Beautiful Location reminiscent of Sanford and Son, beware!

First of all, I have to say this is a really nice home, with a nice layout in a beautiful setting. That's where the good part about this property ends. The grounds of the house had junk literally EVERYWHERE, we had to take pictures because it was so unbelievable. There were multiple rusty oven grates leaning up against the house, a creepy mannequin on the front porch in a box of junk, and all around the exterior of the house were fans, lamps, drawers, wood stove, wine bottles (empty), stools, buckets, planters, wheel barrels, doors, wood sheets for siding and even an empty bathtub! Dangerous for kids and pets. Inside the house, there were cleaning supplies, ladders, flooring, bags of mortar, more fans, random lights, old PC equipment just piled on top of each other and in corners, plus random used shoe soles on the window ledge. In addition, we reserved the house over new year's holiday and ensured via the amenity listing on VRBO that the house had cable and/or satellite TV to watch the games on New Year's Day - per listing it had both. When we tried to get the TV to work (we spent 4 hours), we were advised the satellite TV had gone out before our arrival and it wasn't working, would have been nice to know that beforehand. When asked about the Cable TV that was in the listing, they denied that was in the listing and stopped responding after that. However, the HO did reimburse us $150. For $500 plus a night, this property was not as expected. It is about 10-15 min either way of skiing, not terribly close so not sure why they feel that it was worth $500 plus. If they cleaned up the grounds and got rid of the clutter, it would make sense. This is probably my 20th property I have reserved at a home rental and this is the FIRST time I have ever been so disappointed in a property AND first time I have ever given such a review

Really nice vacation house with a stream by the camp fire

We totally enjoyed the stay, especially the house allows pets. The camp fire by the stream is very special. The deck outside the bedroom has good view, will be very nice in the fall. The kids want to go back already.

It was beautiful, the view from my room, the peaceful voice of the water from the small creek running next to the property. The interior was so beautiful. Every corner had it's own special charm. Will love to visit again.

Large home in quiet and beautiful location

Upon arriving at the home it was evident the pictures of the outside were taken many years ago or that the property seemed in need of some attention. Everything was untidy and not as appealing to the eye as I anticipated. The size of the home is more than adequate although the refrigerator could never accommodate the amount of people that are allowed to reside there., it is so small and holds very little food. The kitchen ware , pots and pans are a mess… so old and in bad shape. There are plenty of dishes however, glass ware etc. we went in the summer for a family get together and had a lot of difficulty staying comfortable as the rooms got quite warm especially at night. The showers and tub was awesome and the water pressure was amazing . The huge wrap around deck was a nice feature and we enjoyed it very much. The biggest dissapointment was the grill, it is not to be. Used per a sign on it by the owner and a small charcoal grill was to be provided instead but it wasn’t, no other grill was present. This was a bummer as we looked forward to grilling out even buying food for the occasion but couldn’t do it. Over all it was just ok, a little too run down for my taste and I would probably choose another house next time. The surroundings were beautiful however and we did get in some amazing hiking as well as dining in nearby towns just be prepared to wait An hour for each place you eat, they are understaffed and the only place to eat in town it seems no matter where you choose…lol. The grocery store and wine & liquor mart are more than adequate and only a 5 min drive from the house . There is also an ice cream place in same location that is fantastic. Another bummer is only one bedroom had a tv and the wifi is non existent despite being given a wifi password, it just didn’t work except on a rare occasion in a certain area of the house but only occasionally.

Beautiful cabin

The pictures don't do it justice, very pretty property. Everything was very clean. A little hard to get to and no ubers available, but I assume with a little research one could find a local taxi service. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a large meal but we thought a bit light on TP and paper towel. All in all a great place to stay, my group unanimously would visit again!

Beautiful area; house

WiFi did not work; power went out during a rainstorm for ~10hours; security cameras in a few locations made the stay feel a bit impersonal. Not the cleanest place. But an absolutely beautiful backyard with a lovely brook - we had quite a nice hike for about a mile up the mountain.

The owner and property manager were great with communication. There's plenty of room and we had everything we needed. We were so comfortable. I want to return in the summer. The property is secluded and so peaceful.

Gorgeous lodge with breathtaking views

The home was gorgeous and very functional. The large, open, beautiful kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed for cooking and hanging out. It was one of our favorite living spaces. The beds were really comfortable, the bathrooms were nice, the library and bar and living space downstairs was very comfortable and great for hanging out as well. We spent most of our time out on the deck with the amazing view of the mountains! I loved the beautiful stream next to the house. The sound of the babbling brook was so soothing. The house has lots of windows, skylights and natural light. You really feel the beauty of nature all around you. The decor was unique and eclectic. We had a wonderful time and would definitely love to stay here again. Thank you for a great experience!

Upstate Gem! GORGEOUS HOUSE

This house is absolutely beautiful. It completely blew away our expectations. It was so well decorated and filled with so many interesting items. The beds were extremely comfortable and we had plenty of space. The kitchen is massive and is where we spent most of our time. I do want to point out that the fridge is very tiny so make sure you bring coolers. Also there is no WiFi / service and hotspots don’t work but the disconnect really gets you to enjoy your surroundings (especially this stunning house). The living room was so cozy and the entire house really made us all feel like we were home. The wrap around deck is perfect to hang out on and the view is stellar! The location couldn’t of been better with a supermarket, liquor store and ice cream shop 3 miles down the road. Michelle and Eric were very responsive and helped us with all our questions. Overall the pictures online don’t do this house justice. This is a total gem and we can’t wait to come back!!!!

This house blew my expectation!

This is the perfect house with some of the best views you could ever imagine! It has everything you need and is ultra homey. Highly recommend staying here if you’re in the area. You won’t be disappointed. Bonus that it’s only a short drive from Hunter Mountain!

Perfect space for a weekend retreat! Secluded cabin near the slopes

We had a group of eight stay here for a ski weekend and can't say enough good things about the home! It's very clear that the home owners care about their space because it is well kept and designed for comfort. (The beds were some of the nicest I have experienced through a rental!) And the home lended itself for some quality downtime and relaxation. We're already talking about our next trip back! One thing to note - there is no wifi and the house phone is only programmed to call 911. Therefore, you will be "off-the-grid" while on the premises. Be sure to plan accordingly!

A great space for large groups.

Went there with another family (Total 8) and never felt crowded. Kitchen is a great space for everyone to cook, have a cocktail, and socialize. Living Room wood stove with said cocktail was a welcome respite for some alone time. Some serious books there if I had a few months to sit and read. Solzhenitsyn, Dostoevsky, Elie Wiesel... Well appointed with furniture and very comfortable beds. The Radiant heat in the second floor bathroom gives an extra level of luxury. Two constructive criticisms: 1. First floor bar / living room area would benefit from an office fridge for beer / soft drinks. 2. A guest WiFi signal would be wonderful. Cell / Satellite service is non - existent save for a weak 3G signal in the second floor front of the house. I have a place in the Adirondacks myself, so I'm kinda used to being inconvenienced, and waiting until I get home to make calls or look something up online. But for a rental property in the streaming / Netflix age it should be a standard. (If I could, I'd take away maybe 1/8 of a star for that, no hard feelings I hope...)

Spectacular home in the mountains. Perfect for a family ski getaway.

Exactly ten minutes from Windham mountain, the home was perfect for our ski vacation needs. Stunning views, heated floors in the bathroom and a shower with water just the way you like it after being on the mountain all day: hot, hot, hot.

Amazing property, Location, and Amenities

Where do I start? This house is on a very wild and breathtaking hillside in the heart of The Catskills. The interior is very luxurious, while simultaneously being rustic and authentic. The property has a brook running through it and is entirely surrounded by completely un-touched forest that makes for an amazing hike. The two grills and large kitchen making cooking fun and easy. The views from both decks and almost all over the property are phenomenal and breathtaking. While the area has grocery stores around such as Tops, it is highly recommended you bring your own meats, fish, and poultry from NYC if that is where you're commuting from as the selection is quite poor. Eric is a great host and was prompt with responding to all of our questions .

wonderful house - good price - a few 'buts'

We stayed at the house with a group of friends (10 people). the house is wonderful, huge, large open spaces, many windows and some really cool architectural features. Compared to other houses in the area at this time of the year, the price / night is very cheap. We enjoyed our stay and despite the negative comments below, would love to come back. There are just a few things that I want to mention for future consideration. - AFTER I made the booking and payment we were informed that you need a 4-wheel drive. And you do definitely need it if there's snow! We had three cars; one of them didnt make it up the dirt road leading to the house and the other one didn't even make it up the steep hill leading to the dirtroad - the clean towels were hidden in the drier and we didnt find them until we started doing laundry before we left - the upstairs bathroom doesn't lock - there was no dishwasher detergent - doing dishes for 10 people is really no fun - the sleeping situation is a little strange: there are 2 rooms with a queen, 1 room with 1 twin bed and 1 room with 2 twin beds (the beds are all quite short and not for people over 6'). the house is advertised to sleep 10 people, so the remaining 3 guests have to sleep in the living room on pull-out couches, but the couches can't actually be pulled out because of the way they are arranged in the room. Sounds travels from everywhere in the house, especially from the open kitchen, to the living room so whoever sleeps there won't be able to fall asleep until everybody else does. - the downstairs fridge was not working and the small fridge in the kitchen filled up quickly with food and drinks for 10 guests Some guests mentioned that the house was not clean enough. This situation seems to have been fixed - or at least there were no complaints from our end.

Home full of character and pleasant surprises!

My family found this home to be architecturally amazing and full of character and pleasant surprises! The downstairs bar and huge TV were a huge hit after a long day of hitting the slopes! The upstairs massive kitchen with the cathedral ceiling made it a pleasure to cook and entertain. The radiant heat in the bathroom floors was a welcome luxury. The bedrooms and beds were a little small compared to the size of the house, but we managed. One suggestion I would make is to bring wood for the wood burning stove. It would make the whole experience of spending a weekend in the mountains even more enjoyable. We would definitely rent it again!

Spacious Cabin in the Catskills

Overall, we had a lovely experience. The home was quite large, beautiful views, cozy... A few comments/recommendations: There are two sleep sofas, but only one is accessible (second sofa was on platform in media room); therefore, a few of our guests were forced to sleep curled up on the couch. This couch should be moved, or listing should be updated. Downstairs broiler was broken, therefore entry area was freezing! Based on our conversation with the gentleman who called us during our stay, it sounds like they knew it was broken, but neglected to fix for our arrival. Additionally, this house needs more sheets/blankets. For starters, some of the quilts on the beds had a horrible odor, so we were forced to do several loads of laundry upon arrival. Additionally, there was a handful of mismatched sheets and some dingy blankets in the closet, none of which we used without washing first. This should have been taken care of by the cleaning company, particularly since we had to pay a cleaning fee. While the house was by no means perfect, the overall experience was awesome and I would recommend. At the end of the day, the time with friends and the relaxing setting outweighed the few housekeeping items that needed to be addressed.
