Throughout the day the tides ebb and flow revealing the beach just 150 yards away. Tate Hill Sands were according to Bram Stoker is where Dracula arrived, when a ship of deceased sailors crashed onto the shore and in the form of a dog Dracula fled the ships ruins and raced up the nearby 199 steps to the iconic gothic Whitby Abbey perched on the headland. From here he had panoramic views and could choose his next victims. Many guests love the dark stories that surround Whitby, from Dracula to the ghost walks, and the annual Goth Weekends draw thousands of visitors from around the world. For history lovers there is much to see and do, with museums including Captain Cookâs and the Lifeboatâs. Plus, along this heritage coastline you can find many fossils as well as the precious black jet, which is used to create beautiful unique jewellery here.
