This property is just minutes from Acadia National Park. It was clean and nicely-furnished. Marilee was a pleasure to deal with, and the house felt like home. We would highly recommend this property and hope to come back again.
We had a marvelous time and hope to return. The cabin was beautifully laid out, comfortable and well-appointed. The location cannot be beat for convenience, yet has a feeling of privacy.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! We didnât want to leave and we canât wait to return.Excellent home base for exploring Acadia.Thank you Marilee and Ken!
Marilee was a great host, her cottages are cozily away from the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor, but still close enough to everything else you'd want to see on the island. Felt very taken care of, looking forward to another stay in the future!
Great location on the quieter side of the island, but convenient to get to the heart of Bar Harbor. The cottage is clean, comfortable and relaxing. We loved it! Appreciated the suggestions for local restaurants and hikes! Close to Beech Hill Farms for organic produce, scones, and other items. Would definitely stay here again!
Property was a nice size for two. Property grounds and neighborhood are very nice - park-like setting. Helpful information of nearby attractions. Overall an enjoyable/comfortable stay.
Lovely cottage with everything you will need. On the quiet side of MDI, and a short drive to Acadia NP. Plan to buy your major groceries in Ellsworth, then to Beech Hill Farm nearby for the best produce you will ever eat. Wonderful restaurants in nearby Southwest Harbor. If you want a totally relaxing vacation this is the place.
My wife and I stayed at this cottage for six nights. We were visiting Maine for the first time. Marilee could not have been more helpful. She was quick to respond to questions we had regarding the area. This cottage is perfectly located if you want to visit Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Love the cottage and our stay. Should we visit this area again we will definitely stay here.
I loved this light-filled, roomy cottage a half-mile off the main road in the village of Somesville. I had always stayed in Bar Harbor, but when my usual apartment went to long-term rentals this year, I decided it was time for a change. I truly didn't miss being in town, and found this location perfect for the places I like to hike.
Everything was as described and well maintained. Fresh flowers were a nice touch. I've already booked for next year and plan to become a regular visitor the second week of June.
This was a great home base during our visit to Acadia. Felt like a close proximity to the park and easy to come back to during the day. Had everything we needed in order to make meals. The hosts were very responsive and helpful during our visit!
We enjoyed our stay here so very much. The cottage was as pictured and so clean and well equipped. We bought some groceries and cooked for a few nights, and the kitchen had pots, pans, and all utensils needed for our stay. We did appreciate the A/C unit in the bedroom to keep it cool at night, and the ceiling fan helped circulate the cool air without any problems or feeling it was too hot. The couch was comfortable, and the screened porch was the perfect spot for morning coffee, or an evening cocktail while reviewing our day and making plans for the next. This is not in Bar Harbor, and it took us about 20 minutes to drive there, but we enjoyed the quiet side of the island much more and still had everything we needed. There were maps and activity pamphlets left for us to help decide what to do and where to go. The flowers on the windowsill were a sweet touch as well. If we come back to MDI, we will definitely book here again, or refer to our family and friends. What a gem!
Very comfortable cottage with everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. Charming decor, comfortable bed, lovely screened porch. Full kitchen made it easy to eat in but location was not far from anything we wanted to do in the National Park or in towns.
Marilee and Ken were amazing hosts! They were there for any question we had, every item we needed - not that we needed much because they truly had thought of everything!
The Juniper is a quaint and roomy little cottage.
My only negative take away is the small and very uncomfortable couch was super hard to relax on. Unfortunately itâs time has passed. (A little sectional with a chaise attached would be perfect in that space!)
Thank you for having us! We will absolutely be returning. Possibly this fall!
Cute little house close to everything and yet set apart so you have peace and privacy. House was very clean and had everything we needed for a great week.
Someone's cancellation was our luck. This cottage is perfect. It has everything you need. Very quiet. Best spot is on the porch to enjoy breakfast or read a book.
The cottage is great. It had everything we needed to feel comfortable and at home. My wife was amazed with the kitchen and bedroom accoutrements. It felt like a five-star hotel. Itâs in a great location. All the activities and attractions are no more than 20 minutes drive. Marilee was great! Very nice and helpful. We are thankful for our wonderful seven days at this cottage and absolutely recommend it for all who want visit Acadia.

Perfect spot for a stay in Maine
We enjoyed our stay on Desert Island and this cottage helped make the stay even more enjoyable. Close to Acadia and Bar Harbor. The owners handled everything and we truly enjoyed our stay. Was great to come back to this cottage and relax. MDI is a popular spot and if itâs Acadia or Bar Harbor you are always dealing with parking and tourist. It was so relaxing to come back and have a large parking area for our pickup and then settledown for the evening.
Juniper Cottage is comfortable and has great amenities located away from the Bar Harbor craziness. Close by Southwest Harbor has excellent stores and restaurants. We cooked several of our own meals. They were simple, but all the equipment we needed was there. The bed was comfortable and it was quiet at night. Deer visited in the AM and we heard Loons in the PM. Thank you for sharing your lovely cottage.
Ken is a retired art educator and I am a costume designer. We purchased this property from Chauncey and Ethel Somes in 1980 and continue their tradition (since 1960) of sharing this glorious island and our charming cottages with summer guests.
Staying in Somesville means that Acadia National Park is surrounding you in all directions, and our cottages for two provide you with artful, well-appointed accommodations for peaceful, interesting vacations. We have lovely grounds, with walking paths through the historic cemetery, along the mill brook from Somes Pond, down to the ocean.
Perhaps the biggest plus is the central location of our village. The three larger towns of the island, Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Southwest Harbor are equidistant from here, making island exploration so much more convenient. And it is a short walk from our property to where you can pick up the free Island Explorer shuttles if you don't feel like driving.
