quiet getaway. There are museums, micro-brewery and good fresh restaurants nearby for takeout and good hiking trails outside of Acadia.
This was an awesome location right on the waters edge. Very secluded from all the activity on the island. It was very interesting to observe the tide come in and go out right outside the window. The master bedroom was just constructed last year, so it is in very nice condition. My wife and I would definitely go back when in the area. We stayed for 5 nights
We were thrilled with the secluded location of this charming house. The cove is a wonderful spot with warm water for swimming and we quickly rented a kayak and a standup paddle board from a nearby place, which provided delivery and pickup. Away from the hustle and bustle but still only about 20 minutes from the carriage roads for biking and to hikes and beaches. The house itself was neat and clean and the newly renovated master suite was lovely.
This was our 2nd stay at the Carriage House. The new bedroom and bath are spacious with a nice shower and a very comfortable king-sized bed. The deck is one of my favorite places ever: beautiful view and blissful quiet.
We enjoyed our stay here so much! The deck is just feet from the edge of the water. We spent hours watching the seals, loons, and other birds and basking in the incredible quiet. The beds were comfortable and the house well kept. A couple of details that we really appreciated: the kitchen knives were actually very sharp and the linens were washed in unscented laundry detergent, neither of which I have ever experienced in a rental before.
This is our 2nd stay. Major improvements to property since our 1st time and more in the works. Just love how unspoiled and off the beaten path the Carriage House is, especially because it's so close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. All the comforts of home, but not too many. Love this place.
The Carriage House is a total oasis. The views from the deck are incredible. Coming back from hiking in Acadia, the first thing me and my daughter would do is go out on the deck and look for the seals. The house has everything you need. We were sad to leave. Hopefully we will get to make it back someday.
Wow! What an incredible stay in this cozy cabin by the sea! Our boys (10 &7) spent hours combing the tidepools looking for crabs, snails and clams. Absolutely must rent kayaks. We went out daily and saw so much...had a few curious harbor seals even follow us around one day. Although able to enjoy feeling secluded, we were a short drive from all Bar Harbor and Acadia have to offer. We wished we had booked 2 weeks instead of 1!
Couldn't have had a more ideal stay. The location is not only beautiful, but the quiet seclusion is perfect after a day spent in the park. The deck overlooks the water. We enjoyed watching the seals and the gorgeous view. Nothing beats the way the forest meets the sea in Coastal Maine... The house is very clean and well equipped. You can feel its history, which, in my opinion is wonderful and beats the sparse white newly furnished "perfect" rentals. Susan was very responsive and provided us with everything we needed. This is, by far, one of my favorite stays- just loved everything about it!
This property is perfect for two couples looking for a romantic getaway, two couples who want to vacation together with 3 children. Well behaved dogs are welcome.
The Carriage House is quiet and peaceful, the views are incredible, the architecture is unique and it's a kayakers paradise. A truly great place to explore Acadia and MDI.
