Listed as a Historic Monument, Passage Choiseul is the longest covered passage in Paris. It was opened between 1825 and 1827 by the Mallet bank under the reign of Charles X. The plans were drawn up by the architect François Mazois.
The passage has remained one of the liveliest passages in Paris, due to its proximity to the Royal Theater of the Opéra Comique - current Salle Ventadour - and the Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens.
The passage also has a remarkable literary past: Alphonse Lemerre, the first publisher of the Parnassian poets indeed had his shop in the passage. Louis-Ferdinand Céline, lived there as a child from 1899 to 1907. He immortalized the passage in its decrepitude in 1936, under the name of "passage des Bérésinas", in his book "Mort à credit".
