Charming Historic Olde City Home - Close to Independence Malll
This is one of the oldest houses in Philadelphia built around 1763. When you come visit, you will see the house looks virtually identical to the Betsy Ross house. This house is small but very charming. Please note we do not accept local guests. We also need you to let us know the reason for your visit to Philadelphia.
The location is wonderful. Near the river, in Old City, close to a subway station and many restaurants and coffee shops. We did not use the house much for anything but sleeping since we had a lot of things going on with family in Philadelphia. Stairs to bedrooms are steep and curvy so take them slowly!
Loved this property and location!! If you are trying to decide whether to stay here, just book it!! It is cute and lovely place and the location is perfect to all the historic sites. We loved our stay and just wish we could have stayed longer. Your house offered a lovely place for our family to refresh on our roadtrip. Thank you and blessings!
This old house was so charming and I loved the stairs. Definitely tricky for folks with mobility issues and a little harder for us after a day of walking LOL but it was part of the charm. The location could not have been more perfect. SERIOUSLY. Close to the action and the farthest we walked was 31 minutes to the Magic Garden Museum. Felt very safe. Parking lots were close for 30/day; Never found one for less than that. We do agree with other reviewers that it would have been nice to have more comfortable seating in the living room to sit and read or relax after a long day but the furniture goes with the vibe of the home. The extras were appreciated (shampoo/conditioner/lotion, tissues, paper towels, Saran Wrap/foil, tons of spices, oils, coffee/tea).We were happy we were able to stay here and it helped make our visit to Philly so pleasurable. Thank you.
Enjoyed our stay in this home in the perfect location. Great for our small family to enjoy the city. Close proximity to food and attractions. House was clean, comfortable and host was very accommodating and friendly.
We loved the location of this home and was able to walk to all the bars and restaurants, plus down to the Delaware river. So much history in this area of the city to soak up! The home itself was clean and had everything we needed. The beds were very comfortable!
The place is charming - with fireplaces and winding stairways from colonial days, yet modern heating, and a bathroom and kitchen with all the amenities. We loved that there was a box of tissues in every room. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, and neighbors were friendly. We could walk to all the historical sites that we were interested in. And our host was most accommodating.
We had a great stay in the home. It worked well for our family. Close to all the rich history that we wanted to see. We were able to walk to most of the site or take a 10min uber ride to the rest. We had a good day and the kids enjoyed the unique nature of the home.
Not the most comfortable living space but beds and location were perfect for exploring Philly all day and needing a comfy and convenient space to lay our heads. We had a great weekend!
Great place, heads up the only bathroom is through a bedroom. Not a private space for the room.
Worked out perfectly, loved the historic vibe over all. Just a small amount of up keep needed. Paint on tub is pealing, etc. Over all we loved our stay! Helped the metro is so close and my son lives two blocks away.
Home was clean and well suited. Kitchen was well stocked, bed were comfortable and plenty of towel and wash clothes. The only downside was finding parking (parking lot down the street, 20 a day) and you have to walk through the master to the only bathroom. Would definitely stay again
This is our second time staying at the Cuthbert House. The home is so charming and the location is within walking distance of most of the big historic sites. Sophie is very accommodating and was willing to work with us on a late check out due to our flight leaving later in the day. I truly canât imagine staying anywhere else when our family adventures in Philadelphia!
Getting to stay in this historic home was such a perfect way to see the Old City sights in Philadelphia. It is on a small cobblestone street just like Elfreth's Alley, but without the crowds. It worked well for our family of five, but be prepared for an aging property, the bathroom through one of the bedrooms, and steep slippery stairs. The beds were comfortable though and the kitchen was well equipped.
My dad and I loved our stay in this amazing piece of history! This house is definitely old, unique, and in a great location if you're looking to walk around the old city. The listing is very true to the experience. The stairs are basically a spiral staircase to a landing. I definitely wouldn't recommend it if you have any mobility issues. I slept on the top floor and my dad slept in the smaller bedroom on the same level as the bathroom. I think it could be awkward to have someone sleep in the largest bedroom which you half to walk through to get to the restroom, but it would just depend on the comfort level of your group. There is a $30/day parking lot right behind the house but we didn't have a car until the day we were leaving town so I can't attest to it. You can technically drive a car down in front of the house but a regular car practically touches both sides of the sidewalk. I would 100% stay here again and was so happy this placed kicked off our trip through Pennsylvania.
