This unique property is waiting for you to "ride" into days past, and have a great time in downtown Boyne City. You will be staying in a real caboose railcar that has been modified to offer all the comforts of home. With 2 sets of twin bunks you will be all set to let your adventure begin and have company with you! The property is just 2 blocks to downtown Boyne, and 3 blocks to the fabulous Avalanche Preserve for hiking, biking, skiing, sledding, ice skating, bird watching, and the best views overlooking Boyne and Lake Charlevoix you will find! You will have an outside firepit and grilling area all to yourself, and if you wish, the city beach is just 3 blocks down the hill for a beautiful summer dip in the crystal clear lake! All aboard!
It was a cool experience to stay in the train, the only thing I would change is the shower, small hot water tank so what they call a Navy shower lol (get wet shut water off soap up and then turn water back on to rinse) but I would definitely recommend staying with this host!
We throughly enjoyed our stay in this unique property! Marty has down an amazing job outfitting the caboose! It is comfortable, cozy and even contains some historic railroad memorabilia. An added plus is the close proximity to the downtown area.
Communication with Marty was seamless and efficient.
Highly recommend if you are looking for a unique experience!
Quiet. Great location. Nicely done inside. Bunk beds are sturdy but a bit narrow for an adult. Claw foot tub is lovely. Lock box convenient. A fun experience overall.
This was such a cute place to stay! The location was within walking distance of the downtown area, farmer's market, ice cream, etc. Nice side yard with room to play catch with the kids, firepit to use, etc. Just as described. Quiet location too, which was nice.
We loved the opportunity to stay in this caboose! It had everything we needed for a pleasant stay in this historical caboose. It is small - and don't plan to cook any meals - but there are many wonderful restaurants in walking distance. It is a wonderful place to stay to enjoy all that Boyne City has to offer in the summer, including a nearby beach.
Overall, we thought the train car was a unique experience and the kids loved it. It was restored nicely and is in an excellent location very close to town. I read the reviews and brought a large trash bag and that was helpful all that we needed. There was a small seating area that was added after the pictures. That was a nice addition.
The caboose was right up our alley. We drove into town and had our daughter close her eyes until we pulled up. She couldnât believe it. Even when we got in she couldnât believe that we were actually staying there. You are so close to town and the beach, which is why we were in town. We plan on booking again for the same time next year. It was also a huge bonus that would could bring our dog.
We had great fun staying in the caboose! It was very clean and offered lots of interest for us all. Great to see the restoration and renovation to make the most of the space. Very comfortable. Great location a short walk to downtown and the water.
The train was such a fun experience. Our six year old son was in awe and honestly so were my husband and I! It was so well done. The location was nice to be able to walk downtown for dinner. We went to the beach and enjoy the sunset. Only complaint is there was hardly any toilet paper and no Wi-Fi at the caboose.
Interesting property that you'll talk about for years. Had all the amenities promised and was a comfortable respite from a crazy 4th of July weekend in Boyne City. Beds were comfortable despite being a little skinny; kitchen had just enough to be functional without taking up all the space.
Check in and out was easy and the owners were accessible for the few questions we had.
The beds were comfy. The caboose is simple, cozy and clean. Staying in the caboose is like glamping! We enjoyed the small town of Boyne City. It has some nice restaurants, shops, ice cream shops. Easy walk into town from caboose. We rented a pontoon one day and went out on Lake Charlevoix. We visited near by Petoskey, Harbor Springs and Charlevoix. So many things to do and see in the area.
My wife, dog, and I thoroughly enjoyed our time. The caboose is a wonderfully unique venue in which to stay and take in the beautiful Boyne region.
It is a pleasant walk to downtown Boyne and Peninsula Beach, taking just a few minutes. Storefronts and restaurants abound.
The caboose is nicely restored. The owners dud a great job designing the interior layout, using equal space for sleeping, dining, and restroom spaces.
When you realize it was constructed in 1888, your stay in the caboose becomes a step back on time! We'll be back.
We love Boyne City and were looking for somewhere we could stay with our dog. There are such limited places. The Caboose was such a unique place to stay, so fun, and it has a huge yard to walk in the morning, and a fun fire pit. I highly recommend this property. We had 4 adults, (parents and 2 adult children) It was a little tight but we weren't in there much so it was fine. Very clean and neat.
Great stay in this unique setting, walking distance to downtown, and avalanche park.
The vintage train car has a bunk setup, which worked fine for our average sized family of four. Portable AC unit worked very well for our stay.
Host Marty was very flexible in allowing us to reschedule due to a late illness, which we really appreciated! Marty also provided some helpful info about the area.
Boyne City had much more than we expected, initially intended as a base for visits to Charlevoix, but we all preferred Boyne...with a lot to do, and great places to eat...especially GILDAS, which we had every morning for delicious crepes and pastries...don't miss it!
The only opportunities for improvement was the short supply of hot water for showers, and we couldn't get the hand held shower to work.. wouldn't divert completely from spigot. And the door wouldn't close fully unless you deadbolted it...neither a huge deal, but could make the great setting and stay even better!
This place is set up so cute. Wish I would have taken more pics before we had all of our stuff spread out everywhere! The bunk beds were fun and surprisingly comfy! Roomier than expected but a little bit nicer couch or chair to sit in after a long busy day would have been nice. The fire pit area is awesome and we had enough wood for fires for days!!! Love the board games and Boxcar children books!
Only two things as a few others mentioned: bathroom is clean and roomy and didnât mind the short showers but very difficult to wash long hair while having to hold the shower head.
There was no garbage can outside as mentioned and we had to go to the store to buy garbage bags since the one tiny wastebasket would not do us much good for 5 days!
Otherwise very cute and a fun experience! Wish we had discovered when my kids were smaller but even as teenagers they thought it was cool (well, as cool as teenagers can be expected to think!)
We had a lot of fun staying in the caboose. It is very small but cozy with cute decor. Little kitchenette area (dorm sized fridge and microwave), cute claw foot tub with a hand sprayer and small but comfortable bunks. I mentioned to my husband that it did feel like glamping. We stayed with our two kids (ages 9 & 11). There are no rails on the top bunks and the kids were nervous theyâd fall out so my husband and I slept up top, which was fine for us (we actually preferred it with the windows and lots of headroom) but just a heads up for anyone else planning to stay. The mattresses were extremely comfortable. Nice fire pit area with chairs and wood provided, though we didnât end up using it because we were too busy exploring the area. The location is perfect - on the Main Street into town but on the end in a quiet neighborhood. Walking distance to town, the marina, park and public beach. We felt extremely safe walking around and barely used our car while we were there. Gildaâs Bakery has wonderful pastries, especially recommend the cinnamon rolls. Also recommend Avalanche Preserve which is walking distance in the opposite direction of town. We hiked the trails in the afternoon and then went back in the evening to watch the sunset from the scenic overlook. Thanks for a fun stay!
