Station de la Garde côtière historique sur Keweenaw Bay, à distance de marche de la plage!

Venez séjourner au "Powerhouse" dans la ville blanche historique, construite dans les années 1930 pour fournir de l’électricité au phare situé à quelques pas du mur de séparation. La centrale électrique a été convertie en résidence et se trouve sur une propriété isolée de 4 acres avec 2 autres maisons qui ne seront pas occupées pendant votre séjour.

Vous trouverez la magnifique plage de White City et une rampe de lancement gratuite pour les bateaux publics, à seulement 5 minutes à pied de la maison. Le phare d’entrée inférieure de la voie navigable de Keweenaw Waterway est l’un des principaux attraits de la maison. La ville blanche est la définition d'un environnement de détente avec des tonnes d'activités pour garder tout le monde occupé. Prenez une chaise sur le brise-lames et admirez la vue sur Keweenaw Bay (lac Supérieur) ou prenez un bâton de pêche. Déposez votre kayak ou votre canoë à la maison et prenez une pagaie dans les miles de backwaters au nord de la maison.

Vous pouvez également prendre la voiture pour une heure de trajet jusqu'à Copper Harbor, où vous trouverez de superbes vues et de petits magasins pour satisfaire vos besoins touristiques. Copper Harbor est connu dans le Midwest pour son vélo de montagne avec des vélos de location disponibles. What a cool place- we had a lovely stay watching the bald eagles and humming birds. Good fishing right off the dock, and the canoes were a huge perk. The house itself is beautiful, with classic rustic touches and great amenities. Loved the DVD collection. We’re already thinking about when we can get back here!

Best property I’ve stayed at

If you love the water it does not get any better than this property. We enjoyed the house, the old boardwalk, the beach and the fishing so much. We will definitely be back next year. My son and I caught giant smallmouth bass right off the dock. The fishing was so good it made it difficult to want to do anything else. I really enjoyed learning about the history of this place, very cool.

Fantastic property! The waterfront location with wharf and dock, walking distance to the beach and lighthouse, were just superb. The house was very clean and comfortable and the kitchen well-stocked. Kristin is super responsive and kind. I can not think of a thing I would change other than the mosquitos which are beyond anyone's control.

My family (including our dogs) had a lovely time staying here. Although I only got a single bite all week, it was very peaceful and the beach was a short walk away. The house was clean and had everything we could want for amenities. Overall it was an excellent experience.

Perfectly Peaceful

This rental is located in an absolutely beautiful area. Everything was provided for a quiet escape. The owners were very helpful and responded quickly to every question. We enjoyed exploring the beach and surrounding area as well as watching Bald Eagles and numerous other wildlife. We highly recommend this rental and this beautiful area of Michigan!

Great Place to Stay

Communication was excellent. Picture perfect place for a relaxing summer vacation. Fishing off the dock; quick, private walk to the beach and lighthouse. Fully stocked with everything you need for cooking and cleaning, you only need to provide the food. Single bathroom was not an issue for our family of 6, including 3 teenage girls.

Wonderful

We stayed with our family of 6. 2 adults and 4 kids ages 6-12. There was plenty of room for everyone. We absolutely loved the historic nature of the rental. It was so fun that our front sidewalk (pier) led straight to the lighthouse and beach down the way. Beautiful sunsets each night, this place felt like a home away from home.

Experiencing History

Very comfortable, cozy stay in a historical house. So fun to walk to the lighthouse and the beach. Our son was able to drive over from Houghton to visit in less than 40 minutes. We had a nice dinner at the restaurant in Dreamland. Our daughter and golden retriever enjoyed the little swimming area and the beach. We took the canoes out on Sunday afternoon and enjoyed exploring the little islands in the Portage- complete with shipwrecks.

Quiet and beautiful

Very cute house with water access for canoes or kayaks into a channel that quickly leads to Lake Superior. Well stocked with kitchen needs (cleaning supplies, pots/pans, plastic bags and foil). Short walk down the road or along the breaker wall to a sandy beach of Lake Superior. Everyone enjoyed the stay and wish we could have stayed longer. 20 - 30 minute drive away from nearest town but worth it.

Great set up for our dog

This property worked out so well for our dog which made it great for us. The beach was a short walk away so our dog could swim with us multiple times a day. We could not watch television programs but it worked out. We kept busy, watched a few DVDs and brought a play station. Very peaceful.

Laid back week in the Keweenaw

Loved our visit here. The powerhouse is a very cool VRBO where you can relax and spend some time at the public beach that is a short walk from the house or you can just sit on the front porch and watch all the boats coming in and out of the channel. We also spent our week exploring the Keweenaw Peninsula. Our kids loved splashing in the river at the Tobacco River Park and the white sand beach at Brunette park and the falls at Haven Falls. We spent an afternoon exploring the Delaware Mine and the old mining buildings above the mine. And we enjoyed nice meals at the Dreamland bar & grill (up the road from the powerhouse), at Caremlita's in Calumet, and at the Mariner in Copper Harbor.

Loved it!

This was our 3rd year staying at this property. We have stayed for a week each time. We love the location and the wonderful views! There is a place to fish off the breakwall, a shallow area for little kids swimming and the ability to walk from the property to the lighthouse. So much fun! The only negative was the owner has asked to stay at the property (in a separate house) every year for the last weekend we are there. Its been fine but def takes away the feeling of privacy. But overall a wonderful place to stay with beautiful views of boats going by and peaceful views of the water! Would def stay again!

Paradise.

My second time staying at the former Coast Guard Station. My first time was totally wonderful. It was everything I'd hoped for. The location could not be improved in any way and all the parts of the stay made it a success. My second time there was like coming home. The view, the water, the sky, the wildlife all brought smiles to my face each day I opened the door to look at the view. I just cannot explain to anyone considering a stay there how special the house is. In a nutshell - I wish it were mine so I could be there forever.

Great Stay in White City

This property is a gem! It was about 0.5 miles to the White City Beach, which was fabulous and never crowded! Several times we had the whole place to our selves!. The Powerhouse was well stocked with amenities. We were able to cook or grill out as needed. (a gas grill and charcoal grill were available) There was plenty of space to spread out and the full-size washer and dryer was a bonus. The was no internet or cable, but we didn't notice being unplugged for the week. :) Stargazing was amazing! This is a great place to relax and recharge! Thank you for a great stay.

Awesome Stay

Property was exactly as described. A little off the grid (that we desired) but within easy driving to anything we wanted or needed. Kristin's communication was great! Complete and accurate. Very helpful tips. Little things like being 30 minutes from grocery store helped us plan accordingly. We stopped on the way in and picked up what we needed for that evening and next morning. Followed recommendation on some of the places to dine and all were great experiences. Being right on the water, able to watch boats go up and down the waterway, walking distance to the beach (that the dogs absolutely loved) and the lighthouse really made it difficult to want to go out anywhere else. Accommodations were clean, organized, comfortable and everything we needed was there. Even had an opportunity to take the available canoe out for a little paddle around the bay. We had two separate visits from an Eagle one day, a third visit another day, saw an otter near the dock, and even got a little bit of experience with seeing the northern lights. If you like quiet, reasonable isolation away from the tourist, yet reasonably close to many attractions, this is the place!

Tranquility and relaxation.

We live off the beaten path and do not need to be entertained. This was perfect for us. A beautiful beach a short walk away and a large yard provided all the “entertainment” our family, including four grandchildren, needed. It was so nice, we didn’t want to leave to explore the surrounding area as we had planned. There are short soft cover books with fascinating history of the immediate area including Jacobsville and White City. The house was very well stocked with everything we needed. Even sharp knives and cutting boards. Kristin is a generous host who responded quickly to questions.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

My grandma grew up in Houghton and her father originally owned the property in the late 1800's but then it was sold in the 1930's to build housing for the coast guards, hence the 3 houses on the property. In the late 70's all coast guard housing was sold off, and my grandparents re-purchased the property and flipped the powerhouse that originally supplied electricity to the lighthouse into a house. The property just holds a lot of family history to us as well as sentimental value.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

Constant eagle viewing, hence why we keep the dead tree in the front because the eagles like to land there and enjoy their morning breakfast. The houses are set right on the break water for fantastic views of the sunrise, sunset and sometimes the Northern Lights. The beach and boat launch are within walking distance to our house, and our beach is the only one in the area that is very shallow which makes it nice to stand in the cold Superior waters on a hot day (or dive in, if you're brave).
