The Kiwi Lodge team is very disappointed to learn of this guest's experience! The vast majority of our many visitors since 2011 are highly enthusiastic. Several return yearly. A very few leave complaints. We review them with great care. This guest's list has some completely new items. There were few questions before arrival. There was a sudden, very early cold snap - Sept 8! Heat was turned on in response. There are electric radiant heaters in the house. We checked with hot tub company, gave guest information on use of hot tub jets, asked if further help needed but no response. Cleaners checked, said jets are working! Numbers/types of boating equipment are clearly listed. There is no additional charge for these. We do not guarantee a kayak for every adult guest. Rentals can be arranged on request. Guest did report that the floating swim raft (not the dock) had become loose after sudden strong winds. This has never happened before. He had already tethered it before contacting me; we could have arranged for that. Grills are short-lived! New Weber onsite, photo soon. Photos are updated at least yearly, as vrbo requires. Wildlife, scenery shots usually remain. To reduce clutter, we minimise furniture. But, there are spacious closets and we added large shelves for clothing, shoe holders, many hangers. More towels can be provided but no one ever asks! There is a washer & dryer, detergent. We don't claim a remote location, but a quiet, private, beautiful place.

Katherine, you highlighted some of our priority focus areas in your comments on the house! We like to keep the Kiwi Lodge as comfortable for guests as for ourselves. This rural area of Maine has a lot to offer visitors who love the outdoors, it takes a long time just to find a few of them! We hope you can return.

Unfortunately we cannot control the weather or bandwidth for Wifi! The current ISP says they cannot improve so we'll switch to satellite. There really are lots of things to do even in rainy weather as many previous guests have stated. Potential guests please note - this is a log house in a quiet area of rural Maine. It rains in Maine. You'll need the flexibility and resourcefulness to know how to enjoy yourselves regardless!

Good to know this group enjoyed their stay. We emphasize that this is a log house in a quiet rural location. Log houses are made of brown logs; they will be darker inside than a house with light walls. There are many lights and lamps inside, most with 100w LEDs, which can be moved around for reading, playing board games, etc. There are many windows, both to give light but also so the occupants can enjoy the beauty of the trees and water surrounding the house on three and a half sides. That's why we go to Maine! It's a shame that this group felt exposed but it was a feeling, not a reality. There was no one to see them!

Ken, I could not have described a vacation at Kiwi Lodge any better myself! You can see why my family and I love it so much. Thank you too for highlighting the activities you especially enjoyed. Others have recommended the Farmhouse Beer Garden; my family are going there this week during our own summer vacation week at Kiwi Lodge!

It is a privilege to think that our family's property in Maine was able to provide both solace and enjoyment to Dot's family. Our goal is to offer a place for a family to enjoy each other's company as well as the many beauties of Maine's renowned vacationland. Seems that goal was certainly met in the case of this family!
