My husband and I had a wonderful stay at this apartment in Paris, just one block away from St, Germain-des-Pres church/metro. You have to retrieve the keys at a supermarket, a few blocks away, not great with the luggage, though manageable. We did find it extremely difficult to locate the apartment within the building, though. The apartments are not marked, and the floors are not marked, making it hard to tell what floor youâre on, yes I know that sounds crazy, but every floor had a half floor as well. The final unmarked door is unlocked and leads to a secret sixth floor. I wish it had been better marked because after carrying our heavy luggage up all those stairs we were sweaty and frustrated. Once we found the apartment, it was charming and just as advertised. Everything is very small and cozy, but completely adequate for our needs. The final staircase is extremely steep!
Our issue with this property was not with the location, which we gave 5 stars, nor the cleanliness, which we gave 5 stars. Our issue is with the location within the apartment complex. This is an "attic" apartment above the top floor. Meaning, this is a 5-story complex and the apartment is up a steep and narrow set of stairs leading to an attic space. I don't know what else to call it. The pictures are accurate, but the listing fails to mention where this is inside the complex. If it said "6th floor apartment no elevator" I never would have booked it. I'm sure that is why this is not part of the listing. We made the hike up with our luggage, struggled with the door a couple of times, and decided to move to a hotel room. The Host was very communicative until I told them of our dissatisfaction then they stopped replying to me at all. We had to pick up the key at a separate location about a 5-minute walk from the address, and when I asked about dropping the keys off the next day and days after, I received no reply. Repeated attempts to get in touch with them went unanswered. I called VRBO because I could not get in touch with the host, VRBO support called the contact that they had and it was the key drop company, not even the host. This means that while I'm in Paris at an apartment that I booked through VRBO, there was not host to talk to the entire week. Use caution when searching apartments. Moving out was the best thing we could have done.
Overall this property met our needs well. The location is great â love the 16th, metro practically at the doorstep, a small grocery just a couple doors down and a larger one just a couple of blocks away, walk to the Seine and many sights. Loved all that. The place is light and airy with high ceilings, bath/kitchen nicely updated. Very atmospheric decor. Manager responded quickly to our questions. As the listing warns, it is on the sixth floor with no elevator and the last flight is very steep. The kitchen has the basicis but is rather disorganized - dishes, pots and pans, etc. all shoved together pretty haphazardly. No automatic coffee maker (just a traditional brew-your-own expresso pot for the stove) which is a pain. There were no basic instructions for the appliances (we had to rummage in a cupboard and find instruction books and/or search for a pdf manual on the internet). A brief notebook with the basics would have been nice to know how to bake vs microwave, do laundry, etc. We did do laundry which took hours (probably operator error). The bed was good, but wish there were extra pillowcases for the extra pillows and the only duvet was very heavy for summer. It would have been nice to have more than 2 towels. Several of the lamps were without bulbs and there were no working lights in the office area. The balcony was not cleaned or swept. The chaise was the only seating and the cushion was soaked from the rains. Overall a good stay.
